Un-Go

Episode 7 –

spoiler

It looks like the reality novelist has hypnotized Shinjurou! And that girl appears in his cell again before Shinjurou runs out of the room. But when Shinjurou does leave the room, holding his head, it seems he’s in another world and he’s a different person with a different job. He is working on a movie set and it seems one of the actresses reminds him of Inga. He knows he needs to solve the mystery, but feels there isn’t one yet. The director treats Shinjurou harshly and doesn’t want him to associate with the three actresses.

Later, in a hallway a still disoriented Shinjurou is on his way to speak with the director and witnesses him bullying one of the actresses. He realizes there is a mystery to be solved and wants to get to the truth. Since the movie is about a war, he goes to the library to do some research and sees Mamori Kaze on the computer and hears his name being called. But when he looks at the computer again, everything seems normal. Suddenly, Shinjurou is faced with more than one mystery.

The actresses have different interpretations of their parts and how they view the war. But it all seems off somehow. Then he sees an image of the novelist and the girl. And when Shinjurou later looks at the script, the pages are blank! He tries to confront the director again, but passes out. I wonder why he had a handful of grass. And when Shinjurou wakes up in his own room, there is a bar code on the back of his neck. Back on the set, he finds out the director is dead. Not only is he dead, but he’s lying there in pieces. Shinjurou realizes that he is the only suspect and tries to remember what happened.

Rie Kaishou shows up as a police detective with her maid and arrests him for the murder. Shinjurou seems to recognize her as well. And the novelist is sitting in his cell – which looks like Shinjurou’s room – laughing! In the end Inga is trying to see Shinjurou, but is it in reality or part of the delusion?

Episode 8 –

Interesting that when Rie tries to find Shinjurou, she gets pulled into the illusion by the reality novelist as well. I like the special handcuffs that gave Shinjurou a dose of reality. He was somehow made a prisoner and can now see that he’s in a prison yard and all the people from the illusion that was a movie set are inmates!
*
But there was an actual murder and although Shinjurou has found the murder weapon, he, himself is the only possible suspect. At least the illusion ends when he finds the real murderer. And strangely, Shinjurou chooses to remain in prison. And stranger still, Kaishou is accused of taking the kami, Bettenou!

Episode 9 –

Now there are two Kaishous! I wonder if Bettenou is behind this as well – especially since she appears to Inga. Shinjurou figures this out, but how is he going to prove it? It’s getting very twisted!

Episode 10 (Sub) is live at ANO

Episode 10 –

Inga shows up and the inquest and I’m sure she’s being controlled by Bettenou. Shinjurou confronts Inga and is told that it’s hard to eat souls without killing before Inga disappears. And it’s a very odd Inga that Shinjurou speaks with.
*
Kaishou is released from the hospital, but won’t let Rie get in the car. As it pulls out into the street, it explodes! Did Kaishou know this would happen? I wonder if this is real or an illusion created by Bettenou. In any case, someone is out to get Kaishou and ruin him. Fuwa is in the crowd and mentions that this was a suicide. Very strange. Fuwa Jujirou looks as if he might have something against Kaishou. Perhaps he is the one behind all of this.
*
Shinjurou attends the wake for Kaishou and is attacked by Izumi. She’s a little unstable in her grief and blames both Shinjurou and herself for the death of Kaishou, before being led away. Based on the evidence, even Rie thinks her father may have committed suicide.
*
But Shinjurou is still looking for Bettenou and other suspects and Kuramitsu Mine is moving up the list. Knowing that Kaishou must be alive, Shinjurou visits the novelist in prison. He is the only one that knows the most about Bettenou and he admits the illusion of the car exploding may have been her doing. And now Shinjurou has received an invitation to a party – a party hosted by none other than Kaishou!

Episode 11 :end: (Sub) is live at ANO

Episode 11 –

All the players are gathered together at the invitation of a dead Kaishou to expose his killer. As they sit around a table, weapons are produced and Shinjurou explains what he knows so far. Perhaps they are meant to kill each other off, but they discuss the evidence and try to figure out who the true culprit is. But when Shinjurou might be getting close to the truth, gunshots ring out and everyone scrambles for cover. Suddenly, Kaishou appears!
*
He explains that he faked his own death in order to catch the culprit as well. Then he produces a transforming Inga to the stunned group! Inga heads straight to Shinjurou to ask him her question and asks him what he wants. Shinjurou is able to resist her and says that he once answered her question long ago, so he doesn’t have to answer her questions anymore. Shinjurou once again accuses Bettenou of being behind everything and controlling Inga.
*
Shinjurou sees Hayami Seigen where Kaishou was standing, but the others still see Kaishou there. The real Kaishou removes his disguise and now the others can see Hayami as well and Bettenou is standing beside him. As Shinjurou proclaims Bettenou a false god, she and Inga fight. Of course Inga wins and devours Bettenou. Meanwhile, Shinjurou asks Hayami what he was after. He confesses that he wanted Koyama to look at him the way she looked at Kaishou – as one looks at a god. Hayami tries to jump to his death, but Inga saves him.
*
Afterwards, Kaishou thanks Shinjurou for his help and invites him to dinner. But before Shinjurou accepts, he ties up another loose end and it seems that Kaishou may be guilty of something anyway. Rie stops him from saying anything further and Shinjurou explains his relationship with Inga. And much later, he tells Rie something else about Inga and why they are together. This was a great series with wonderful characters and although it ended really well, I would still love to see more!

Episodes 1-11 (Dub) are live at ANO

The HD version of the Dub isn’t working at the moment, will post when it’s ready.

Well, that was interesting. Also a rare dub that employs Japanese honorifics without being totally obnoxious about it.

It was like Tenjou Tenge all over again. It seemed like the “ask one question” power went to far, not only did she answer the question but she then went on a rant that made her guilt obvious. Then again, her guilt was already obvious to anyone who has seen the CBS show NCIS as this was another example of the “DiNozzo Rule”.

Though episode 1 was more like Encyclopedia Brown than Sherlock Holmes. I don’t think that this can approach Death Note but I’ll still pick it up.

The HD version of the dub is ready and working! Thanks for your patience! (and Rai is awesome!) :woohoo:
