One of our plans for the night involves a game called Spooky Tales. In the game, everyone gets a set of actions, events, people, and things, as well as a unique ending. Everyone gets the same beginning to start, then the idea of the game is to use your set of words the fastest in a scary, or funny story.
Here’s a break down of the rules:
Everyone will be given a unique set of words to use, so you must sign up in advance by contacting me via PM. I will have everything sent to you sometime Friday evening, so you have time to look over your phrases. The deadline for entry is 4pm Friday afternoon.
Everyone gets the same beginning to the story. You cannot rewrite or change the beginning.
After the beginning is revealed, we will go in order of who signed up first, with each person using one of their phrases or words.
After the first round, it’s free for all. Whoever posts first, gets the glory. If someone beats you to the punch, you will have to edit or erase your post and try again.
Each post can be as long or as short as you want, as long as it is at least one coherent sentence. But you can only use one phrase per post.
You cannot post twice in a row. Once you post, you must wait for someone else to do so, before you can post again.
You must bold the phrase from your list as you use it. This will help me keep track of everyone’s list, and ensure no one is cheating!
Each post must be consistent with the already existing story. For instance, if the main character is lost in a dark cave, you can’t have them all of a sudden shopping at Kmart. The story must continue in a coherent fashion, and you must find a way for your phrases to reflect that and match up with what is already written.
Once you have used all your phrases, actions, and events, you may place your ending at any time. However, just like the phrases, you must find a way for it to fit with the story.
Each phrase much be directly related to the post before it. For instance, if the prior post said she was walking through the dark cave, and you have the word “Bats”, you could type “The cave was infested with bats, who flew around her head, frightening her.”
If at any point, your post addition to the story is offensive, inappropriate, doesn’t make any sense, is incomplete, or just doesn’t fit with the story, the other players may call shenanigans. At this point, the overseer (ME) will review the entry and determine if it will be allowed or not. If I agree with the other players, you will have to edit your post and try again.
No adult material, or offensive language. Just like the normal forum rules here. Remember, this is a public forum and is accessible by children, so keep it clean.

A few notes:
The deadline for entry is 4pm on Friday, October 30th.
You will receive your list of phrases and your ending by 11pm Friday the 30th.
There are two planned sessions. The first will occur at approximately 12:00am EST on the 31st (the official start of Halloween!) The second will occur between 9 and 10pm on the 31st.
You will be given a set of phrases for each session, but you may choose to only participate in one.
This is designed to be fun, so let your imagination run wild.

I can’t be here for it, though, as I’m trekking Acadia National Park, then studying for, what… three exams next week? Sh*t.

I’ve wanted to visit Acadia National Park for sometime. I’ve heard it’s beautiful there.
And I had planned to dress as a vampire chef for Halloween, picked out the teeth, chef hat, jacket, everything, but I have nowhere to wear it to now. So there’s no point in bothering. I have a nice selection of avatars lined up though!

She walked out of her house on a cold, dark Autumn night. The moon was full, but most of it’s light was blocked by black storm clouds. Lightning strikes off in the distance, and lights up her front yard momentarily. She thinks she sees a tall, dark form standing on the grass. She strains you eyes, trying to make it out. Another bolt of lightning strikes, and for just a second, She sees a tall man in a trench coat. Through the short burst of light, it looked as though he were smiling sinisterly at her. The lightning strikes again and she sees the man walking towards her, licking his lips.

The skies opened, and it began to rain. A sudden burst of lightning showed the man to be holding a HATCHET. She didn’t know what to do.
