Kana Ichinose, Megumi Han, Aoi Yūki star in anime
Hey guys! Holy cow, has it already been a month since I posted last? Time flies.
I’m happy to state that our incredible new interview with Robert Napton has just posted to Youtube. Napton co-produced many of the very first anime releases in North America at US Renditions, and then later worked at Bandai Entertainment up until its final days. Lots of great history and back story.
MEMBER EXCLUSIVES
For our paid subscribers, we have an extra 20 minutes with Napton. He goes far deeper into the early days of anime dubs, his contentious relationship with Carl Macek (of Streamline Pictures and Robotech fame), and other great stuff that didn’t quite fit the narrative arc of the main episode.
If you’re not a paid subscriber, you’re missing out. While we have a $5 tier for people who just want the video extras, our supporter tiers now have access to an exclusive MediaOCD Discord Channel , as well as other new features we’re rolling out soon. Plus, you’re supporting all of our weird and wonderful work!
MIYU UPDATES We’re happy to report that Vampire Princess Miyu’s restoration is now completely finished! The new 2K scan was delivered to us fully color corrected, but parts of the film had a lot of dust, scratches, and warping from splicing glue – all of which have now been cleaned up. It looks absolutely gorgeous!
We had hoped to have Vampire Princess Miyu up for pre-order by now, but it’s currently stuck at approvals stage. This is probably our fault. The artwork we have for Miyu was mixed up with art for the TV series (which we do not have the rights to), and while a lot of things are different between the OVA and TV series, art of Miyu by herself can be hard to distinguish. So that all took some time to straighten out. Anyway, everything is out for final sign-off now, so we hope that we can move forward in the next few weeks.
STOCK UPDATES
The last few weeks have been a bit nutty as far as store inventory goes. But after a rocky few weeks (that included a whole 2,000 copy batch of Bubblegum Crash being assembled with the Bubblegum Crisis case wraps), we are happy to report that this is shipping again. And although we initially thought NASU would arrive at our warehouse last week, it’s actually just shipping out now. A new restock of Priss shirts should also arrive in the next few days. All of these should start going out again in the next few business days. Sorry for all the chaos!
NEW DISCOTEK BACK CATALOG
As we slowly fill out the Discotek titles from the past that we want to stock in our store, we’ve added a few classics that have been released recently:
• MXC - Most Extreme Elimination Challenge - Collection 1
• Chie the Brat - 1st TV Series
• Digimon Adventure 02 English Version
• Memories
If you haven’t picked up any of these, now’s the time!
FULL MOON UPDATES
Great news – the full series has been successfully AstroRes’ed, and we are now in the process of checking the video and re-adding all of the Japanese text (episode names, credits, etc.). Additionally, the packaging is out for approval. We can’t wait to share all of this with you soon!
CONVENTION SEASON?
We’re still a very small operation, so our convention appearances will be limited this year. However, we’re already planning to be at Anime Expo, Otakon, and AnimeNYC this summer! In what capacity, we really don’t know just yet. However, we expect to have a premiere screening at Otakon, at least a few panels, and Justin plans on working at the Discotek booth when he’s free. Come say hi!
That’s all for now, but that’s plenty! Thanks so much, as always, for your support!
-Justin
