Arc covering Kirito’s quest for Excalibur starts on October 18

The Dengeki website began streaming the latest promotional video for Sword Art Online II’s “Calibur” arc on Saturday. The Calibur arc (light novel volume 8) revolves around the quest for the legendary sword Excalibur. The video features the anime’s new opening song, “courage,” by Haruka Tomatsu.

The same video debuted at the Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten (Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival) event last Sunday. The Calibur arc will start on October 18 on Tokyo MX and other stations, followed by the Mother’s Rosary (Mother’s Rosario) arc on November 8.

Haruka Tomatsu, LiSA sing new songs this fall for Calibur, Mother’s Rosary arcs

Aniplex of America began streaming the English-subtitled trailer for “The Next Chapter” of Sword Art Online II on Saturday. Aniplex of America ran the same English trailer during its New York Comic Con panel on Saturday, and the original Japanese version aired last weekend.

The anime will begin the Calibur arc (pictured right) from Reki Kawahara’s original light novel series on October 18 on Tokyo MX and other stations, followed by the Mother’s Rosary (Mother’s Rosario, pictured below) arc on November 8. These arcs will use a new opening theme song “courage” by Haruka Tomatsu, as well as a new ending theme song by LiSA.

The Calibur arc (light novel volume 8) revolves around the quest for the legendary sword Excalibur. In the Mother’s Rosary arc (light novel volume 7), Asuna faces a duel against an secretive Avatar named Zekken for an Original Sword Skill.

A compilation episode, episode 14.5 “Debriefing,” aired on Saturday with a preview of footage from the Calibur arc.

2nd OP song for “Sword Art Online II” TV anime

The official website for popular anime voice actress Haruka Tomatsu has posted the photos for the three versions of her upcoming 14th single “courage.” The song is now featured as the 2nd OP song for Sword Art Online II TV anime. She has played the main heroine Asuna/Asuna Yuuki in the anime series, and previously sang the 1st ED song for the first season, “Yume Sekai,” which was released in July 2012 as her 9th solo single. Her 14th single “courage” will be available in Japan on December 3.

To think, Asuna joins the guild to help them make one more last memory in the virtual world… because they’ll be busy come spring? Nope! You find out that 3 of the guild members only have at most 3 months to live and, Yuuki being one of them, has AIDS. That’s brutal. I’m glad Asuna got to know the truth and why Yuuki disappeared so suddenly last episode.

Michelle Ruff joins cast as Sinon

Aniplex of America announced at its Katsucon panel on Saturday that Sword Art Online II will air on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block beginning on March 28 at 1:00 a.m. EST. The English dub cast from the first season will return, and Michelle Ruff (Bleach, Gurren Lagann) will join the cast as Sinon.

The first Sword Art Online series previously ran on Toonami starting in August, 2013.

Aniplex of America streamed Sword Art Online II on Daisuki and Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan beginning last July. The series adapts the third arc, Phantom Bullet, from Reki Kawahara’s original light novel series.

Toonami premiered Kill la Kill earlier this month, but the block’s run time was recently cut by several hours.

This volume with episodes 23, “Beginning of a Dream” and 24, “Mother’s Rosario” will be released on June 24th. In addition to bonus CD, 16-page booklet, audio commentary and SD character video, the limited edition Blu-ray will feature new Reki Kawahara short story “Sisters’ Prayer.”
