Spoiler
It looks like Tsukasa and Isla were up all night again. As they await the dawn, they read her diary together as they hold hands. The sun rises and Isla says it’s their last day. They clean the apartment, but get so dirty in the process, that they bathe together. That turns out to be a water war between them. After they dress, Isla takes one last look around the apartment. She leaves a note on the table and goes off to work with Tsukasa.
They are early, but begin the work day as usual. It was a little funny to see Tsukasa making the tea. Kazuki arrives early, having a feeling that they would be there. She takes away Isla’s ID and forces the couple to take the day off, even to the point of chasing them out of the office! It turns out that everyone came in early to check on the couple. They all wish they could have said goodbye and Kazuki just stares at Isla’s ID. And my waterworks have begun in earnest!
After they water the herbs, Tsukasa and Isla end up going to the amusement park. Tsukasa gives Isla a really fun day, but freezes a bit when he sees the sun begin to set. He recovers quickly and suggests to Isla that they go on more rides. She can see what he’s doing, but just aggress with him. A while later, the park lights come on and the sky is dark. Yet, they continue their date at the park and Isla notes that everyone there is smiling. By this time of the day, everyone has sad but contented smiles, as well as happy memories. An announcement is made that the park is closing.
Tsukasa looks devastated and doesn’t move. Holding his hand, Isla reminds him that the park is closing. She doesn’t look too happy as she reminds him again. Finding her resolve, she pulls Tsukasa along, saying “Let’s go” and gets permission to take Tsukasa on the ferris wheel.
It starts off as a very sad ride as Isla tells Tsukasa that she wishes she could have spent more time with him. A very sad Tsukasa agrees with her. Isla says that she wonders what Tsukasa will be doing in the future since she won’t be around to see him. Isla tries to keep the conversation going and tells Tsukasa that he will be fine. Tsukasa can hardly answer her and just stares at the floor.
Isla tells Tsukasa one thing she loves about him and forces him to say something that he loves about her. He says something and this goes back and forth for a little while until Isla say that Tsukasa holds back his tears and tries so hard to smile when he’s in pain. She tells him that this worries her. Tsukasa finally looks at her and says her name. She tells him that she had a good life and was very happy. She opens her closed hand to him to reveal a ring. Isla tells Tsukasa that it’s time for the dream to end. She tells him that she wants it to end here, on the ferris wheel, with him.
At the sight of the ring, Tsukasa’s eyes widen and he begins to get emotional. He reaches for Isla with tears running down his face. She takes his hand and tells him that it’s the first time he’s let her see him cry. She wipes his tears and thanks him for crying for her. She kisses him and then stretches his mouth into a smile. Isla gives him a sad smile and he returns it, still crying. Tsukasa puts the ring on Isla’s finger. He hugs her and I cry harder as he tells her that one day he hopes that she will be reunited with the one she cherishes. Isla cries as they share a final kiss.
Kazuki is waiting for them on the bench she used to share with Isla, holding her ID. Tsukasa walks over to her, carrying Isla. Kazuki says that Isla looks peaceful as she tucks the ID under Isla’s folded hands. With tears in his eyes, Tsukasa agrees with her. Kazuki puts her hand on his shoulder and tells him that he did a good job, “right up till the end”. Tsukasa loses it and falls to his knees, still holding Isla.
Now for the note Isla left him. In it, she tells Tsukasa that she has gone to “sleep”. She talks about her time with the Terminal Service and how wonderful everyone there is. It seems that everyone has received a note, where Isla thanks them, saying that she was happy and proud to work with them. And most everyone cries.
After the credits, Tsukasa returns to the office from a nine month training program. He’s reunited with all of his co-workers and is happy to be back with them. Then Tsukasa is introduced to his new partner, and shakes hands. The face isn’t seen, but I’d like to think it’s Isla with a new personality. That would be a nice ending. Well, for all the sadness, this was a wonderful anime. Nice music, good story, and great characters! Now if I could just stop crying……
