S23/Sentai Filmworks/Switchblade Pictures/Maiden Japan , etc PR, News, And Announcements - 2012/2014

These combo packs don’t seem to take up significantly more space, at least not when they’re either 12 episode shows or a “part one part 2” deal, as so many of them seem to be. I assume that an anime classics/save release of a 24 episode show would be bulky as a combo pack (except for the bungled black lagoon release, which doesn’t count, I don’t believe that I have one to compare) but I seem to recall you mentioning here that those aren’t an issue for you. I guess the save of Shiki could be one to examine but that’s not a series that I’ll be saving.

While it isn’t so much of a problem with anime viewing, as my anime clique is now standardized with bluray players, the lack of combo packs does annoy me a bit with Hollywood movies. I’d rather a DVD then the utterly useless “ultraviolet” digital copy they bundle so often.

5 dollar DVD? That’s a bargain’s bargain, if we’re talking about modern anime DVDs.

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES “LOVE LAB”

HOUSTON, April 15, 2014 – A new kind of class is in session, and the matters of love are on the agenda in Sentai Filmworks’ latest acquisition, Love Lab. From original creator Ruri Miyahara, this heartwarming junior high school comedy series is directed by Masahiko Ohta (Minami-ke, Brighter than the Dawning Blue) with series composition by Takashi Aoshima (Mitsudomoe, Yuruyuri – Happy go Lily), music by Yasuhiro Misawa (Kokoro Connect, La storia della Arcana Famiglia), and animation production by Dogakobo (Engaged to the Unidentified, Majestic Prince).

Perhaps it was from the shock of discovering her school’s most respected girl kissing a life-size huggie doll, but in those first awkward moments Riko Kurahashi said something she wishes she hadn’t. Because not only did student council president Natsuo Maki completely swallow Riko’s glib fib about being “popular with the boys,” she drafted Riko as her aide and advisor in love and romance! That would have been bad enough if Natsuo only wanted advice, but Fujisaki Girls Academy’s most brilliant student is also the most obsessive, and simply talking about the opposite sex isn’t sufficient. No, Natsuo postulates hypothetical scenarios and “researches” them in her secret Love Lab! And since interaction with boys is banned at Fujisaki, guess who has to help act those fantasies out? And as other girls join the Love Lab, Riko’s role as the group’s love-master becomes even worse! Because she ISN’T one! Most boys don’t even LIKE her, but how can she admit that without destroying the friendships she now cherishes? Exposure looms and each new “experiment” brings Riko one step closer to total disaster as Love and Deception combine into the ultimate explosive mixture in the LOVE LAB!

Love Lab will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES “KAMIGAMI NO ASOBI”

HOUSTON, April 16, 2014 – A young girl is given the herculean task of strengthening the bonds between humans and gods by Zeus himself in Sentai Filmworks’ latest acquisition, Kamigami no Asobi. This supernatural romance series is directed by Tomoyuki Kawamura (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, Good Luck Girl!) with series composition by Tomoko Kanparu (Kimi ni Todoke – From Me to You, NANA), character design by Minako Shiba (Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee, Black Butler) and animation production by Brains Base (One Week Friends, Penguindrum).

The question of who weaves our destiny has always been shrouded in mystery. However, in a twist of fate, Yui Kusanagi discovers a mighty and mysterious sword that transports her to another world. There, this ordinary high school girl finds herself face-to-face with the mighty Greek god Zeus. As her fortune would have it, The God of Thunder has an unusual request: remain in the dimension he has created and attend a school of legendary proportions. When he’s not busy ruling the universe, Zeus acts as headmaster and dean for a school of young, somewhat misguided gods. The bond between humans and gods has weakened, and it is now up to Yui to teach the gods about love and what it means to be human. Will the dice of fortune fall in her favor? Or will the pressure of being a modern-day Venus be too much to handle? Only time will tell what happens as her fate unfolds before her. Whatever the outcome, bring on the bishounen as Yui tries to reveal who her true destiny is tied to in KAMIGAMI NO ASOBI!

SENTAI FILMWORKS LICENSES “THE COMIC ARTIST AND HIS ASSISTANTS”

HOUSTON, April 17, 2014 – In this office the assistants hold the whip, and nothing will keep them from meeting their deadlines in Sentai Filmworks’ latest acquisition, The Comic Artist and His Assistants. This slice of life comedy series is directed by Takeshi Furuta (Tiger & Bunny, Place to Place) with series composition by Aki Itami (Flowers of Evil, Fruits Basket), character design by Hitomi Tsuruta (Gintama, Cyberteam in Akihabara) and animation production by ZEXCS (Say, “I Love You”, Chu-Bra!!).

