Maiden Japan Plays with the Big Bots with the Acquisition of ‘Basquash!’

Maiden Japan announced today the acquisition of the genre-defying action series Basquash! Directed by legendary creator of Macross, Shoji Kawamori, from a story by Tatsuo Sato (Martian Successor Nadesico, Bodacious Space Pirates). The dystopian sports, drama, and comedy story, explores a unique alternative Earth where the protagonists find themselves caught up in a bizarre game that fuses giant robots and basketball.

On the planet Earthdash, the infrastructure is crumbling and everyone who can wants to reach the technologically advanced lunar city of Mooneyes. Only the elites are allowed to leave the Earth. This is a problem for young Dan JD, who wants to take his disabled sister to the moon for medical treatment for her paralyzed legs. Dan’s big chance comes when he crashes a game of Bigfoot Basketball, which is played with giant robots, and accidentally revolutionizes the sport. Taking the game to new heights of mayhem and destruction, he gains fame but not fortune or a trip to the moon. Instead, he’ll have to fight his way to the top of a radically changed game while solving a mystery that could affect the future of the entire planet.

Co-created by Shoji Kawamori and visual futurist Thomas Romain (Oban Star Racers, Space Dandy), the original series was produced by Satelight Studios (Fairy Tail, Log Horizon, Hellsing Ultimate) and originally aired via the Mainichi Broadcasting System. The 26-episode series will initially be released for streaming on selected media outlets.
