There are probably worse things that could have happened to Ichika Orimura than being the only guy in a training academy filled with military hardware and several battalions of highly competitive and extremely boy-crazed teenage girls. And being caught in a five-girl crossfire between his obsessive childhood friends Lingyin and Houki and the even more zealous British, German and French pilots Cecillia, Laura and Charlotte, at least turned out to be survivable. But surely, Ichika’s finally put all his female troubles behind him, right? Oh don’t be ridiculous. None of the femmes fatales in his life have canceled their conquest scenarios; there’s double trouble arriving in the form of the Sarashiki sisters; the rest of the school is still waiting in line to take their shot; and when a whole new set of female pilots working for the bad guys shows up with a new generation of stolen IS hardware, things are about to get utterly lethal! The mayhem continues, the mecha runs amok, the hormones run wild and the maiden’s behavior becomes even less maidenly as Ichika gets schooled for a second spectacular semester in INFINITE STRATOS 2!

Illyasviel von Einzbern’s life has become ridiculously complicated since the Kaleidostick Ruby convinced her to become a magical girl and join the quest for collecting the seven Class Cards. Since then, almost every day has brought a new surprise, from gaining new friends and partners like Miyu Edelfelt, to encountering her own magical twin! One would think Illya deserves a little time off, right? No such luck: a trip to the beach quickly turns into a magical quest, and Illya finds herself caught in a string of magical feuds, encounters with love potions, an excursion into the world of “boys love” comics (plus the women who read them), and half a dozen other delirious diversions. However, that’s only the warm-up for what might be her final mission: recovering the long-lost Eighth Card! Q. The Umaru box set is amazing! Do you have anything else as crazy planned for the future? I’d love a Sakamoto box that includes his glasses. Any plans to dub Bakuon and Girlish Number? Will you eventually release the Ajin and Danmachi OVA’s?

Q. Would I still be supporting the industry / original creators if a bought a new DVD/Bluray off of Amazon?

A. Yes! Purchasing home video releases from your favorite retailer is a perfect way to support the industry. Look for the “Sentai Filmworks” logo and copyright on the packaging to make sure you’re getting the right product (you don’t want icky knock-offs). However, we offer a lot of deals on the Sentai shop (shop.sentaifilmworks.com) via email coupons, seasonal promotions, and love.

Q. Hey have you considered switching from yellow subtitles to white subtitles? Like every other major anime licensor in the US. Also didn’t Sentai hold the license for Konosuba.

A. Yellow subtitles with black outline are part of our style guide for multiple reasons, the highest reason relating to higher visibility and readability. Also, so we do not hold the license to Konosuba.

Another month, another edition of #AskSentai! Let’s see what we have here…

We had a good one submitted to the ask.fm regarding subtitles from different companies. This month, we also have more dub inquiries, waifu inquiries, and a confession. Just a reminder, we cannot answer question about unannounced dubs or licenses on ask.fm, but we do appreciate it when you send in your suggestions. It’s how we know what you guys actually want, after all.

###Our 9 Favorite Black-Haired Anime Characters

These black-haired anime characters are known for their rational minds and their ability to keep calm under pressure. From assassins to fortune tellers, they do their chosen profession to the best of their capabilities. They always look at the bigger picture and aren’t afraid to take chances. Here are our favorite onyx-hued characters!

###Rahzel Anadis (Hatenkou Yugi)

One of the loudest and most positive-minded in this group, Rahzel has one of the sharpest minds. Clever and sometimes… not so clever. She fights hard for the downtrodden and those she wants to protect. With an iron-will at her core, nothing can shake her once she has a cause in her grips.

###Akame (Akame Ga Kill!)

An assassin by chance, Akame is a woman with a cold demeanor. Her childhood made her cautious of the world, but it also made her into a kinder person… unlike her little sister Kurome. She’s got a single objective in mind: to take down the empire.

###Bądarzewska (ClassicaLoid)

Bada-chan tends to be headstrong and defiant towards those she perceives to be stifling her growth. Call her a ‘one-hit wonder’, and she’ll claw your eyes out. Bada-chan tries her best to overcome her grudge, but even the cheeriest of us can lose it eventually.

