Parasyte -the maxim- / Kiseijū: Sei no Kakuritsu

Q. That teaser for Parasyte that you guys posted on youtube had English speaking news reporters on it. I’m wondering if you can say if much work has been done on the dub for the show already or not.‎

A. Right now, no. For the English reveal trailer, we actually gathered a few people from the office to be reporters. We had a male and female English speaker, a Spanish speaker and someone who spoke Vietnamese.

Q. Why isn’t Parasyte going to be dubbed? I think the show’s popularity grants it a dub don’t you think? Just wondering. Please notice me Sentai :stuck_out_tongue:

A. We never said it wouldn’t be dubbed! And for the record I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Isn’t Parasyte a shoo-in to be dubbed since Sentai is doing open auditions for its dub?

Q. Is there going to be a dub for Parasyte? Who do you think should voice Migi?
A. Yes, Parasyte will receive a dub in the future. Oooooh, Migi is gunna be a tough one to cast, don’t you think?

Creepy dish to be served up at Tokyo meat festival

Taking cues from the parasitic Migi from the recent anime Parasyte -the maxim- anime series, these one-eyed meatballs are being served up in Tokyo later in the month. Not to worry, though, they’re not alien parasites; they’re 100% Japanese beef. Cooked in a rich demi-glace, they actually look pretty yummy. Takashi Yamazaki, director of the Parasyte live-action movie, certainly thought so. “Although I was stunned to see them, I was surprised to find they were unexpectedly tasty,” he said. “Anyone who likes Migi so much they want to eat him should definitely try this. Maybe you’ll gain new powers if you mingle with parasites!”

The “Migitballs” will be served at the Food Nations ~Niku Fes Tokyo Spring 2015~, a festival celebrating the meat of Japan’s various regions as well as foreign countries. The meat in the meatballs, for instance, comes from the black cattle of Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu. The festival will be held from April 24 to 29 in Komazawa Olympic Park in Tokyo and then from May 1 to 6 in Le Soleil in Yokosuka and from May 1 to 10 at Aeon Mall Makuhari New City in Chiba. A plate of Migitballs will cost 1,400 yen ($12). The second part of the Parasyte movie premieres on April 25.

Ghibli’s Suzuki: We Wanted to Adapt the Parasyte Manga

posted on 2015-04-20 13:00 EDT by Lynzee Lamb

Retired Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki revealed in a TokyoFM podcast with Genki Kawamura on April 13 that both he and Hayao Miyazaki were at one time interested in adapting Hitoshi Iwaaki’s Parasyte manga at Ghibli. However, at the time the rights to an adaptation were held by U.S. film production company New Line Cinema.

Don Murphy’s Angry Films first announced a live-action/CGI Hollywood adaptation of Parasyte was in the works in 1999 with Matt Manfredi and Phil Hey writing the script and Jim Henson Pictures producing. Director Takashi Shimizu was added to the project when it moved to New Line Cinema, but ultimately it never manifested. In the mean time, Ghibli moved on to other projects.

Suzuki commented that the themes of Parasyte are in line with Ghibli’s own sensibilities and that Miyazaki was even a fan. Kawamura commented that Parasyte and Nausicaä have some similarities, and Suzuki agreed.

The rights to the series returned to Japan and the series has experienced a sort of renaissance despite the manga ending over a decade ago. Madhouse animated the recently completed 24-episode anime series and Genki Kawamura is directing two live-action films. Kodansha Comics reprinted the manga series in North America as well.
