Sentai Filmworks license announcement @ AX 2015

Sentai Filmworks Press Release

July 9, 2015

I started checking this out from the existing sources. I guess I can stop now. Hopefully there’ll be a dub for this as the Japanese voice acting is definitely a product of its time.

The sheer volume of episodes ( 110 ) argues against attempting an English dub. That said, I too would like to see one done. We can but hope for it to be successful enough to justify one.

If there are no HD assets available, have they thought about doing an SD Blu-Ray release? (like 30+ Eps an a BD 50? It would be doable if there is no dub with it.

You mean if Sentai couldn’t get the HD assets at all even though Japan got a BD release recently?

Didn’t realize there was a BD release of the show recently…

How HD is the bluray?

From what I’ve seen of it, it looks crisp but there are some anomalies so I’m wondering if that’s due to upscaling, the way I’ve seen the bluray video or if the HD is just exposing a lack of art/animation detail that was obscured in the original broadcast (kinda the opposite of live-action blurays lol), or some combination of the 3.

Q. So what’s the deal with your Legend of the Galactic Heroes announcement? Streaming? Physical? Bilingual? Sub-only? I need some foppery and whim soon.‎

A. Bless you, you golden lion, for using the phrase “foppery and whim.”

Details such as these are a little tricky to tack down right now, actually. If you were not aware (although I’m sure you are if you’re into LOGH) this particular series comprises 110 OVAs. That’s right: OVAs, not episodes, meaning that each one is roughly an hour long. That equates to a TON of work on our side. In order to make this the best possible release (dare I say, definitive release?), we are taking care to comb over everything we get with a fine toothed comb to ensure quality. So right now the focus is on ensuring that quality. I assure you, however, that a release date and other details will come. Thanks!

Q. What are the chances of The Legend of the Galactic Heroes coming out this spring?

A. Setting a solid release date for LOGH is a little hard right now, even if we’re talking quarters, like Spring, Fall, etc. Our amazing production team is working their butts off to get the project finished, but as you know, Legends is quite a hefty show. We’re talking more than 100 episodes, so a solid date announcement at this moment would be tough to do. Thanks!

Q. NOT LONG AGO, YOU PICKED UP THE LICENSE TO LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES. I WAS WONDERING IF, IN ADDITION TO THE HOME VIDEO RIGHTS, YOU ALSO PICKED UP STREAMING RIGHTS. I REALIZE THAT 110 EPISODES IS A BIT DAUNTING TO TRANSLATE, SO I UNDERSTAND WHY IT’S NOT OUT YET. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT WILL BE ON A LEGAL STREAMING SITE IN THE FUTURE, LIKE SOME OTHER TITLES YOU OWN.

A. It will be available through select digital outlets like we mentioned here. As far as when, the future is a solid possibility. If only Kircheis were here.

Q. What’s the progress so far on LOGH?

A. It is progressing in a way that only a work in progress can progress.

Q. Any news on when to expect The Legend of the Galactic Heroes? Very excited for this release.

A. You can expect The Legend of the Galactic Heroes… sometime in the future. In a time that is neither right now, nor before now, but some time in the now that is not the immediate now. We thank you for your excitement, but still nothing to report at this time. At this now.

How very Spaceballs of them

“When will then be now? Soon.”

Q. When will we hear something about Legends of the Galactic Heroes? It’s been a year since it was announced for release but since then nothing. I know it’s a massive series that requires a lot of work but an update of some kind would be appreciated.

A. That’s pretty much where we’re at. It’s a HUGE project, and we have our best people working on in as we speak. We want to give this title the love and due diligence that it deserves, so thank you for your patience.
