Poetry

Oh wheelchair of mine, how far will you roll?
far enough to grant me the ability to work a pole?
if pushed into a puddle I may drown
who would laugh at my funeral if not a clown?
all joking aside
I take my curse in stride…
but I can’t walk so I can’t stride…
so I guess I’ll have to roll* with glide.

I entered this poem and visual into a contest to see if I could get a scholarship, and regardless on however good or bad it was, I decided beforehand that once it was over I would show people what I made. Forget about how long it took me, it did not turn out too splendidly, and thus did not make it to the semi-finals. Since it is no longer in the running, I thought this was as good as the contest being over. ^-^;

I was going to write a poem about problems
But there seem to be enough of them,
So I thought I would make something up
To lift my mood as my words stem.

I could really use something to make me happy
So let’s give it out bestest try!
Maybe a love story that isn’t so sappy,
Or something with a clown and a pie.

I got it! Let’s make a story!
A good one too!
With plenty of rhymes and colors
A good one I bet you!

I hope others will join and lend their voice
So we can all share this feeling together,
It will be oh so much more fun this way
As we sing and mix and rhyme forever.

So now I will begin, ahem ahem;
Pardon me, I have some phlegm.

From time to time a star will fall to the land below
And light up the sky so bright, no one will know
That it is still night and they should be asleep,
But this is not a story about that, it’s about a sheep.

Well, a girl who wears sheep’s wool from her head to her toe,
But I digress, the girl is really like those who don’t know
That the star falling from above, turning night into day,
For she cannot tell which time it is any which way.

She cannot tell the moon from the sun,
Or the blue sky filled with bird’s fun.
She cannot tell the clouds from the stars,
Or the bats who hang upside-down on bars.

She lives with her mother and father too,
So I’m sure you know this news is not new;
Ever since birth she has slept and awoke
At anytime she would rise from her bed of oak.

I love your poems Tager. You are extremely eloquent.

yeah, and you talk good too

I believe inside is an instrument that,
Provided one knows were to look,
Will produce a full, wondrous vat
Of beauty they might have mistook.

And that leads me back to the girl of wool
Who, inside herself, also had such a great tool.

She always kept it at a slight lull
Regardless of if it were strong or dull.
It was her painting that, in a way
Melded all feelings from both night and day.

She painted the forests in grey or green,
Smoothing over the wet leave’s sheen;
She painted the hills that looked so bright
In light of the sun at day or moon at night;
She painted each flower with so much love
It looked as a garden from heaven above.

You could say she always knew the best path
Through any person’s fury or wrath,
Back to that brilliant place inside
Were their inner child would reside.

She would paint as long as the world would spin
Until she had released all her joy from within
Onto the canvas that she blessed with color
And made each one, red through green, alone seem duller.

Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love

From “Let America Be America Again” by Langston Hughes

I have not written a poem in a while
So I think I will start with a trail
To see if I will get back into a groove
Or if back to my other works I move.

This poetry thread is where it’s at.

No, for now I think I will retire
From this literature and just admire
The other things that people create
While my projects do escalate.

A Classic

One need not be a chamber to be haunted;
One need not be a house;
The brain has corridors surpassing
Material place.

~Emily Dickinson

When witches go riding,
and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,
'tis near Halloween.

~Author Unknown

From ghoulies and ghosties
And long-leggedy beasties
And things that go bump in the night,
Good Lord, deliver us!

~Scottish Saying

Of calling shapes, and beck’ning shadows dire,
And airy tongues that syllable men’s names.

~John Milton

Poem
By me

Thine is not in the hour,
Thine is in the every flower.
Twere not the very breath you take
Twere not a single sound you make
Twas but in a second glance
Twas when I began to dance.

My song has put off her adornments.
She has no pride of dress and decoration.
Ornaments would mar our union;
they would come between thee and me;
their jingling would drown thy whispers.

My poet’s vanity dies in shame before thy sight.
O master poet, I have sat down at thy feet.
Only let me make my life simple and straight,
like a flute of reed for thee to fill with music.

by RABINDRANATH TAGORE

Hobgoblins know the proper way to dance:
Arms akimbo, loopy legs askew,
Leaping into darkness with delight,
Lusting for the ecstasy of fright,
Open to the charm of horrors new…

~Nicholas Gordon

On Hallowe’en the thing you must do
Is pretend that nothing can frighten you
And if somethin’ scares you and you want to run
Just let on like it’s Hallowe’en fun.

~Author Unknown

Stir the fire till it lowe
How like a queen comes forth the lonely Moon
From the slow opening curtains of the clouds
Walking in beauty to her midnight throne!

~George Croly

'Tis the night - the night
Of the grave’s delight,
And the warlocks are at their play;
Ye think that without
The wild winds shout,
But no, it is they - it is they.

~Arthur Cleveland Coxe

Men say that in this midnight hour,
The disembodièd have power
To wander as it liketh them,
By wizard oak and fairy stream.

~William Motherwell

You wouldn’t believe
On All Hallow Eve
What lots of fun we can make,
With apples to bob,
And nuts on the hob,
And a ring-and-thimble cake.

~Carolyn Wells

Backward, turn backward,
O Time, in your flight
make me a child again
just for to-night!

~Elizabeth Akers Allen

On Halloween, witches come true;
Wild ghosts escape from dreams.
Each monster dances in the park…

~Nicholas Gordon

Since I love twisting lyrics, here’s one I twisted to fit me.
I’ll post the song too, so you can listen to it while reading my lyrics.

[b][b][color=#9900cc]I am The Coffee God - Coming from Caffeineland
I am The Coffee God - Coming from Caffeineland!

I wish that you were my Coffee God
Sweet thing, I will never get enough
If you show me to the Valdez tree,
will you give me coffee for free?

Come with me Honey,
I’m your sugar sweetened Coffee God
Run like the wind - fly with me to Caffeineland
Drink me, I’m yours - if you’re thirsty please understand
This is the end - of the sugar sweetened Coffee God

Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - your word is my command
Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - let us fly to Caffeineland

You are my Coffee God - sugar sugar topped
You are my Coffee God - sugar sugar topped

I wish that I were your Vanilla, Yum
sipping on me, baby, all day long
I will be begging for sweet delight,
until you say I’m yours tonight

Come with me Honey,
I’m your sugar sweetened Coffee God
Run like the wind - fly with me to Caffeineland
Drink me, I’m yours - if you’re thirsty please understand
This is the end - of the sugar sweetened Coffee God

Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - your word is my command
Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - let us fly to Caffeineland

Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - your word is my command
Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - let us fly to Caffeineland

I am The Coffee God - Coming from Caffeineland
I am The Coffee God - Coming from Caffeineland!

Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - your word is my command
Oh my love - I know you are The Coffee God
And oh my love - let us fly to Caffeineland

New Beginnings

It’s only the beginning now
…a pathway yet unknown
At times the sound of other steps
…sometimes we walk alone

The best beginnings of our lives
May sometimes end in sorrow
But even on our darkest days
The sun will shine tomorrow.

So we must do our very best
Whatever life may bring
And look beyond the winter chill
To smell the breath of spring.

Into each life will always come
A time to start anew
A new beginning for each heart
As fresh as morning dew.

Although the cares of life are great
And heads are bowed so low
The storms of life will leave behind
The wonder of a rainbow.

The years will never take away
Our chance to start anew
It’s only the beginning now
So dreams can still come true.
