I only thought of her as two-faced considering how she acts, but 3… for shame.

Elizabeth Maxwell stars as Motoko Kusanagi in borders 1, 2
the Major isnt being played by the Major? What is this, some sort of hack[ing] job on the series!?!?!
Who was the group of dumb people in the Tachikoma that came up with this?
having Mary Elizabeth McGlynn as someone other than the Major, is like having Lou Ferigno as an extra in an Incredile Hulk movie!
Where is Shiroe flipping the table when I need him!
Ruh-Roh! The fan backlash for Funi gaffes has been (unfortunately) impotent but this mess might break that trend.
As I recall, Epcar went to lengths in the past to make sure that Batou’s dub continuity was preserved. Who at Funimation thought that it was a good idea to recast a well known role with a well-known actor who makes every role that he plays sound the same (He’s almost to Steve Blum levels with that talent)?
Exactly. Also, Maxwell doesn’t appear to be much of a veteran anime voice actress and Funimation casting greenhorns has been something of a crapshoot lately.
I wonder who directs this. In many ways the director is more important than the cast.
See the reason they went with a new cast for Arise was that Atsuko Maeda (Motoko’s VA) is pushing 50 years old, so they cast Maaya Sakamoto who played child Motoko in SAC, hence preserving a bit of continuity in their casting.
There’s absolutely no reason for Funi to do this besides not wanting to make the effort to get at least Epcar, Freeman and Knight, plus McGlynn (Batou, Tougosa, Aramaki, and the Major) would have made everyone who’s a fan of the SAC dub (myself included) happy. Makes me glad I got the 1st 2 imported episodes (3rd on preorder) because I won’t support this dub decision…
oh and by the way, here’s the link to the dub preview:
Sabat is an Epic Fail as Batou in my opinion…
I almost hope that the Japanese insisted upon this wonky casting as that would get Funi off the hook, but then I’d blame Funi for caving to the Japanese again and hurting the dub as a result. As I recall, Funimation itself decided to recast Evangelion, Trigun and Last Exile so…
Is there any plot significance to the former Motoko voice actress playing this new role?
If not, it is just going to compound the weirdness, especially since Maxwell seems to be playing Motoko the way McGlynn played her. Sabat as Batou is worse than I feared. After hearing the JoJo dub, I’m thinking that it would have been closer to have put Swasey as Batou. It certainly couldn’t have been further from the Epcar legend.
I’m starting to wish that Funi had outsourced this one instead of doing what they did with Eva and Trigun. Shoot, at least with those titles the leads that they brought in got to play their classic characters.

“Arise” prequel site makes announcement as limited theatrical run for final episode kicks off
Wolf of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie is in talks for a possible starring role in the live-action adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) is directing the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, which has been in development at Dreamworks since 2008 (see “‘Snow White’ Helmer to Direct ‘Ghost in the Shell’”).
Deadline reports that Robbie was in negotiations “to star” in the live-action Ghost in the Shell, which would likely mean that she would take on the role of the leader of the assault team for Public Security Section 9. In the original that was the sexy Major Motoko Kusanagi, though doubtless the character’s name will be changed if, as expected, the story’s setting for the film is changed.
Shirow’s original Ghost in the Shell manga was originally published in 1987 and appears ever more prescient today with its vision of a computer-dominated future replete with hacker villains. The property spawned three anime movies, an anime TV series (Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex), and multiple videogames.

Another day, another Funimation delay. At this point, it’s almost more noteworthy when a Funimation release isn’t delayed.
I’d like to hope that they decided to put Epcar back in his signature role and thus the delay but that’s the unwarranted optimism bubbling to the surface again
