Kazune Kawahara, Aruko’s romantic comedy manga also inspired ongoing TV anime
The June issue of Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine is revealing on Wednesday that Kazune Kawahara and Aruko’s My Love Story!! (Ore Monogatari!!) shōjo romantic comedy manga is getting a live-action film adaptation. The announcement does not provide any further details, but asks fans to look forward to the announcement of “who will play most honorable man amongst men.”
Viz Media is publishing the manga in North America, and the publisher describes the story:
Takeo Gōda is a giant guy with a giant heart. Too bad the girls don’t want him! (They want his good-looking best friend, Sunakawa.) Used to being on the sidelines, Takeo simply stands tall and accepts his fate. But one day when he saves a girl named Yamato from a harasser on the train, his (love!) life suddenly takes an incredible turn!
The manga has also inspired an ongoing television anime adaptation from Studio MADHOUSE that premiered in April. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs, and Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series for home video.
Kawahara (High School Debut) first debuted the original 100-page version of the story in an issue of Bessatsu Margaret Sister in October 2011, but the manga then returned in Bessatsu Margaret as a serialized work with artist Aruko (Yasuko and Kenji) in April 2012. Shueisha is publishing the ninth compiled book volume of the manga on June 25, and Viz published the fourth volume in April.
The series won Best Shojo Manga at the 37th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2013. Additionally, the series topped the list of Manga for Female Readers in the 2013 edition of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook.
Update: Shueisha will announce the film’s cast in the magazine’s July issue on June 13.
