This title was originally held by ADV who did a wonderful job with the dub and translation, going the whole nine yards to include accurate bible verses where the original had been more generic.

And in the end it turns out that it’s the story of a transvest-knight.

The series was good. It had everything going for it, but for some reason it never won me over. I have to agree with the reviewer in Otaku USA who said “I want to like Le Chavalier more. Maybe it would be better as a live-action HBO drama?” . I really enjoyed the animation, the character designs, the dub (well some minor problems in the begining that really bothered me), and the music. The original concept was very unique, it’s a mature series, it has a unique setting, and the characters are very original. But something about it just never won me over, and really lost me at the last episode. And the ending was terrible. It was a good series, and I’ve very glad I bought it, but it should have been a lot better then it was. I’m not sure why I don’t like it more then I do, because I feel like I should like this a lot more. I am still watching “Ghost in the Shell SAC” but finally from the begining, so maybe I’ll like that better when I finally finish it (been watching random episodes of this since it first aired on Adult Swim, finally watching it from episode 1 in order on VOD). I also agree with the reviewer in Otaku USA who said “Moribito” was much better so far.

Still I’m very glad I bought this. I loved all the work ADV put into it, it has some of the best fencing/sword fighting in all of anime (and I fence, or at least I did last year), and a good plot, even if it never won me over completely. I wouldn’t mind re-watching it one day, but it’s a solid 7/10 . It has a real disapointing ending too :frowning:

Yes, the end manages to be both sad and anticlimactic, with a short summary of what happened to D’Eon after that. It is somewhat based on real history, though, D’Eon was a real person who really did a lot of the things romanticized in this story.

I really enjoyed this series. I’ve watched it a couple of times, but I didn’t really get the storyline until I went back and read the historical notes in the extras on each disc. It helped me to more fully understand what was going on. I picked up this series when Best Buy was having their 50% off sale, so I was really happy about getting it for a good price. I agree that this kind of series isn’t for everyone, but since I’m interested in historical anything, it worked for me.

LOL, that guy is kind of fun to watch/listen. The reviews aren’t bad.

LoL I’ve been watching his reviews lately as well. That is the most random person on the planet, but his reviews are full of win. He reviewed Bokurano and Shadow Star Narutaru too, and I think he’s a Kitoh fan. ANd any fan of Kitoh is a friend of mine!

the fact that he loves Patlabor and Gunbuster is what establishes his cred with me.

The only thing that bugged me was he kept pronouncing it as, “Chevy-yay.”

Epic REVIVAL!!! Okay so u know I just got the singles off of TRSI for a really really really good price. And even before I watch it, I have to say - the singles look GOOD. The artbox is the nicest one I have now - it really looks fantastic. Each DVD has a nice slipcover too. A lot of effort went into these!

Now to go watch the actual show

Okay. Hmm. Already 8 eps in X_X need to pace myself, but I am really enjoying this series. First off, the animation and art is awesome. It is very well detailed and vibrant. The sword fighting scenes are intense and fun to watch. Being the history buff that I am, this alternate telling of events surrounding the French Revolution is very intriguing.

The ADV extras are cool, too. So many VA interviews  this the most extras-packed series I own.

So I take it you got one of the rare vol.5 I think it was with a slipcover. Not sure why ,but a lot of them did not have it.

Yep. As a little side note, I noticed that the Vol.5 artwork on my copy is not the same as the artwork on the picture shown on TRSI. Were there multiple releases? Maybe one with the slipcover, one without?

I think there may have been. I’m not sure since my singles were bought as they were coming out. Coffee may be able to tell since I believe he has had both.