The life of an artist can be hard: Long, laborious hours working in a studio with only your thoughts and assistants to keep you company. In the case of overworked mangaka Aito Yuuki his attempts to merge the two are so far unsuccessful. With so many lovely ladies around, Aito’s stream of consciousness tends to quickly get off the rails and take a turn for the perverse. His priorities are askew and subjecting his assistants to his fantasies has taken precedent over work. Despite Aito’s blatant abuse of power, his beautiful, talented assistants are willing to play along if it means that their work will be successful. It’s all for the sake of the manga, right? At least, that’s what they tell themselves until Aito’s gets a little grabby. Thankfully, editor Mihari is there to keep him in line, from threatening to fire him to physical punishment. Will Aito’s abuse of power result in romance or rough treatment? Find out in this comedy slice of life - The Comic Artist and His Assistants!

The Comic Artist and His Assistants will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

HOUSTON, May 20, 2014 – Grab your drumsticks, tuners and your trusty Giita and discover how the band got together in Sentai Filmworks’ latest acquisition, K-ON! Season 1. From original creator Kakifly, this musical slice of life comedy is directed by Naoko Yamada (Tamako Market, CLANNAD: After Story) with chief animation direction by Yukiko Horiguchi (Lucky Star, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya), sound direction by Yota Tsuruoka (Beyond the Boundary, The Big O), and animation production by Kyoto Animation (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Tamako Love Story).

Being late on the first day is exactly what you’d expect from Yui Hirasawa in her freshman year at Sakuragoaka Girl’s High School. The number of clubs fighting over her to join up is decidedly unexpected, and Yui has no clue which club to join: she’s not very athletic and knows next to nothing about the liberal arts, but she’s determined to do SOMETHING this year. As luck would have it she discovers a flyer for the Light Music Club, and what she thinks will be a carefree ride down easy street suddenly gets turned up to 11 when she finds out that in order to join, she needs to actually learn to play an instrument! With the energetic drummer Ritsu, extra shy bassist Mio, and piano prodigy Tsumugi, it’ll be easy to bring her skills up to speed before the Light Music Club gets the axe, but it may take a few licks to get these four new friends in sync and ready to rock! In this club the cakes, teas and high keys will make or break the band as Yui and her new friends play to their own beat in K-ON! SEASON 1!

So the HSotD LE contains only the episodes that can already be bought? As someone who has only purchased the ova that has potential.

I don’t know if a dub is enough to entice me into going back through the brutality of Sunday without God. That show had so much promise but it squandered its talents. I believe that I’d enjoy outbreak company with a dub. I’m something of a tabula rasa when it comes to this maid sama show.

…I’ve never understood the “holiday season” euphemism: which season doesn’t have a holiday?

Maid-sama! and Outbreak Company seem like two shows I would buy.

If there’s a show that deserves to do the Najica route, it’s HotD: a pair or two of black lace panties with the bloody handprint “strategically” placed B) . Since I have both the TV and OVA…and the soundtrack, I’ll probably pass on this :frowning: .

Somebody please let the ADR know that they need to cast whoever plays Hajime in Gatchaman Crowds as Minori so they can keep the inside joke of Ep. 10 intact. Please and Thank You.

(Since Listen to me Girls, I’m your Father and The Severing Crime Edge were released sub only, this is the only role that needs to be cast this way.)

If the Chunibyo LE has until the end of the year to come out, perhaps it ought to be delayed until the second season can be bundled with it…

Considering the recent TBS BD hold ups on the past few solicitations, I wouldn’t expect that to ever happen.
That would probably push the release to another year or more.
Since the 3rd JP DVD/BD just got released on 5/21 which should put the final 6th DVD/BD in August so the 6 month turn around mark would be February.
But it’s probably getting a dub since S1 is, which would probably push it a couple months past Feb, then they’d have to wait for TBS to clear a BD release.

I’m cool with waiting, giving Sentai time to make sure that this one is at 100%. No label misprints, no audio glitches and, especially, no issues with the subtitles. I get the impression already that the “sub community” is none to happy about being hoodwinked on the BD front by Sentai.

February is barely past “Holiday Season” 2014 so it wouldn’t break my heart if it came out sometime around then.
