9-nine- Ruler's Crown

9-nine- Ruler’s Crown

Plot Summary: Shiromitsugawa is a run-of-the-mill college town that has launched several failed attempts to drum up tourism and revitalize itself, including sponsoring a high-budget-but-poorly-written anime based on local folklore. A storm is about to descend on this sleepy town. Kakeru Niimi is a man who can be a bit curt at times but who has a strong sense of responsibility and a kind heart. Kakeru’s ordinary life is thrown into chaos after the local shrine’s sacred relic shatters. In the wake of this event, several young men and women awaken to superhuman abilities. What was once a run-of-the-mill life in a run-of-the-mill town soon turns into a quest to track down a superpowered serial killer before they can strike again.

Yami starts purring and cuddling me.

Nemesis: “FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, @SLOWHAND!!!”

I’m absolutely broken right now…

It’s available on Bilibili for free as long as you have a VPN, as it won’t stream in the US.

But the subtitles…

They are quite literally the worst ones I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

They make the original Sentai subtitles on TLR Darkness seem perfectly legible…

It has to be an AI translation…

The one show I’ve been hyped about seeing for for nearly a year now…

My heart is in pieces…

But the shareholders say all the kids like this Ai thing!

Actual screenshots from Bilibili…

That last one, Yami clearly says Artifact IN ENGLISH

So. I have somewhat good news.

Either someone is at least partially checking the AI subtitles now, or the algorithm has been improved.

They’re still not great, but they’re at least mostly understandable now.

Aside from every character having several names…

Example: Miyako Kujou: Kudo, Kubo, Xialong, Senior Du.

I can not make that up…

So. 9-nine had a recap episode.

And for quite possibly the first time ever, I was personally thankful for it.

It’s clips of the first 8 episodes dubbed over by Sophie (the little plush mascot who is actually a blue hair Loli, who is voiced by Satomi Arai, aka Peke from To Love Ru and Z52 from Azur Lane).

However, some of the AI mistranslated lines from the show are made understandable, so it’s a significant plus.

Episode 11…

I didn’t know AI subtitles could get improperly synced…

I learned something new today…

In this scene, she’s saying Cute kitties! in Japanese…

Earlier in the episode, she’s talking about how her sister ran in front of a truck on the way to a hero show and that she blames herself for it…

I trudged through these mediocre at best AI subtitles to see this show through to the end.

AND IT WAS SO WORTH IT!!! THAT ENDING!!!

Mikan: “Think Maou’s gonna buy the “Official Malaysian Release”, since there’s a 99% chance it will never be released in the US?”

Nemesis: “Do birds fly?”
