Funimation Forum Post
We have an answer for you guys and really appreciate your patience.
We do not have the Date A Live II director’s cut, which actually adds runtime to the release. This is different from how most Japanese home video (and our releases) work. In most (not all) cases, the runtime is mostly the same, but just certain parts are redrawn.
Essentially there are three versions:
- Broadcast version <— this is what we simulcast and what was on Japanese TV
- Uncut version <— this is our release. We know that it has redrawn scenes that weren’t in the broadcast version. It features new, uncut footage that differs from the original simulcast version. It is not based on the broadcast materials.
- Director’s Cut <—this was Japan’s special longer version for their home video

There is definitely enough material for a new Anime Season, as they have the Natsume and Origami arcs to adapt.
I wouldn’t mind them going to a better Animation Studio though, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they Stick with Production IMS. The Date A Time also fits in with the Origami arc as it involves time travel…

Teaser visual, theme song artists also revealed
and JC Staff, + sweet ARMS returning for the OP, I’m psyched, since it looks like we’re getting the Natsumi and Origami arcs.
Edit:I’d say the odds of Funimation getting this is about 50%, I could see someone else licensing S3 and license S1-2 and the movie, just like what happened with Negima / UQ Holder. If that were to happen Just getting the Movie, S3 and the Extended version of S2 (Which Funimation didn’t release) would be a licensing coup d’etat.

While the key visual was a bit disappointing, the preview has restored a bit of hope.

Yay! I don’t have to resub to Funimation until the rest of Yamato 2202 comes out!
Territories: TBD
I wouldn’t count on not needing the Funimation sub just yet.
