Tow Ubukata is one of Japan’s premier science fiction novelists and screenwriters, known for his work on Mardock Scramble, Le Chevalier D’Eon, Fafner, the new Ghost in the Shell Arise prequel and he collaborated on the sequel series to one of the biggest sci-fi hits in recent years, Psycho-Pass. He’s also handling script duties on Production I.G’s new Ghost in the Shell film, which releases in theaters in Japan this summer. We had the opportunity to interview him about his vaunted body of work and learn a little bit more about his inspirations.

Aya Kanno is the successful mangaka behind the gender stereotype-skewering hit Otomen, which concluded its run a few years ago. She’s back now with Requiem of the Rose King, a big shojo-flavored melting pot that mashes up several parts of Shakespeare’s Henry the Sixth with Richard the Third; its first volume hit American shelves this past April. We had the chance to ask her a few questions during her appearance at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival this month.
