Errrr…I take it that you’re referring to Persona 4: The Animation since you posted that here. Unfortunately I can’t read Japanese so when I took a look at the link I wasn’t sure which anime it was referring to.
This one will afect TAN, because it’s directly affecting the production of a show that TAN is running (assuming it’s about P4 since it’s here). This could be a very bad thing, or it could give another studio a chance to do a longer, more thorough, series based on P4.
As some said over in that thread at ANN it could very well be an animator that got fired and holds a grudge. Would not be the first time tweeting fired people caused trouble.
Geez I hope French anime companies get their rights taken away for a few months and get ridiculed nonstop over this, you know like what happened to the American companies, somehow I get the feeling France will be coddled, like with Fractale.

You should get a translating notice at the top of the screen to translate to English. I know Google Chrome does that at least.
Pardon me for preferring to use my desktop, which runs Linux, with Mozilla Firefox as the keyboard is easier to use, I have more vertical screen space (less horizontal though), and takes less time to wake up and get started checking things. Also, I don’t watch for translation notices, if I can’t read the language, or at least enough of it to have a rough idea what I’m looking at, then I’m not bothering with the page. Of course, if I had the money I’d have some JLPT study guides and be learning Japanese, as at least my desktop doesn’t have complaints about displaying it, unlike my laptop, which runs Windows Vista.

Well, aside from throwing the bit with the Velvet Room at the start they did a good job of following with the game this time. The only complaint I have is that they didn’t use the song from the introduction in the first ep as the opening animation song. I’d say that the ‘rumors’ we heard that this episode was going to be bad were just that, rumors. Although, from the pace they’re currently taking I’d say that they’re only planning on covering about half to two-thirds of the game, which would leave the ending undefined (although, depending on how you want to split hairs on it the game did have a canon, or more accurately, best, ending).
Now for the strategy guides intro of Yosuke’s Persona, Jiraiya:
“The folk hero Jiraiya and the early serial novel about him, Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari, was the source of many modern myths of the ninja, and particularly the asociation of ninjas and frogs. Jiraya mastered the frog’s magic, and could use that power to turn into an enormous frog himself. Yosuke’s Jiraiya has something of a frog and a ninja’s shape about him, as well as a hero’s scarf, but his flashy jumpsuit reflects nothing so much as Yosuke’s love of music.”
Well, there’s one more line: “Watch him carefully in comat and you’ll see he spends the entire fight grooving to the beat.” but I don’t think that’s going to apply much to the anime, since they used the time during the fight for the story dialog needed to keep things moving along good.
Well, that’s all that I have to say at present, so I’ll stop around to observe the discussion later.
Actually, I see nothing to believe with the current pace they couldn’t cover the whole game in 25 episodes. One important boss for every two episodes could be done and it would still work. There is about 20 bosses in the game, if they do one an episode, which I think they probably will, then it will be fine. That number includes the mini bosses also which they could just very well cut if time was really an issue. Except for a couple the only bosses that matter, story wise, are the ones at the end of the dungeon. They could go for the normal ending but they should have plenty of time for the true ending. It’s not like there would be much different episode wise, probably a few episodes at best.
As for the line about him grooving to the beat, I think that’s about Yosuke since you can seen him listening to music in battle, if we’ll see that or not is anyone’s guess. It’s not like you can’t listen to music and talk at the same time. Have to wait till the next episode to see how Yosuke in shown in battle, though.
Anyway, thought the episode itself was fantastic. Very happy with it and a great improvement over the first. Yu talking was good. Also liked how the battle was handled, for the most part. More focus on the characters rather then the fight itself gives it a take that sets it apart from the game. Of course Yosuke happens to be my favorite character so seeing his battle get more attention is nice in and of itself.
From what it looks like, the Personas will be doing all the fighting. In the game, everyone had a weapon; Swords, Knives, Feet, Fans, etc. However, so far nobody has brought any weapons with them. In all likelihood they may not participate in the fights at all other than summoning their Persona to battle.
