Sony to End Blu-ray Disc Media Production

The media company will also end production of recordable mini discs, MD data discs, and mini DV cassettes.

It is BD-R and BD-RW. Blu-ray, UHD, and BD-ROM are still going to be produced. A lot of places seem to not do research anymore before they post something.

Merger to take effect on June 1

That’s a stupidly obtuse headline. It should read Anime Studios Production IG and Signal.MD to merge Under the Production IG Banner Then explain how Signal.MD is being dissolved in the article.

New Title: Nobody’s Boy Remi - and a lot more news!

Nobody’s Boy Remi, Osamu Dezaki’s masterpiece, and the only TV series in anime history to be animated in (optional) 3-D is getting its first Blu-ray release! Plus, we’re doing a livestream…

Our newest title – which has never gotten a proper release in the US, got leaked a few weeks ago. However, we’re still very proud of it, and the details are pretty special.

Remi is a very unique show. Not only is it from the legendary team of director Osamu Dezaki and Character Designer/Animation Director Akio Sugino (who, together, worked on Tomorrow’s Joe, Aim for the Ace, Rose of Versailles, Space Adventure Cobra, and many more)… but it’s the first and only 3-D anime series ever made.

How was this possible in 1977? It didn’t use any of the technology we currently use for 3-D, but rather a technique called the pulfrich effect , which is an optical illusion of depth created by lateral movement. The end result is near constant motion of layered backgrounds and effects: 51 episodes of intense surreal imagery. (The 3-D effect is completely optional – just take off the glasses.)

Did I mention that it’s one of the most emotionally intense TV series ever made? It is SEARING to watch. You’ll never forget it.

Nobody’s Boy Remi. 51 episodes. 4 Blu-rays. English subtitles, French dub and Japanese original. Free 3-D glasses. Out on May 11. Pre-order here and get an exclusive slipcover.

We have actually been working on a lot of other licenses. And we’re ready to announce (most of) our 2025 lineup! Join us on February 10 on YouTube for a livestream!

Also, new in the store, we’ve managed to grab the very last few copies of the Time of EVE: Official Fan Book and the Time of EVE: Another Act light novel!

The fan book includes original design sketches, a scene-by-scene breakdown of each arc with director Yasuhiro Yoshiura, interviews with the crew, and various essays. The light novel expands on the original anime with new insights into the characters, a new character, and an alternate ending. We only have around 200 of each, and once they’re gone, they’re gone forever. Grab em in the store now!

Bubblegum Crisis: Perfect Collection is just finishing up replication and should be ready to ship in another week or so.

Thanks so much for all of your support, and see you for all our announcements on February 10!
