See here’s my deal. If the Console industry adopted a Smart Phone upgrade Mentality, although instead of upgrading every 2 years, like they try to get you to do with Smart Phones, extend that to 5-8 years for a new console iteration. You’d want 3 console generations active / supported. When you release the new one the lowest Spec console becomes Obsolete meaning it won’t support the latest games coming out and developers don’t have to support it anymore. The big advantage to this, all games are continuously supported, since you are just using a more advanced architecture, Users can upgrade when they want / need / can afford to, and your game library is always available.
Disadvantage would be once you reach said technologies theoretical limits, or if / when Quantum Computing becomes mainstream lol

History would say otherwise. There are too many changes in that 5-8 year setup that even how you load games completely changes. And that’s just the media you load the games from. Then there are other things, like even something as simple as the CPU that’s used.
