Ep. 23

Not sure I like where this is going.

spoiler

I’m a sucker for “happy endings” and I was really hoping for one here.
I really wanted to see the Koko/Banri pair right up to the end.

Banri catches up to Kaga and tries to talk her out of resigning from the festival club. Once again, Kaga thinks she’s doing this for Banri. Now that he knows Kaga saw him on film, Banri admits to getting some of his memories back. However, those old memories are replacing his current memories. He’s certain that the old Banri will be back soon and the Banri that he is now will disappear. He knows that this was the real reason Kaga broke up with him. Kaga admits that she doesn’t think she can handle it.

Banri says that he still loves her and that there is no need to cut herself off from their friends, or quit the club. Banri tells Kaga that she should keep being herself. Banri formally thanks her, and a sniffling Kaga decides not to quit the festival club. She tells him that they have officially broken up now, but will be friends again. Crying now, Kaga tells Banri that as long as he doesn’t forget her, she will never leave him. Banri makes this promise with her.

On the way back, they meet Linda. She’s been searching for Yana, who also ran off. Linda gives Kaga a few choice words as well, and won’t let her run away just because things aren’t going the way she wants them to. Linda also tells Kaga not to underestimate her. Once back at the clubroom, “RoboGirl” is welcomed back with open arms. With things resolved, it’s time again to prepare for the school festival.

Banri later goes to Yana’s apartment, but there is no answer and Banri leaves him a note. The next morning, the note is on Banri’s door. It looks like Yana wants nothing to do with Banri anymore. Yana also stops going to school and has pretty much disappeared. It’s only a couple of days before the festival and Banri is still dealing with his past memories.

One day, Kaga greets Banri, but he just stares at her blankly. She backs up in surprise and bumps into 2D-kun. He asks her what’s wrong, but she starts to cry and runs off. He turns to Banri to ask about Kaga, but Banri says that he didn’t even notice she was there. 2D-kun tells Banri that he’s acting weird and is met with another blank look. While Kaga cries in the ladies room, 2D-kun is grilling Oka for explanations, but she isn’t sure how much to tell him.

One day before the festival, 2D-ku gets Oka, Banri, and Kaga together and suggests a day out – and he won’t take no for an answer! 2D-kun also wants everyone together to talk things out. He’s really worried about their little group falling apart. Banri finally agrees, but isn’t sure Yana will show up. Kaga promises to take care of him. Banri also invites Linda, but she declines. However, she’s happy that Banri is going to talk to everyone and tell them what’s going on.

As Banri waves goodbye to Linda, he suddenly wonders why he’s there. Who is he waiting for? He doesn’t even know where he is. Kaga taps him on the shoulder, and she has Yana with her. Yana apologizes to Banri for his recent behavior. But Banri wonders who these people are. He backs up, saying that he doesn’t know them, and yells for Linda as he runs away from them. He gets really confused as he runs and when he stops, he ends up screaming.

Linda finds him and holds him to calm him down. Crying, Banri tells her that he doesn’t know this place and wants to go home. Linda wants to take him back to his place and as the taxi passes the group, he sees that Kaga is crying. That seems to snap Banri out of it and he tells the driver to stop, but it isn’t a place that the cab can stop at. Banri gets hysterical again and Linda tries to calm him down again. He tells Linda that he saw Kaga crying, but he suddenly forgets again.

Banri calls home, and says that he’s thinking of going to the hospital. He tells him mom that he’s getting his memories back, but his current ones seem to be disappearing. He says that he wants to go home. Banri invites his mother to the school festival the next day instead. When Banri wakes up, he finds Nana in his bed! Linda walks in and Banri confesses that he just slept with Nana. That wins him a punch form Nana. LOL He asks why she was in his bed. There is a perfectly logical explanation, but it’s still funny.

