Bodacious Space Pirates / Mōretsu Pirates

OTOH, I took to Luci immediately. I have a shaky first impression of Shelly’s Ririka, but I started warming up to her by the end of the episode. IMHO, Luci nailed the “WHAAATTT?!?!” perfectly! YMMV and, of course, that’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I think your post needs more acronyms Newshawk.

Well I took the plunge and bought this since it’s currently a Sentai sale. I can’t wait to get this. I saw the first and second episode when they were actually airing (iirc) on this site, and enjoyed them. So it’s been a long time coming but I’ll finally get to see the thing, dubbed too. I enjoyed what I saw.

I’ve had both collections for a while now. I pre-ordered both of them (funny enough, the sale price is the same price I paid when I pre-ordered them).

I haven’t watched much, but the few episodes I did watch were good.

B)

Checked out the first episode on VOD. I saw it before, but was nice to hear the dub. The first episode got me so pumped I wish my blu-ray was here already, woulda watched the thing right then and there. Was in the mood for this type of show.

Anyway I totally dig the black hair chick. She seems really cool. And it’s nice to see a newcomer, Caitlynn French playing her. She seems like a major character, so Kudos to Seraphim Digital. I like her so far, but WAY too early to tell, way to few lines to really judge her. But if she does a good job perhaps she can be another rising star like Emily Neves? People have complained about Shannon Emerick in the dub. She’s a good actor she’s shown that in Project Blue Earth SOS and The Book of Bantorra (her best role by far, loved her here). But she’s not perfect, I wasn’t a fan of her in Blue Drop iirc (which otherwise had a top notch dub). So it wouldn’t be surprising if she wasn’t up to par with the rest of the cast. Who else but Luci Christian could play the lead though? That’s just smart casting. Obvious, but smart nonetheless. The weakest in the dub was Shelley Calene-Black, who had like two awkward lines. But otherwise totally digging the dub. Let’s see where it goes.

As for the show it self…I love how the series is taking it’s time yet. We don’t even get any real shots of space. A less refined series we’d be in space already, Marika would be a captain, and they’d be pirating already. Instead it;s wisely building it’s world and introducing us to its cast of characters. Let’s hope it just doesn’t fall on its face now. It’s slow, but not boring at all. I remember the second episode is more of the first, so won’t be new stuff for me until I see episode 3.

^This. (In all honesty, I watched the first episode just to hear her say it.)

Although, the english Narrator seems off to me. Japanese VA kina sounds like he could be a Pirate himself (possibly even Marika’s father from beyond the grave  ).

Only my personal opinion though.

Gonna try to get this one in the future. (If I can save up some money :frowning: )

I just watched episode 1 I can’t wait for my Blu-ray order to ship, THAT I MADE ON MARCH 1ST!

Emerick seems like she’s reasonable enough here.

Watched Ep 2 last night. I’m enjoying this dub. Haven’t heard a voice that takes me out of the story yet.

Cut n’ paste is my friend.

Inquiring minds want to know?

Is this a re-adaption of the TV series?
A continuation of the TV series?
A completely new story set in the same universe?
Or a totally reimagining of it, ala Escaflowne The Movie or Eureka The Movie?

As for the character design, they seem to be more inline with the lite novel asthethics but with the TV series changes.

Dunno about that: I was inclined to agree, but I just can’t get used to Carli Mosier as the doctor. Her voice doesn’t fit the “archetype” of the character. While it is not exactly a scientific study, I watched this with some of my anime “crew” whom hadn’t seen this in Japanese and they also felt that her voice didn’t jibe with the character. IMO her speech is a bit awkward in flow.

BTW is the lip sync actually off or is the occasional lack of sync that I’m seeing only in the TAN stream and not the BD?

I don’t think I got far enough into the show yet where the doctor is even in the show.

She’s in the first episode.

I am going to get both parts of Bodacious Space Pirates on Blu-ray on Monday. :woohoo:

She’s the one with the blue hair and lipstick.

The high definition on the Blu-ray, I find very stunning.

I was having a hard time trying to figure out who Jenny Dolittle VA was also voice of, I knew I heard Shannon EMERICK voice before so I looked it up. The young Yuichi from Kanon, that’s what I hear now that I looked.

Charlotte from Infinite Stratos and Mythical Detective Loki (himself) are two more obvious roles.
