OK, I realize we have some newbies here–they haven’t been around as long as some of us have been and they didn’t go through either the golden age of anime in the 1990s or the implosion in the early 2000s (when Sojitz tried a hostile takeover of A.D.V.) Therefore, I want to make some things clear.
Claim Your Bishoujo/Bishounen is a celebration of the beautiful girls and boys of anime, manga, and visual novels–all of which originated in Japan. This celebration is of the hard work of the creative people of Japan (and, more recently, of South Korea, China, and even Vietnam, as they contribute to many anime series.)
When I set up the rules, I specified that they be from professional works, by specifying that fan-made characters were not allowed. (By the way, upon reflecting upon this rule, this on its face precludes characters from doujinshis.) This rule was put in place to maintain the focus on the characters I intended to have the players highlight.
Therefore, Sarahviola, to answer your question, “So if it’s an American TV seires I can’t Claim?” (sic), the answer is, yes, you can’t claim a character from an American TV series–specifically because it is American made.
In a related matter, I’ve decided that Webtoon characters will no longer be allowed as claims in CYBB, for the reasons cited above. Webtoons appears to be nothing more than a web-based doujinshi site. While some may be making some small profit from their works, I can’t see where Webtoons can be considered a professional publishing house.
One last thing: if you add in the original “Claim your Bishoujo/Bishounen! - The Reboot” thread, then we passed 100K views a long time ago–so, Kyouta, I would have to say, “I don’t think so.”
