Planzet Bluray

I will probably watch this tonight after work. I’m looking for something to erase the disappointment of Shiki, plus it’s only 50 minutes. If it’s a waste of time, it won’t be that much time.

How bad was Shiki? After one ep, I’m on the fence. I got the Gin Tama movie the other day, but I haven’t watched it yet. TBH the Engrish title kept me away from “Plan Zed”, but if it does turn out to be good, then I’ll have to see about giving Sentai another cash infusion…

Shiki’s really not bad, but so far, it’s not very good either. It’s very cliched and predictable. The atmosphere is cool, but the music doesn’t suit it. The OP, ED, and background music just don’t sync up with the show at all.

I keep looking for another Ghost Hunt, which was truly creepy and times and had perfectly suited music, or even another Ghost Hound, but so far, I haven’t found anything close.

On the other hand, Planzet was pretty decent, especially given the short run time. The visual effects and film style are both pretty cool and unique. It uses a sort of grainy effect to make the film seem look a bit dated or almost nostalgic. It reminded me a lot of some of the 90’s OVAs I’ve seen, just done in CGI. My only real complaint was the mouth flaps, which are a bit off in both the Japanese and English versions. Unfortunately, that seems to be an issue with Japanese CGI (what little there is.)

FWIW, the Planzet dub is top notch. Tiffany Grant is particularly excellent in her role.

As I pointed out in the other thread, Shiki’s one of those series that takes a while to get going but is totally worth watching once it’s over. It has the kind of pacing to the story where it uses the first half for buildup to the second. It might turn some impatient people away who want immediate payoff, sure, but you definitely get that later on. Personally, I think Anime-Planet’s Comments on the show is pretty much spot on if that helps. Personally, what I liked about it the most was how It first portrays the Shiki as antagonists and by the end you can’t tell whose worse the bloodsuckers or the humans exterminating them. As far as executing philosophical and ethical messages goes this show gets a 10 of 10.

Kurenai DVD Complete Collection
K-On! Season 2 Part 1 Bluray Collection

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday that Sentai announced K-On!! It seems a little weird to get a shipping notice already. Also, I totally didn’t budget it in for this week. Yikes!

It had a scene in ep 3 that was obviously reminiscent of Isaac and Miria from Baccano!, and they had Tatum play the “Isaac” role. Sadly they have Lydia Mackay in the “Miria” role, but they’re halfway there. That’s all I needed to watch the show, though David Wald @ Funimation gave me a sort of morbid curiosity. So far though, I have to agree that it is painfully obvious.

I just received the Gintama blu-ray that I couldn’t play, and have Golgo 13 and Towanoquon (DVD) on order from RightStuf. It’s now June, rightStuf could totally ship those out now.

To Love Ru Complete Collection

I waited until the last day to see if the Sept. slate and pre-orders would pop up, but it looks like it probably won’t, so I went ahead and put my 2 orders in.

-edit-
Had to do some rearranging with these orders, since I underestimated my gift card amount.
Added Shinobi (LiveAction) to Order #1
Removed Motto To Love Ru -Trouble- from Order #1 and added it to Order #2

-edit-
Ahh, I figured out the problem.
Apparently, Princess Resurrection wasn’t included in the sale for some strange reason.
So I only got the 10% GA discount off the regular price, which resulted in a $9.45 increase in price over what I put on the gift card assuming everything I ordered was included in the sale.
-sigh-
Oh well, at least I figured out where the increase came from
