It’s the final Saint Seiya movie (until the upcoming CG movie comes out, that is), and it’s the first time Kurumada attempted to continue the original story. Though it isn’t canon anymore, it’s still worth watching to see what could have been, as long you’ve seen and/or read the original story completely and can understand that all of the ambiguity is there because this is a prologue.
The http://www.youtube.com/user/HappyConsoleGamer over at YouTube ended up recommending this movie after showing off an artbook he had bought… And it’s easy to see why he loves it, as it really is a great movie brought to you by Sunrise! It’s the end of the posthumously-named “Greek Movie Month” and this is:
How was this never licensed? Why didn’t ADV license this back in the 90s? Sentai, correct this wrong! Enjoy!
This review if for a live-action J-Drama, but it’s based on an old-school Jump manga (and by old-school I mean it predates Kochikame, Ring ni Kakero, and Kinnikuman!). It’s also awesomely insane to watch and can be seen legally over at http://www.dramafever.com/drama/788/1/Team_Astro/!
This newest season of Ring ni Kakero 1 has ended this past Sunday and I have been looking forward to making this review. I have plenty to say about this show, and I let it out.
Though this show doesn’t hint at a potential next season at the end, I do hope that Toei continues making this show and goes all the way to the end of the manga. I hope for that just as much as I still hope for this anime series to one day get licensed.
It’s time to talk license rescues once again! Here are another “twelve” older animes that I feel deserve license rescues… And, yes, Black Magic M-66 is included!
“Twelve More” Older Animes That Deserve License Rescues:
This review is a quickie, but sometimes they just end up this way. Pilots can be fun to watch since they usually offer a different take on what we usually see from an anime adaptation of a manga. And since this manga is coming back from yet another hiatus, I felt it was an appropriate time to review this:
Though I’ve talked about manga on the blog before, this is my first manga review, and it’s the original manga version of Ultimate Muscle! Boy, would I love to see the anime version licensed now and given an uncut release… But this review is for the manga.
This is a funny and heartwarming anime about a fifth grad girl with the body of a sexy university student. If Sentai wants to continue licensing older anime I say they can’t go wrong with this one. Even though it’s 20 episodes, each episode is only 12 minutes long so they entire show can be released in one set.
No review this time around but instead a look at the not-so-rise and absolute-fail of Illumitoon Entertainment, since I noticed that the company’s website has been suspended today.
Even though this is the Anime Network forums, I make a plead for Sentai Filmworks to license rescue some of Illumitoon’s licenses! B’t X and AM Driver were once on TAN’s Video-On-Demand service, so why not make both shows available in their entirety?
Go Nagai’s Devilman and Violence Jack are highly-recognized works of apocalyptic manga and anime… But did you know that fellow Dynamic Pro main-man Ken Ishikawa had his own take on the end fo the world? No, you say? Well, then take of a look at this anime:
BONES is a very highly-regarded anime studio, with many of their works becoming very well-loved and remembered. But BONES’ very first solo work isn’t anywhwere near as known, even though it’s a very good series and great proof that anime aimed at kids can still be enjoyable for people of all ages. It also helps if you like mech anime to a point…
Enjoy and take advantage of that Right Stuf bargain set!
I try not to do a new piece only one day after the last, but this is an interesting topic that I wanted to finally talk about. Animes based on video games aren’t rare, but when the head of the company behind one of them supposedly takes the money and production masters and runs away, you end up with an anime that is even rarer than Chou Kosoku Galvion!
Please note that this isn’t a review, but rather a look at what happened with this movie. Even if it’s not a good anime, I would still love to watch this one day. Enjoy!
Another video game-bsed anime review this time, but this one is actually very excellently done. It’s a textbook example of how to properly adapt a video game into an anime and was even released in the UK by Western Connection back in the mid-90s!
Sentai Filmworks, the Gradius series is still well-beloved around the world and there is already an official English subtitle track for this anime, though there are gaps that should be filled in. If you want an older anime to license, then I say Salamander would be a good choice. Enjoy!
I figured that since I’ve talked about two game-based animes already, I might as well make September be all about game-based animes. And next up is a bit of an infamous OVA based on the world of a highly-loved RPG: Chrono Trigger. But don’t go expecting to see anything more than two back-of-the-head shots of Crono and Lucca, or else you’ll be highly disappointed.
I loved ADV as much as the next anime fan, but let’s be honest here… Tekken? Samurai Shodown? Panzer Dragoon?! Why was ADV licensing game-based animes like those when there was a perfectly good one based on the Ninja Gaiden series that was never licensed?
It’s the last of the game-based anime reviews I’ll be doing for the moment, and it’s a twofer… Two reviews in one! Time to go back to Konami shooters and take a look at a anime based on a series that’s only recently been getting released here in North America, years after the last “new” game for it has been made.
This makes 40 reviews for the blog… Only 10 more until 50, where I shall celebrate by torturing my eyes. Enjoy!
Another anime from this past spring has finished and it was excellent. Why none of the Madhouse Gambling Series has been licensed yet is beyond me, and that should be rectified! Madhouse puts out these amazing shows and even with a three year gap they haven’t lost their touch.
A shorter review this time around, but that’s partially because there’s not much to say about this show. It’s not bad by any means, but you get the feeling that it could have been better. Still, I say that it’s worth watching… Just keep your expectations in check.
Though never stated directly, I only review animes that I have seen the entirety of. With that in mind, there are animes out there that I wwant to review, but can’t simply because I haven’t seen the entirety of any of them. So come take a look at:
Twelve Animes I Want to Review… But Can’t (Anytime Soon, at Least)
The great news? A title that was originally on this list had to be removed since I found a way to watch all of it! That will be next review, proving that not everything is impossible.