I’m sort of curious how they’re going to do the dungeons. If the preview is accurate, they should be heading to Yukiko’s Castle in the next episode. The first dungeon is where the game started to get a little strange story wise, what with Shadow Yukiko being so… interesting.
On a spoiler-free note… did anyone notice that Yu’s courage has increased a little bit?
The reason I say that they won’t make it is because we’re two episodes in and they’ve only made it through 4/15. There are at least two significant story plot points in Yukiko’s Castle, and that’s if you focus on just when Chie and Yukiko get there Personas. We’re not including the dialog around when they first suspect Yukiko has disappeared, hunting for her, or the fight against the Avenging Knight, which is important to the core story, mostly because it so distinctly shows that unless they work together they don’t have a chance against the big bosses. And don’t forget the post-rescue dialog or the other miscellaneous events over the rest of the month. They’ll probably skip over most of the month, as once you have Yukiko rescued there’s very little in the way of core story content, but if every significant fight gets it’s own ep we’re going to get pressed to handle the story events in-between. Now, if they do the entirety of Yukiko’s Castle in the next ep then they might still make it.
They did a very thorough job covering things in ep 2, but it’s the light coverage aspect needed to reliably cover the majority of the game. Unless they pick the pace back up they’re not going to get a decent degree of coverage, as P3 and P4 are more about the Social Links and if they don’t cover them since they’ve brought out the Velvet Key they’re going to have a lot of extra PO’d fans. Now if they focus on the major S.Link events (Rank 1 & 10 events, and if there are any that especially stand out in the middle those as well if possible) while fitting in the main story elements and getting the story bosses covered (although, Avenging Knight is the only one I feel is really necessary to show off) they can still make it do a great job with the full story length of the game.
Yeah, I noticed his courage increased. It’s a bit early for the increase, which is why I noticed, but I saw it.
This is actually my 1st proper experience of the Persona 4 story. This isn’t counting things friends have told me, parodies, or the occasional Wikia info. I have to say I’m really enjoying it. I dig the dark, atmospheric animation, music, and characters. The world building is also done quite well.
As for fitting it all into the number of episodes known, well, it could always have 2 seasons, so it never has to feel rushed at all.
The reason it’s only gone that far is because it just started. They have to do a lot of setup. That’s what the first episode was all about. The second was the first boss. The third will probably be the 2nd boss, 4th episode will be the 3rd boss and so on. Like I said, there are only 13 bosses necessary to the plot and two of them are actually the final one. 25 episodes is more than enough. Things will pick up a great deal once we get into the one dungeon a month thing. They could easily do one episode of story, one episode with more story and a boss thrown in (like the 2nd), and keep doing that to the end.
Avenging Knight may be somewhat important but they could very well just cut it if time was really an issue. He wasn’t a story boss, just a mini boss. The only reason they made a big deal about it in the game was because it was the first mid-dungeon mini boss. It’s not needed plot wise. They could just as easily have them learn how working together is important in the Shadow Yukiko battle.
As for needing to do all of the castle in one episode, it isn’t. Already went over this but will again. There are twice as many episodes as bosses. They could give an entire episode to each one and still have 12 episodes or so for anything in between. More than enough time.
A lot of time sinks that were present in the game are going to be a non issue in the anime. Leveling up, Persona Fusion, and Social Links to name a few. Sure, they may have some of it but it will be tiny compared to how it was in the game. There’s a reason that you can spend 80 hours, or even over 100, and someone can do it in 15. They cut out all the extra stuff and only do what’s needed.
As for S.Links, I don’t know what will be done with them but as my last paragraph implied I don’t think much will. I suspect a handful might be translated into story-like events but beyond that I’m not expecting much. As important as they may or may not be most of them aren’t necessary to the story. A lot of them are subjective as well. The whole friend or girlfriend path with the girls, for example. They could very well make a lot of fans mad by picking the wrong choices. Regardless, none of the S.Link events are very long so some could be thrown in and it wouldn’t make much difference time wise.
