That’s like one of the best parts just for the song alone.
You and I are pretty much the only ones here that hold great importance over that element consistently, to most it’s just background stuff. PP too, but he’s not as rabid as we are, lol.
How can you not like a song called Ultimate Destiny Apocalypse (The song that plays when she goes up to the dueling Arena. On the CD it’s called The Revelation of Absolute Destiny)

I just saw the 2nd episode. I like the story so far. As with some of you, I am not crazy about the shadow girls or the staircase.
However, I really love the music. Reminds me a bit of Carmina Burana, which I absolutely love. It is worth watching for that alone.
But I kinda wish they had not translated the lyrics. That whole history of life thing - DNA, bacteria, Cambrian, Triassic, whales, trilobites, etc. When they started with all that “of the sea” part, I was almost expecting a “chicken of the sea” in there somewhere. Although the music was well matched, those lyrics really distracted me from the duel.
Otherwise, I am anxious to see what happens next and to hear more of the soundtrack!

Honestly what did you guys think of the dub? I’m truly tired of people trashing this. It’s not one of CPM’s better dubs, but it’s not horrible, by any means. It’s an older, and longer running series. One must take that into consideration while judgeing the dub. And I felt it a decent dub. Not too good, but I liked it. Totally still don’t like Rachael Lillis as the lead (depsite loving her in almost everything else). She’s very miscast. But the other actors were good. And she does a great job, but she is just SO not Utena, in any way.
Also will the entire series but up for regular members one day? I so want to see the entire thing.
I have no problem with the dub and none of the voices bug me.

There are definitely some weak spots in the dub, mainly some of the side characters. The main leads are all pretty decent though, and I even like Utena’s voice. This dub certainly can’t compete with what ADV was putting out at the time, but it’s pretty on par with most New York dubs at the time.
Never know, but I wouldn’t expect it, given I doubt Enoki would want it available for free. They and Anime Network have to make money somehow. 
This is a boutique type license and will probably be one of Anime Network’s most guarded properties given the attention it’s gotten and its unique license nature.
That and the strong possibility that we may never see this on DVD in R1 again… 
Well ADV dubs are the highest quailty dubs around, for whatever time we’re talking about. So you can’t compare Utena with something ADV did silly . But your right, as far as NYC dubs go around this time, it’s about average. Not at all terrible. There are some weak spots, I agree. But come on this anime is 39 episodes long, so you gatta give some leeway. People are ready to crucify the dub…
I think I agree with you opinion though. It has some definite weak spots, and a spotty actor or two. But people treat it like a 4kids screw up. And it’s not. It’s a decent dub at least.
Dragoon: Awww…what a disapointment. I know TAN has to make some money, but I would like to watch this show one day. I only have the first 2 dvds. I’m not sure if it’s worth tracking down all of them…but perhaps it will be. It looks like this show may never be saved.
Could ask your parents for a gift subscription to the OP or wait for one of the free Events I guess? But then the latter will only signal to Enoki, Anime Network, production companies not to bother further with Utena. 
I think I know the reason why its not been rescued yet it still shows up online ,but the few people I’ve asked won’t say for sure so its best not mentioned. Yeah though while I’d expect this before say something like Sailor Moon I’d say Card Captor Sakura has a better chance of getting re-licensed and dubbed before Utena gets rescued for DVD again.
There have been some industry insiders that have said there are multiple issues holding up Utena, and that just about everyone has tried to pick it back up with no luck. Even CPM had serious issues with this title back when the acquired it the first time. I’m not too optimistic about it. If it weren’t for Enoki having TV and digital rights, most people wouldn’t be able to watch it now.
LOL a gift subscription here? I’d love that Dragoon, but my parents are huge believers of the idea that when you spend money you need to get something physical in return. Also they think I spend way too much on anime as it is. I highly doubt they’d even consider it. It’s not worth the hassle of trying to explain it/bringing it up at all. As for the free events, well I doubt I could watch 39 episodes in a couple of days lol! Well less then 39, I have the first 2 DVDs. I’d need to watch the episodes I don’t own.
Guess I’m better off buying the OOP DVDs from CPM then. I have acess to them. Thanks for the help though man.
Cody: Yeah Sevakis keeps saying there are licenseing problems with Utena otherise it would already be saved. And your right CPM had a lot of troubles getting the rights to the latter portain of the show on DVD, despite alreayd having the license and everything in order. They had to renegotiate the rights with the Japanese, which took years. And by the time they finished, and got the rest of it out on DVD, it didn’t sell nearly as much as it was originally. It was kind of a hit for them at first, but the DVD sales of the latter part of the show were not as good. So I’m guessing they didn’t print much of those DVDs, and that may be why they are getting rarer and rarer.
I don’t have a problem with the dub, but I’m glad the Black Rose story is over. It was getting a little weird, but I liked how it ended.
I am looking forward to see what will happen now -

Funny how Anthy, Utena and Nanami have become the “shadow girls” in this episode. Also, interesting that Nanami’s most devoted fan keeps a diary listing her dirty deeds as well as his secret fantasies – a very appealing way to recap some of the series so far.

He wasn’t necessarily keeping a diary with her dirty deeds, that part was her ‘dream’, however, he was keeping something in his diary, we just don’t know what it was exactly.
Going back to the previous arc, I must say I was a little bit disappointed that the whole ‘Black Rose’ thing was an illusion, it was, on the whole, really interesting.
And, by the way, what’s the deal with Anthy’s brother? Is he more than a brother? I guess we’ll find out next episode when they move in with him. This is getting very freaky.

Perhaps it was all in her dream, but I wouldn’t put it past Mitsuru to actually keep a diary like that!
And I think Akio is definitely a “lover” type. There does seem to be some incest going on there with his sister as suggested in an earlier episode. It also looks like he is very fond of Utena. And doesn’t he still have a girlfriend too? I think this guy is a real playboy! Can’t wait to see where this goes.
