Iâve had the opportunity to watch this for weeks now, thanks to EVS, and after this clip, Iâm glad that I havenât taken it. Did the Japanese force dialogue changes? I ask because the âpunâ about the âpackageâ sounds like the typical lackluster Japanese attempt at that sort of humor.
Marchiâs dialogue lacks zazz, I donât know whatâs going on. Her lines have the same lack of zazz that the dialogue (which she wrote) in B Gata H Kei had. Iâm not sure whatâs going on with that. Luckily Monica Rial is awesome.
What isnât awesome is that I didnât laugh during this clip, or any clip Iâve seen. This is like Funimationâs inferior version of Super Milk Chan.
Iâm not sure what salad dressing I would describe this show as being, but I donât agree with your assessment of ranch B)
I was honestly disappointed in the dub. Funimation is pretty good at creating raunchy dubs for shows which were raunchy originally, like Desert Punk, but their dub of this fell way short of that mark IMO. As Chris Ayres says, blame the director. Maybe Clinkenbeard will become a better director in time? I do hope so as she is directing quite a lot these daysâŚ
The only thing I complained about was the deletion of the iconic/Zombieland homage line âDouble tap, baby!â, which they corrected.
As for P&SwG, I think I may still be too p***ed off at Funi to care about it. I saw a preview at Tokyo in Tulsa and I was underwhelmed-but then, maybe it was also the âconvention managerâ drone they had showing it.
My only complaints about Foster dubs are when his genius has to be restrained to make a âseriousâ (read: lamer) dub, namely Angel Beats. I think that there was plenty of room for more Fosterization in HSotD, but for reasons that I would like to forget, there isnât.
Strangely enough, Funimationâs PR crew are pretty weak public speakers. Adam Sheehan ainât no Demosthenes, thatâs for sure. They could improve by hiring Bob Napton of Bandai fame. Or they could have the directors and actors do the promoting for them; Chris Bevins and Josh Grelle were much better promoters than funiâs dedicated PR crew when they were promoting Princess Jellyfish this past winter.
I donât know what happened but Jamie Marchi seems to have taken a nose-dive in quality, especially as a script writer. I thought her older stuff, and even her bit in Spice and Wolf, was pretty good, but this newer stuff doesnât measure up, with her performance in this being the new low in the decline.
I thought the show was terrible in Japanese, but this dub could have done so much more. The more I think on it, the more I get back to Chris Ayresâ âcatchphraseâ of âblame the directorâ. Ian Sinclair delivers a performance that is worlds better in the contemporary dub of Shiki, Marchi has been awesome elsewhere as an actor, Monica Rialâs awesomeness didnât seem fully utilizedâŚall of which brings my blame back to Colleen.
Out of all the actors they had to make regular directors, why her?
Gotcha. I did not mean the voices sounded the same. The over dramatic voice acting is due to match with PPG. It possible VA for Japanese PSG matched with Japanese version of PPG. It might have been lost in translation when move to PSG to sound more like the American PPG.
I do think Stocking is trying to sound like Buttercup, agree not a good job if that is what they were going for.
MmmâŚyeah, think Iâm gonna wait for the reviews on this since I keep hearing/reading that the JP BDs just arenât good; and in the slught chace Funi does their own mastering, they still wonât be on my priority list.
