Thanx for the intel… I have to admit that I am not as well versed in all this as much as some of you guys are. However, I will try to be a quick learner for ya’… Ha! Friggin’ noobs… I cannot believe that I am counting myself amoung them! Anyway, thank you again, and I understand that it is a slow process. I will keep an eye on the VOD content schedule for pointers to when something like this will be coming my and our way.
Ha! BTW… oh VOD! How I miss thou… to someday I shall get back thee.
Also, just a thought… I am not trying to stray too far off topic here. As I was reading the post that The Coffee God gave link to regarding TWOGK OVAs…
It is sad that dub work tends to be rare in regards to OVA releases. I understand the reasons why, however even though it is an OVA I still consider it part of a series’ story as a whole. Even though it is released separate from the main series, it is still sad that good entertainment has to go under the radar do to budget and time constraints. Oh well… just a thought.
When they release the OVAs separately, as would be the case for TWOGK, Sentai tends to dub them. If fact, they’ve even gone back and used the original dub cast and studios when possible, though that wouldn’t be an issue here. If they pick these up, there is an extremely good chance they will be dubbed, as both season one and two were.
That would be great if that becomes true. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. I’ve seen other companies pass up OVAs so many times. And, because of this sometimes you don’t even know that they exist unless you look it up on your anime news site of choice. Let’s hope that is not the case here… don’t let us down Sentai!
I guess I understand what you are saying but to makes no sense that after 3 months we are still waiting. It will probably new year especially when considering season 1 second just ended last week. You think that would mean season two would start right after. No because they decide to do another run of Infinite Stratos and Ef after they just aired not to long ago. Reruns over shows that people are waiting for make no sense. Sorry. I been around Anime Network long enough to see some of their head scratching moves. This is one. Mayo Chiki starts but a second season of that has been waiting longer doesn’t?
Since season two hasn’t showed up on either the online player or VOD, it’s very likely that TAN doesn’t have the rights to it yet. It’s possible that season one was rerun in anticipation of them obtaining that, but it ended up not happening in time.
As for reruns, you have to keep in mind that reruns are based on viewership. The higher rated shows are more likely to be rerun. You also have to keep in mind that not everyone has seen these shows and not everyone has been waiting for the same shows you have been. Also, TAN doesn’t automatically get TV or digital rights to every show that Sentai releases, as Coffee pointed out. Even if they want to air it, they likely don’t have the ability to at the present. It’s possible that the deal with CR, which was made before Sentai acquired the show, could be interfering with any TAN deal. It’s also possible that season one was rerun when they were unable to secure season two and had to fill a gap in the schedule.
Mayo Chiki, according to online retailers, has been selling extremely well, especially for sub-only release and was even sold out at wholesale for a while. They also have TV and digital rights to it, so it makes sense to air it now.
That’s pretty much the way all cable and TV networks operate. If something doesn’t air, you never really know why and you often don’t know the exact reason why some shows are picked up and others aren’t. If they are still attempting to get the second season, it’s unlikely they will be able to say anything one way or the other.
I just find it best to not assume that something will air until it is officially confirmed. There have been many Sentai shows that never made it VOD, and several that never hit the online player or only had certain versions appear, like how Princess Resurrection can only be watched subbed online.
Well, we can only hope that it is based on viewership and not the later. If it is, odds are good that we will see it soon… fingers crossed. I have to admit that all this head scratching speculation is very taxing.
Yeah, regarding TV networks… don’t even get me started. I bet everyone remembers what happened to Firefly… what a crock! That was one of the biggest entertainment blunders of my time. Also re-watching the series recently and along with the present day cast interview reminds me of it all… MORE RAGE!
I was gonna’ mention that very same thing in regards to the last post in the Blog / Important Notice for Anime Network Online Users - Anime Network. That was another series that I happened to miss back in May. However, at least the dubbed version of the series is re-showing on VOD… it is so nice to be back! At least I can have a chance to finish it this time.
So with all things said, it can’t hurt to ask. This speculation is good for the fact that it shows that we have interest in the series. The only major drawback of it all is the fact that it takes too much time. I understand business and the fact that rights handling is very complex and time consuming… if only we lived in a perfect world. We demand it now! (…) *background protest chants.
I know you guys defend anime network but dealing with all the stupid things have done I wonder if it’s just not wanting to air it at this time. I know maybe the other reasons but anime network weird things over the years and wouldn’t surprise me.
Don’t get me wrong… I’m just stating some broad facts along with Cody, however I do agree with you. Every company, Anime Network included, will have its blunders and quirks at times. Trust me, even though I have not been here as long… there have been many of times in the past few months that I found myself wanting to scream certain obscenities. All I can say is to hope for the best soon. If they have obtained the content license as many have said including Slowhand…
it will only be a matter of time until the content releases. However, I do agree on the point that it seems to be taking its sweet time getting here though.
