Michelle Rojas, Josh Grelle, Nick Haley, Alexis Tipton, Barrett Nash star in dub
So many unknowns and āunderknownsā. Is Funimation responding to the criticism about casting āthe usual suspectsā ad infinitum? Michelle Rojasā¦not too sure about her, but she strikes me as another actress who got into the industry through a back door. This Bryn Apprill seems to be breaking out.
Joel McDonald is pretty solid though, IME. His actions with We Without Wings earned him some ācredā IMO. This doesnāt sound all that different from War on Geminar, which he nailed.
Cāmon Funi, this is anime weāre talking about here. Those traits are exactly what Iād expect in a hero. When a hero in anime isnāt a slight variation of the Shinji/Luke Skywalker archetype then it becomes unexpected.
Man, Iām not liking that dub clip at all.
I think Iām falling into that groove where you donāt mind the language you watch a show initially in and the other language never seems to measure up to your previous experience with the show.
I thought that this was a trailer? I canāt say that I was really āfeelingā that dub from what we heard but Iām trying to ākeep the faithā as I am unable to point to a single Funimation dub trailer that was good and was promoting a show that actually had a good dub.
I took a ādub clipā to be an unedited, āstraightā segment of a dub, like what we got for Titan.
Though now that I think about it, since Iāve seen a certain Sentai show that is mighty similar in premise I donāt feel all that motivated to watch this one.
Technically, since they call it a ātrailerā it would be just that.
I, myself, call anything that presents the dub as the actual dub you will hear, a ādub clipā.
That being said, in this clipā¦
Josh Grelle just sounds way to old for Shido
Alexis Tipton sounds off to me for Kurumi (it will also depend on how she sounds in the later episodes)
Michelle Rojas as Tohka doesnāt sound too off, but her bit at the very beginning was super short, so it doesnāt show the emotional range that Tohka goes through.
Barrett Nash as Reine also sounds a bit off to me.
All in all, this clip definitely doesnāt satisfy me as far as the dub goes.
Finally got around to photoshopping the pics and fixing the first post.
That being saidā¦
BRING ON THE SECOND SEASON!
Man I canāt wait for it.
Itās a shame that Kadokawa has mostly gone to the 10 episode season model, I would have really liked a 12 episode season for S2.

Not sure I like the animation studio switch as far as the animation goes, but it does kinda keep the feel of the first season, which is nice.