It’s time for the festival and Banri seems fine. He’s even written notes to himself so he remembers things. A quick pep talk from Koshiro and the club is ready to perform. And Yana brings them a huge surprise! Banri takes to opportunity to apologize to Yana and Yana tells him that Kaga has filled him in. Yana understands now what is happening to Banri. Yana cries as he tells Banri that he’ll always be there for him. With live music backing them up now, the club performs its Awa dance to perfection. Right afterwards, Banri reverts back to his old self and forgets all of his present memories. I’m still worried how he will end up. Will he really go home and leave everything of his current life behind?

Episode 24 –

spoiler

Banri walks over to his mother and tells her that he’s back. Sometime later. Kaga is watching Oka’s film and sees Banri saying he had just been dumped. When the film is over, 2D-kun asks where Banri is and Yana tells him that Linda and Banri’s mom took him home, and were going to take him to a hospital. They all can’t believe that Banri won’t remember them anymore. Yana hands Kaga the mirror and tells her that Banri forgot to take it. Kaga opens it and sees the cracked glass. She cries, and the others join her.

Banri is home and thinks his life has returned to normal. He was surprised to find himself at a university in Tokyo, but he’s back where he belongs now. He went for a run and ends up on the bridge. When he pulls his hand out of his pocket, the ring falls out and bounces over the side. Banri wonders what it was, as he looks down into the water. He took a leave from school, but figures he may end up dropping out.

Banri reads over the notes he had once written to himself, but can’t remember any of it. He’s surprised that he had a girlfriend and wonders what she looked like. But he isn’t too concerned since he can’t remember that either. Banri finds his email address and checks it out. There is a message dated from the day before that was supposedly from him to Kaga. That puzzles him. The email is a plea for Kaga to reach out to him, but it upsets Banri, because he never wrote it. And in the history, there are many more emails to Kaga that Banri never sent. Banri sends a message and tells his impersonator to stop sending out emails. The impersonator sends a message back and tells Banri that he won’t stop since Banri broke his promise first.

Around Christmas, school breaks, and Linda comes home to visit. She spends a lot of time with Banri too. Banri finds that his feelings never changed towards her, and he doesn’t think Linda has changed either. He wonders what happened between them while his memories were gone, and Linda won’t tell him. Banri feels that he’s still waiting on the bridge for her answer. But Linda seems to be avoiding the subject.

When the doorbell rings and Banri answers it, Kaga is on his doorstep, but he has no idea who she is. Kaga tells Banri that she’s come to return the DVD that she borrowed from him. Banri suddenly thinks he knows her, but thinks that she’s Oka. That must have killed Kaga. It was probably very hard for her to visit him in the first place. She just smiles when he calls her Oka. Banri calls for Linda to come out and see Oka. But she sees that it’s really Kaga and gasps. Banri wonders at her reaction, but Kaga just smiles and greets Linda. Linda isn’t sure what to say and Kaga tells her that she’s fine with things and only came to return Banri’s DVD.

Linda invites Kaga into the house, but she refuses. She tells them that she’s glad she came, and she can see that Banri is doing well. Kaga gives Banri the bag and tells him that it’s in his hands now. When Banri looks in the bag, the mirror is in there too, but Banri pulls it out and gives it to Kaga, thinking she forgot it was in the bag. As Kaga takes it, Banri sees writing on the back of the case and the word “remember”. Kaga asks about the bridge and wants to know if she can take it to “get home”, but I get the feeling she’s trying to give Banri a message. Banri gives her directions and Kaga takes her leave. As she says goodbye, she tells Banri that she got to see his face again.

After she leaves, I think Linda is about to tell Banri that it was really Kaga, but Banri thinks of something and runs back to his room. Going through the things he brought home, he finds a matching mirror. There isn’t anything written on the back of this one, but he knows that it isn’t his. Linda watches as he stares into the mirror. He gets a sudden vision of the mirror cracking and memories of Kaga flow into his mind. He runs from the house and Linda asks where he’s going. All he says is “after her”, and Linda just stares. Banri is still wearing his house shoes and trips, falling flat on his face. Linda calls to him from behind. She’s caught up to him and has his sneakers. He puts them on and takes off, while Linda calls out encouragement.

