Hell Girl 2, I really liked Hell Girl - so perhaps… “it’s time to die”

I’m still mad at Funimation for not picking up more of Hell Girl. It’s an AMAZING series, one of my all time favorites. It’s easy to understand why it’s such a big hit in Japan, but people here have no tastes it seems. Idiots should have bought the thing on DVD! I would have loved to see what they would have done for the dub on season 2. But I am VERY happy that Sentai picked this up, even if it will be sub-only. Can’t wait to buy it. Now to actually get money…lol!

But people did buy it and it did well, supposedly, according to Funi. I guess it didn’t do them DB numbers compared to the time they spent on the dub. So I guess about sometime during winter, we’ll be happily waiting for Darker Than Black, Shana, all season 2 etc. from Sentai.

P.S. Seems the fists season of Hell Girl has been “discontinued by the manufacturer” according to amazon and it’s been out of stock for a while on other sites as well, with only 1-2 copies remaining of the singles and the “order soon” tag after them.

LOL that nut over there has no facts or basis whatsoever in his case, it’s hilarious. Probably either a troll on purpose or another clueless person that thinks we’re still in the bubble era.
Not gonna let them rain on the parade though. Tonka and I had a discussion about this recently, the landscape is certainly changing more and more, over the last few months a lot of the dub whiners have slowly been silenced as they are accepting the state of the market. Sentai and S23 is quickly gaining a lot of good-will for picking up a lot of fan favorites and completing series that others won’t pick up. Sentai is quickly amassing an impressive and diversified line up for 2010. They’re rebuilding their catalog very smartly both to earn good-will but also make smart business moves, with a very strong diversified line up: everything from otaku stuff, to shonen and now more and more stuff that’ll appeal to more mainstream audiences.
Sentai clearly wants to dub stuff, they just are being selective and cautious on what they will dub - Appleseed is a great beginning from a business standpoint.
OK, what’s up with this “Dub Whiners” stuff(doesn’t bother me, just asking)? I am a dub fan. Just because I prefer dub over sub, would that make a “whiner”, or a “winner”, as my father used to call me?:unsure:

I thought the same thing. Dub Appleseed and see how it does. Then they can determine whether there really is still enough of a market out there to warrant dubbing TV series. Logic is being applied - something these whiners do not use in their arguments. :S

A dub whiner is someone who complains whenever a sub-only anime is released. They claim that the only way to get fans to buy anime is to do an english dub, and if a company does a sub-only release, it means they hate the fans aND won’t dub because they are filling their pockets with huge stacks of cash. They believe that any company in business has the money to do an English dub. Basically, they aren’t in touch with reality.
I also like English dubs over subs. But I’m also realistic in my expectations of S23/Sentai. I might be disappointed that they aren’t dubbing, but I don’t believe they are crapping on our heads.

Yeah, on the industry forums. Basically what Zaku just mentioned. On every single licensing announcement they whine like crazy, hope Sentai/S23 or other sub-only companies die and everyone loses their job or these fans “threaten” the companies to release things their way or they’ll go back to piracy only and never buy (LOL a lot of these people pirate mostly).
Basically they’re just acting like spoiled brats. It’s one thing to be disappointed about no dubs, we all get that for sure, but when they constantly post everywhere complaining about the same thing nonstop for a year - and in many cases these people complaining don’t buy, and they pirate… It just gets annoying.
ADV collapsed in many ways because it listened to these types of people. I call them a mirage. They say dub this, dub that, license this, license that… ADV and other companies did, but these people only waited for super cheap box sets and companies lost money, the companies also realized that a lot of the people who demanded stuff, they were a lot smaller than they thought.
So… in the last year or two, companies are adjusting to that contracting market. The problem is these “whiners” don’t care. If they don’t get their cake and eat it too, they hope companies die, threaten to pirate or some other ridiculous crap that further damages the industry - and they keep proclaiming it over and over in every thread nonstop.

Yep, that’s true. However, you may still be able to find it at your nearby Big Lots! store. I got the first disc there about a month ago for the princely sum of $3.00. It seems Funi has dumped a lot of titles off to Big Lots!.. I’ve gotten various disks of Baccano, Witchblade, Claymore, Speed Grapher, xxxHolic and other titles that escape me there over the last two-three months-in fact, if I can find collection 3, I’ll have the complete set of Baccano for $12.
Well right stuff still got singles cheap. They had copies left of all 6 volumes as I just order the four I was missing. I said this before I use to be a sub only hater but never this way. Seriously some of these need to a chill pill man. Missing out on Tears To Tiara, You’re Under Arrest, Aria, Maria Watches Over Us, Gakuen Alice (Alice Academy), Beast Go Lion, Clannad, Princess Resurrection, among other good sub only titles is their own stupidity.

I have a feeling a lot of them are sub accounts they use for occasions like these. The way they type and what they say is so similar to the other handful of posters - and there really aren’t many left. It’s one thing to echo, but to have very similar posting styles and word usage gets more noticeable as the amounts of complaints get reduced. Makes me wonder if they feel the heat and feel they can only get their points across is by doing this given more and more people are moving on from the petty complaining.
I give up man. It just ain’t worth it. If I keep going imma do something to piss the mods off by trolling him or making some image macro thingie…I won’t be able to help it.

I think the term you are looking for is sock puppets.
Not really sure what is going on but just thought i would put that word into a few more peoples vocabulary.
You know a lot of us have been noticing this at ANN. Myself, a mod and a few other posters discussed this once over there. You’ll have three poster all making the exact same complaints and even having the same typos.

LOL indeed. LPs -_- This is the best part. I think lately they are trying to get more sophisticated by being less transparent.
Dub whiners are people who complain about the single line of text they have to read on a TV screen, yet happily read manga where they not only have to read, but have to turn the pages themselves too.
That’s the part that really gets me, as well as a majority of them watching FS illegally. It’s all well and good to watch stuff with sub, as long as it’s free, but now they want a new experience. Maybe if they waited for stuff to be brought out here, by the time it comes out here, they could actually contribute to the economic cycle through VOD, SVOD, ad revenue anything… But they don’t and when it comes out here… they’re just watching the new illegal stuff there.
No, what really bothers me, is that most of these people whine about wanting dubs, then when they get them, the show is too expensive. So they wait until it’s in the bargain bin to buy it, or just stream it online for free, or continue watching their fansubs.
If you’re not willing to put your money where your mouth is, then SHUT THE HELL UP!
