Queen's Blade / Rurō no Senshi

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion, Ep 6 (Sub) is live at ANO

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion, Ep 7 (Sub) is live at ANO

I’ve finally finished The Evil Eye, now to attempt to get caught up on Rebellion at some point. I’ll probably work on doing that over the next week or so. Too bad the Beautiful Fighters OVA isn’t legitly available somewhere, I’d love some explanation of how things get from the end of The Evil Eye to the start of Rebellion, as it’s Leina who won that Queen’s Blade competition, and Ymir doesn’t have that almost evil streak in her either.

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion, Ep 8 (Sub) is live at ANO

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion, Ep 9 (Sub) is live at ANO

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion, Ep 10 (Sub) is live at ANO

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion, Ep 11 (Sub) is live at ANO

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion, Ep 12 :end: (Sub) is live at ANO

Looking forward to owning this show next year (hope there’s another season).

I’ve read some posts that Sentai determines what to dub based on:

  • if it will sell well enough to justify the cost
  • the number of characters (VAs needed) & lines
  • streaming numbers

etc

As far as I know Queen’s Blade season 1 & 2 sold well for Media Blasters so I think it’s safe to assume Rebellion will sell well too (especially since some fans want to legally watch the uncensored episodes)

So I’d be very surprised if this didn’t get a dub.

Besides a few returning characters from the original series I don’t see the point of outsourcing the dub to Headline in New York.

Sure there were some good performances (e.g. Lisa Ortiz, Jessica Calvello) but IMO Seraphim Digital’s talent pool has better VAs.

My only concern with the dub is the number of female characters.

When I counted all significant characters in Rebellion I got 21

Annalotte
Huit
Vante (any point of dubbing this character?)
Shigi
Luna Luna
Mirim
Tarnyang
Sainyang
Claudette
Elina
Maria A.K.A. Leina
Ymir
Eilin
Aldra
Branwen
Liliana
Risty
Melona
Lyla
Izumi
Alleyne (if Sentai can somehow miraculously license the OVAs that were bundled with the Visual Books)

And that’s not including all the characters in the “Beautiful Fighters” OVA Series if Sentai does license that in the future.

I count 12 more significant female characters.

Echidna
Nowa
Nyx
Airi
Cattleya
Menace
Nanael
Melpha
Hachael
Head Angel
Tomoe
Shizuka

Combine the number of significant female characters in Rebellion and Beautiful Fighters and that’s 33.

Does Seraphim Digital’s talent pool even have 33 different voice actresses?

These are probably the most well known & used voice actresses in Sentai dubs (2010-present)

Allison Keith (ef: a tale of melodies, Book of Bantorra, Infinite Stratos)
Allison Sumrall (Appleseed re-dub, Book of Bantorra, ef: a tale of memories)
Bree Welch (Princess Resurrection, Clannad, Dream Eater Merry)
Brittney Karbowski (High School of the Dead, Angel Beats, Night Raid 1931)
Carli Mosier (ef: a tale of melodies, Night Raid 1931, Needless)
Cynthia Martinez (Book of Bantorra, Infinite Stratos, World God Only Knows II)
Elizabeth Bunch (Guin Saga, Clannad franchise, Needless)
Emily Neves (Angel Beats, Clannad franchise, Legends of the Dark King)
Hannah Alcorn (Tears to Tiara)
Hilary Haag (Mardock Scramble, Clannad franchise, Angel Beats)
Jessica Boone (High School of the Dead, World God Only Knows II, Canaan)
Kara Greenberg (Clannad franchise, Blue Drop, Ghost Hound)
Kaytha Coker (Clannad franchise, Canaan, Xam’d Lost Memories)
Kelly Manison (Blue Drop)
Lesley Tesh Pedersen (Needless, Canaan, No. 6)
Luci Christian (World God Only Knows, Needless, Appleseed re-dub)
Maggie Flecknoe (High School of the Dead, Clannad franchise, Demon King Daimao)
Melissa Davis (Demon King Daimao, Angel Beats, High School of the Dead)
Monica Rial (ef: a tale of memories, High School of the Dead, Infinite Stratos)
Rozie Curtis (Samurai Girls, Needless, Clannad)
Serena Varghese (Clannad franchise, Canaan, The World Hod Only Knows) *but from what I heard she moved to L.A.
Shannon Emerick (Book of Bantorra, Infinite Stratos, Dream Eater Merry)
Shelley Calene-Black (Canaan, Book of Bantorra, Clannad franchise)
Stephanie Wittels (Clannad franchise, Demon King Daimao, Xam’d Lost Memories)
Taylor Hannah (High School of the Dead, Guin Saga, Needless) *heard she lives in L.A. now too
Tiffany Grant (Infinite Stratos, Tears to Tiara, Five Numbers)