As I said before, Avenging Knight is important more because it really forced on the heroes the need to work together to handle the enemies. Story importance is minor, it was the helping them to become a group importance that mattered. Also, doing a boss every other ep would actually risk running an ep long, although that’s about what I’d expected it to run initially, but they’ve disrupted their setting establishment balance with they way they’re focusing on differing parts. The only thing they’ve really done well is how the handled the Shadow Yosuke fight, as they really did a great job of balancing that out.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but depending on how much you rush Yukiko’s Castle there’s either a pile of story segments between the Shadow Chie battle and the Shadow Yukiko battler or there’s hardly any at all.

First, his Knowledge and Understanding are up (big surprise since he was folding Origami Cranes, although in the game you needed a Diligence of Persistent for that part-time job). Second, only on a second cycle (aka. New Game +) could you have Pyro Jack for the fight against Shadow Chie. Third, you didn’t get most of the fancy scenes for when Chie ran off by herself. I noticed that they showed them fighting a few Trance Twins getting to Chie (in the game you don’t encounter them until a little later, but not much), although it was a bit strange to see the Slipping Hableries make a comeback, as they don’t appear again after their introductory battle in the game. I did like how they used the All Out Attack opening bit for when the unleashed their finishing gambit against Shadow Chie. Over all I rather liked the ep. Oh! I also noticed that when Yosuke summoned Jiraiya they had him use the same ‘spinning’ strike against the card that happens in the game, which is kinds surprising since they aren’t carrying weapons with them.
Now for the introduction of Chie’s Persona, Tomoe:
“Tomoe Gozen was one of the many samurai depicted in the pseudo-historical Tale of the Heike, the fictionalized chronicle of the very real Genpei Wars. She is one of a small handful of female samurai recorded in Japanese folklore, and she was not merely equal to her male counterparts but exceeded them in every way when it came to strength, valor, and fierceness. She was even renowned for her beauty wearing armor. She was both wife and general to Minamoto no Yoshinaka, but it is said that even he was uncertain whether he loved her as a woman, or merely as a formidable asset to his army.”
Sigh, if she was only 10 years older right now and real instead of a fictional character, I might consider dating again just to make a try at her. But my type is just that, fictional, so all I’m going to be doing is observing and wishing.
Getting back towards topic (I think there is one in here, somewhere), it is nice seeing the level of detail they’re putting towards some of it, and apparently they’re skipping over the Persona Fusion system in favor of allowing him to just call on any (or nearly any) Persona of an Arcana that he has established the Social Link for. It’s a strange quirk, but I guess it works with the basis of an anime instead of a game, maybe. I’m not quite sure how they’re going to handle the Special Fusion Personas that require maxing a Social Link to create, but it should get interesting at least. I guess if they drop anything having to do with Fusion (of the Shin Megami Tensei titles I’ve played, Digital Devil Saga (I haven’t started DDS2 yet) is the only one that doesn’t utilize a Fusion system) then maybe they can just show the Rank 10 Social Link events (that’s when you max a Social Link) and possibly still come out okay, but it’s still going to be a push.
That’s everything I have to say, so I’ll lean back and watch what little multi-cussion is going to happen at present happen.
Even though there’s a bit of deviation from the game, I enjoyed this episode. The way Chie obtains Tomoe was pretty cool, and by that I mean the entire encounter with Shadow Chie was great. The all out attack was also very nice. I’m sort of curious how Yu knew her weakness was fire though…
Also, at the end of the episode Chie mentions Yukiko’s demise should they not rescue her before the fog is lifted… but I don’t recall Teddie ever mentioning that to them like he does in the game.
@Razmoudah: Those are not Slipping Hableries. The Slipping Hablerie is PINK with black stripes. The enemies shown in this episode are WHITE with black stripes. Those are Lying Hableries.
Shadow Chies weakness is not fire its actually wind, and part of that is beacuse at that point in the game you still dont have access to any Personas besides Izanagi, the idea for beating her is using Yosuke to knock her down then all out attack.
