TV staff return for compilation film with new sequences & brand-new film

The August issue of Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine is announcing on Monday that production on two Arpeggio of Blue Steel anime films has been green-lit for next year. The first film will be a compilation of last year’s television anime series with new story sequences, while the second film will be an entirely brand-new work.

The film projects will reunite the staff from last fall’s television anime series. Seiji Kishi will be directing at SANZIGEN Animation Studio, and Makoto Uezu will be in charge of the scripts. Masato Kōda is once again composing the music.

In Ark Performance’s original science-fiction naval manga, humanity lost much of its developed land due to global warming in the first half of the 21st century. Then, a “Fleet of Fog” loaded with super weapons suddenly appears all over the world. Without the ability to withstand this fleet, humanity was defeated and could no longer travel the seas. 17 years after the devastating naval war, Gunzō Chihaya and his crewmates somehow commandeer a “Fleet of Fog” submarine named I-401. Together with Iona (I-401’s “mental model” or incarnation in humanoid form), they take on the “Fleet of Fog.”

The television anime reaired this year with 12 new “Kiri-Kumas” (literally, “Fog-Bears”) shorts by same main staff who worked on both the television anime and the upcoming movies.

The staff of the Arpeggio of Blue Steel films announced the title, release date, and other information about the first film on Thursday.

The first film, titled Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova DC, will open in Japanese theaters on January 31, 2015. The staff hinted that the “DC” in the film’s title has a deep meaning, and they also joked that the DC does not stand for “Dream Cast.” The voice actress unit Trident (consisting of Mai Fuchigami, Manami Numakura, and Hibiku Yamamura) will perform the opening theme song of the movie. The song is still in production.