###Mako Reizei (Girls und Panzer)

Mako is lazy and can’t fathom why people would want to wake up so early (to be fair, Mako, we totally agree with you). Her lazy nature is offset by the fact that she is a genius. She learned to drive a tank after reading the manual once! Protective of her loved ones, she’s willing to swim oceans for them… literally.

###Kota Hirano (High School of the Dead)

Hirano is known as the gun otaku. While he might not be part of any post-zombie apocalypse decision-making, he is the fiercest fighter in the group. Using his knowledge of tactical warfare, he becomes a vital part of the group’s survival embodying the survivor trope of the black-haired character.

###Hiromi Nase (Beyond the Boundary)

Hiromi, never seen without his trademark scarf, is goofy and laid back when he is with his friends. When it’s time to fight, though, he becomes quite serious and is shown to be quite calculating and cunning. Hiromi is protective of his friends and family, especially his (almost TOO beloved) little sister.

###Kohina Ichimatsu (Gugure! Kokkuri-san)

All Kohina wants to do is eat noodles and be a doll. If only Kokkuri-san wasn’t so keen on having her live like a normal girl. Excelling in being unhealthy with all that sodium and hissing at the sun, Kohina is proof that, well, you can live like a doll if you really try.

###Kon Tatsumi (Urara Meirocho)

The level-headed one of the group, Kon acts as the girls’ guide into the vast world fortune telling. Kon explains the process of becoming an Urara to the other fortune tellers–in-making, and shows off her vast knowledge when she geeks out over different fortune-telling devices. This girl is your typical overachiever, and that’s why we love her.

###Rory Mercury (GATE)

This black-haired beauty is the oldest of in this list and a demi-goddess. Our lord and savior Rory Mercury’s favorite activity is finding criminals and tearing them down with an axe. Battle pleases her, after all. Rory’s determination on the battlefield makes her the perfect disciple of-of the other world’s war god, Emloy.

###Let Your Darkness Fuel You
These black-haired anime characters use their ordeals to fuel them and defeat their demons. Don’t ever think that you can’t overcome any obstacle, because these beauties will kick your butt for doubting yourself! Who is your favorite raven-haired Sentai character? Actually I’m a huge fan of AnimEigo’s subtitles (yellow for subs, with the occasional green sub, with the yellow subs to designate another character speaking at the same time, and a peach colored sub to designate singing / background songs etc) it makes it a lot easier to follow what’s going on, but YMMV

###CELEBRATE #UMBRELLADAY WITH THESE ANIME RAINY DAY SCENES

February 10 is National #UmbrellaDay! Rainy day scenes are staples in anime. Think about how undramatic it would be if a shoujo couple never got to share an umbrella in the rain, or how boring would fights be without dramatic lightning flashing in the background. Rain is a great plot device, but sometimes we forget about the star of the scene: the umbrella!

###Blue Spring Ride – No Umbrella? BOOM! Romance!

It’s the lack of an umbrella during a surprise rain shower that leads to a blossoming crush. Where would a shoujo heroine find herself without some rain and being in the right place at the right time? Maybe the key to finding the love of your life is to never buy an umbrella?

###Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun – All the Umbrella Tropes

The umbrella might as well be another character in the awesome Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun ensemble. We got to explore every anime rainy day scene trope in one episode, for example, Sakura and Nozaki fail at umbrella sharing, and Kashima goes home sheltered in a fan-girl umbrella mushroom.

###WataMote! – Umbrella Souvenir

Kuroki gets caught in the rain with two other guys her age, and the three take shelter beneath a bus stop canopy. Is romance brewing? Will this classic shoujo event launch the socially awkward and withdrawn Kuroki into popularity? Probably not: but it’s worth noting that she does get a free umbrella out of the adventure!

###Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto – Umbrellas are Magic

Clearly, the rain is a backdrop for feats that can often only be accomplished in anime. Sakamoto’s umbrella work not only helps him save a poor bird, but helps him descend with style that would likely make Mary Poppins proud.

###Tanaka-kun is Always Listless –Umbrella Sharing Fail

What’s more romantic than walking home with your crush in the rain? Sharing an umbrella, shoulders pressed up against each other… unless, of course, you’re sharing an umbrella with listless Tanaka-kun. Did you notice that the one holding the umbrella was Shiraishi?! Additionally, his shoulders were soaking wet from not being close enough to her underneath the umbrella. #UmbrellaFail