That’s only 26… and that’s if they all even agree to work on this show. Some of them managed with Samurai Girls (but they did use aliases)… Wouldn’t be surprised if only a small amount of voice actresses had a higher tolerance for anime nudity than others who might be too embarrassed

I suppose some multi-casting is inevitable but I’m hoping that maybe some former ADV Films regulars will return to Sentai dubs since this franchise is so massive.

Alice Fulks (lives in L.A. but never say never)
Christine Auten
Emily Carter Essex
Kira Vincent-Davis
Larissa Wolcott
Nancy Novotny
Sasha Paysinger

It also couldn’t hurt for Sentai to maybe “draft” some Funimation talent (funny huh? usually it’s the other way around)

I’m not suggesting VAs like Colleen Clinkenbeard or Cherami Leigh (even though they are good) I wouldn’t want them “conquering” every lead role in every Texas dub… Plus they’re probably too busy at Funimation anyways to drive down to Houston from Dallas.

I was thinking maybe the following since they’re not as overexposed at Funimation and based on past history they have no issue working on fanservice shows.

*Jamie Marchi (Sekirei, Freezing, Rosario+Vampire)
*Leah Clark (Sekirei, Freezing, Rosario+Vampire)
*Lydia Mackay (Sekirei, Freezing, Rosario+Vampire)

I know it’s probably not very likely since if any of them were interested in working for both Funimation & Sentai like Luci Christian or Monica Rial, they’d probably have done it and auditioned long ago.

Being a dub fan and a big Queen’s Blade fan I’d like the Rebellion dub to be the best it could possibly be.

Since Japan cast several “all-star” female voice actresses, why not the English dub too?

In recent years I’ve been glad to see some Seraphim Digital VAs working for Funimation (e.g. Shelley Calene-Black, David Wald) it would be kind of cool to see a few FUNi VAs (like the 3 I suggested) pop up in Sentai dubs every now and then too. B)

Looks like Sentai outsourced to NYAV Post for dub continuity.

I was expecting as much, but confirmation is good. It’s great that Sentai is always consistent with such things. The dub were actually done by Headline, but NYAV should be able of reunite most of the cast.

Yeah, now that’s what I’m saying. More soundtracks is always a good thing. A way better extra than useless swag like postcards or just a chipboard/artbox…for me at least.

Guin Saga/Intrigue ost were are ya? :frowning:

I mentioned this before in the AKB0048 thread, but I’ll post it here as well since you’re asking.

So far, the only series to get soundtracks included have all been Media Factory titles.
Intrigue in the Bakumatsu was licensed from Sunrise/Bandai
Guin Saga was licensed from Aniplex

So the chances of either getting a soundtrack inclusion is slim.
Especially since both were already released without them.

Interesting.
It looks like the included omake are getting dubbed as well.

The Fandom Post

Wow, how did I miss that this is getting a dub? That has to be hilarious.

I wonder if the “Sentai Magic” will affect NYAV and get them to produce a better-than-normal dub for this. I can hope as it happened with some of Sentai’s Bang/Zoom dubs (Their Persona 4 vs Fate/Zero…'nuff said).

I feel better that y’all didn’t post about how Sentai is pulling a Funimation and delaying this release, which is unprecedented.

http://www.fandompost.com/2013/05/23/sentai-filmworks-delays-queens-blade-rebellion/

I’m wondering if there have may been a delay in the dubbing process at NYAV, or perhaps there was some hold up in the materials for the extras or the soundtracks. As long as they don’t make a habit of delaying titles like Media Blasters, Funimation, and even Nozomi, I guess this isn’t that big of a deal.

I’m willing to bet that Sentai’s QC is on high alert right now.

So, perhaps the sample run wasn’t where it needed to be for whatever reason and it’s do-over time.

Mark Gosdin

I was wondering about that too, but two months seems a little long for some QC correction. Although since Sentai is a much smaller company, it may take much longer for them to secure a print run.
