Ranks #14 over holiday weekend
So I just saw this one and enjoyed it. Easily the best anime film Iâve seen theatrically, and IMO the best Shinkai film.
If you watched Shinkaiâs A Place Promised in Our Early Days, or experienced Salingerâs Catcher in the Rye and liked the themes but thought that one or both could do with an improvement in implementation, this might just be up your alley.
Also, in a massive lesson to Funimation, Crunchyroll, etc, GKIDS has released this as a real movie. This means that it has been in theaters for a week and that passes/discounts apply to it. It is nice to see a niche anime movie be more than just a âone day and doneâ affair, more animovies should be like this.

I could see the film again, but I would not want to see a movie about rain in a theater that douses me with water when there is water on the screen.