Banri arrives at the bridge and meets his past selves. They fade out as he runs past them, but spirit Banri confronts him head on and demands to know why Banri can see him. Banri wants to know why he’s wet, but spirit Banri just yells at him and tells him that he’s always been with him. As spirit Banri continues to yell at Banri, he begins to fade as well. But it isn’t what he wants. Banri talks to him calmly and tells him that they all go to the same place eventually. He says that the “present becomes the past”. Spirit Banri says that he’s leaving and perhaps they will meet again at the very end.

Spirit Banri turns and begins to walk away, but Linda calls out for Banri. She is at the bridge as well, and runs past Banri to throw herself into spirit Banri’s arms. She can see him too! Linda tells spirit Banri that the answer is “yes”! She tells him that she loves him – all of him. Spirit Banri is very happy now and he’s glad he waited all this time. He walks back to Banri and, telling him that he dropped something, hands him the ring. When he fades away, Banri sees Kaga on the bridge and laughs.

Linda tells Banri again that her answer is yes. And that includes a yes to Banri and Kaga! Saying that she’s left something undone, Linda runs off. Banri screams out for Kaga and when she turns around, Banri pulls her into his arms and hugs her tightly. Kaga begins to cry as she confirms that Banri didn’t forget her after all. Banri admits that it was a close call and Kaga asks if he remembers the promise. He does remember. Banri tell her that if he didn’t forget her, they would be together forever. Kaga tells him that the promise can never be broken and Banri says that he hopes not. Kaga kisses him and her tears are happy one now.

Kaga tells Banri that she loves him, and he laughs again. As she hugs him, Kaga says some very sweet things and admits her mistake of setting him free. Kaga tells Banri that she wants to spend her life with him and he tells her that his heart will always be with her. Banri invites her back to his house, but before they go, he gives Kaga the ring. She gladly accepts it, saying that it’s hers. As they walk back, hand in hand, Banri finds out that it was 2D-kun that had sent Kaga the emails. It was a ploy to try to get Banri to return to Tokyo. I wish the light was brighter in 2D-kun’s room! I can see that Miss Monochrome makes another appearance as a poster, but I can really see anything else. But seeing him sitting at the computer that way is also vaguely familiar. LOL

Kaga only found out that it was 2D-kun recently and almost killed the guy! LOL Yana and Oka had to hold them apart. They had a huge argument, but that may have been what sent Kaga to visit Banri. The DVD that Kaga gave Banri was one that Oka made of him. Banri and Kaga watch it together. Well, kind of. Kaga sleeps through it, but Banri wakes her up and thanks her. As she rubs her sleepy eyes, I can see she’s wearing the ring too. So, in the end Banri returns to school and goes back to his new old life. It looks like Linda and Yana may end up together too. I guess that takes Oka out of the picture. Perhaps she will end up with 2D-kun. Another good anime with a good story and a happy ending! For myself, I was just a little disappointed that Banri ended up with Kaga instead of Linda. But I suppose she did get the Banri she was supposed to get in the end, and was able to free herself of the past and the guilt. So, it worked out.

It seems the BD CC is out of print for this series too.

Maybe that means Golden Time may be on the potential Dub rerelease list

I know it’s requested quite a bit .

Really hoping they go back for a few shows that did not get one . Of course top of my wish list is Waiting in the Summer .

Complete Collection

Getting lost wasn’t how Tada Banri wanted to start his first day of law school, but making a friend of fellow student Mitsuo along the way sort of made up for it until Mitsuo’s childhood friend and arranged future bride Kaga Koko appears and slaps Mitsuo with a bouquet of roses! Awkward. It’s even more awkward to learn that Koko’s now a fellow law student as well. However, “Awkward” is practically Banri’s middle name, as he’s suffering from a form of amnesia that’s erased most of his memory since high school and he’s becoming used to running into uncomfortable situations caused by actions he doesn’t remember. Join one of the most star-crossed group of friends ever as they attempt to make sense of life, love and the legal system in GOLDEN TIME!
