Japan Earthquake News and Other Tragedies

Hi Drifter

So glad to know that you’re doing all right. I hope that all your friends turn out to be ok also.

We’d definitely LOVE to have you back with all your photos, you’ve been missed by us all!

I hope you and your friends will remain safe. These are some very turbulent times.

Glad to know you’re alright, DRIFTER. I remembered you were one of our forum members living in Japan when I created this thread, so it’s great to see you’re safe and sound.

If you would like to donate to relief efforts for the 3/11 Earthquake/Tsunami in Japan
I had tried to replicate the comprehensive list of website links Anime News Network compiled for organizations that are accepting donations for the March 11th Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan, but I realized it would be easier just to link to that list-so if you want to donate, go here:

Don’t forget to come back when you’ve given!

Donations have reached nearly $12 million so far, according to an early tally by the Chronicle of Philanthropy, a newspaper covering nonprofit organizations.

That number is far below the first four-day totals of other recent natural disasters. More than $150 million was raised toward relief within four days of the crisis in Haiti, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy. In the case of Hurricane Katrina, donations exceeded $108 million during the crucial first four days.
Early tomorrow morning, Monday April 4, there is a special on TV, “Gamers Heart Japan” on Channel G4.

2:00am ET/1:00am CT

“Raising awareness for the Red Cross relief efforts in the wake of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami.”

Bravo. I would have watched it, if not for traveling. Anyone see it?

Tokyo ceremony

*March 11, 2014

Jiji Press

The government held a ceremony in Tokyo on Tuesday to mark the third anniversary of the magnitude-9 Great East Japan Earthquake and massive tsunami that killed nearly 16,000 people and left over 2,600 people missing.

About 1,200 people attended the event held at the National Theatre, including the Emperor and Empress, the heads of the legislative, administrative and judicial branches of the government, including Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and representatives of families from the Tohoku region, which was hit hardest by the disaster.

Participants offered a minute of silence at 2:46 p.m., the time of the earthquake off the Pacific coast on March 11, 2011, and prayers for those killed in the disaster.*
