Inazuma Eleven team to hold production in Tokyo January 23-31

This year’s 41st issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine is announcing on Wednesday that a “much-anticipated” stage play adaptation of Yūji Terajima’s Ace of Diamond (Daiya no A) manga has been green-lit. The same project staff that worked on the stage plays for Nintama Rantaro and Inazuma Eleven will put on this new theatrical production.

The production will run in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Kinokuniya Southern Theatre from January 23 to January 31 next year. More details will be announced in the near future.

The manga inspired a television anime that premiered in Japan last October, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan. The manga also inspired three upcoming original anime DVDs.

It is officially announced today that 38-year-old Shintaro Asanuma, who is currently voicing Yoichi Kuramochi in the ongoing TV anime adaptation, will write and direct the upcoming stage play adaptation of Yuji Terajima’s baseball-themed manga Daiya no A/Ace of Diamond.

While has been known as the voices for many anime characters including Kyo Sogoru in Zegapain, Crow Hogan in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, and the protagonist in The Tatami Galaxy, he had originally started his professional career as a stage writer/director before that. His recent famous directorial work is the first stage play adaptation of the popular PS2 Game Persona 4 in March 2012.

The Ace of Diamond stage play is produced by Eigeki (Super Musical Saint Seiya, Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion on Stage: Riot’s Eve, Hamatora The Stage -Crossing Time-), and is scheduled to be performed 12 times at the Kinokuniya Southern Theater in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district from January 23 to 31, 2015.

“Ace of Diamond” Stage Play Postponed without Notice to the Director

December 17, 2014 10:05pm CST
The co-director Kawajiri says, “I can’t work with the people who can do this.”

The official website for the upcoming stage play adaptation of Yuji Terajima’s baseball-themed manga Daiya no A/Ace of Diamond announced yesterday on December 17 that it is postponed for the time being due to various reasons.

The stage play is produced by Eigeki (Super Musical Saint Seiya, Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion on Stage: Riot’s Eve, Hamatora The Stage -Crossing Time-), and was originally scheduled to be performed 12 times at the Kinokuniya Southern Theater in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district from January 23 to 31, 2015. But the advance sales of the tickets in November was already cancelled, it suggested some kind of trouble on the production side.

Soon after, the co-director of the stage, Keita Kawajiri voiced complaints on his Twitter account that he had not received any contact from the production company for more than one month, and he learned the news about the postponement from the internet. He angrily conveyed his disappointment, “Unless they change their management structure, there is no possibility for me to direct the stage anymore. Though I have had no trouble with them so far, I can’t work with the people who can do this without any contact. It is a shame.”

The production company later apologized to him, explaining that they had thought co-director/writer Shintaro Asanuma already made contact with him about it. Kawajiri simply answered, “Asanuma-san is not a liaison. Making contact with me is what the production company should do.”

Future announcements will be made on the TV anime site
January 21, 2015 4:20am CST

After the postponement due to “various reasons” revealed last month, it is confirmed that the official website for the stage play adaptation of Yuji Terajima’s baseball-themed manga Daiya no A/Ace of Diamond is closed. Still no explanation, the website says, “We are deeply sorry for the fans who were waiting for our stage expectantly.”

The stage play was produced by Eigeki (Super Musical Saint Seiya, Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion on Stage: Riot’s Eve, Hamatora The Stage -Crossing Time-), and was originally scheduled to be performed 12 times at the Kinokuniya Southern Theater in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district from January 23 to 31, 2015.

As reported, the announcement of the postponement was made without any notices to the co-director of the stage, Keita Kawajiri, and he voiced complaints on his Twitter account. He angrily conveyed his disappointment, “Unless they change their management structure, there is no possibility for me to direct the stage anymore.” In the last message on the website, the production committee of the play said that all future announcements will be made on the ongoing TV anime’s official site.
