Plot Summary: Subaru is a junior high student that loves the stars. One day, after school, she meets aliens from Pleiades in outer space. The Pleiadesians said they summoned a helper from Earth to collect engine parts so that they could repair the interstellar immigrant ship that broke down in the Earth’s orbit. However, for some reason they summoned one but ended up with five helpers. The five girls assigned to be “wizards” all are lacking something, and even when they try to combine their powers, they’re always mismatched and failing. On top of it, a mysterious boy appears. In order to help a hapless alien, with the power of infinite possibilities due to immaturity as their weapon, Subaru and the other four fly around to gather parts while nurturing their friendship.

So, I actually got around to watching this today.
It actually wasn’t too bad, though it is really short, you can only fit so much in 4 5 minute increments, but all in all, they did a pretty good job with it.

I finally got to watch this one as well. It was really cute. I agree that it was a bit short and I’d love to see it expanded upon. But for what it was, it was good.

It was a little confusing at first, since like I said, you can only fit so much in 4 5 minute increments, but what they did fit in was actually rather fun for a short maho shojo.

Since it was a joint project between Subaru & Gainax, I had to have a good laugh…

when they were flying on their staffs (brooms?) because they had Subaru engine sounds.

Exclusive original footage used to remind movie-goers of manners during films

The United Cinemas chain of Japanese movie theaters announced that it is collaborating with Subaru and Gainax to show a “manner movie” based on the Hōkago no Pleiades anime from June 4 to July 1.

Japanese theaters show manner movies, similar to the reminder videos in other countries, before the main features to remind people to turn off the mobile phones, to avoid talking, and to maintain a pleasant viewing experience for others in the theater. The new manner movie will show original footage that can only be seen in this theater chain.

United Cinemas will sell a limited Hōkago no Pleiades set with a small cup of soft drink and one of six different Hōkago no Pleiades original clear film-style bookmarks during the time that the manner movie is running. Also during the manner movie’s run, original Hōkago no Pleiades goods — six clear files, an eight-card postcard set, a notebook, a tumbler, and 20 pin badges — will be sold first at the theaters. Finally, United Cinemas’ Toyosu theater will have a Hōkago no Pleiades cafe with Subaru Strawberry Milk Tea and Subaru Blue drinks, each of which will come with one of six different original Hōkago no Pleiades coasters as a present.

The anime originated as four anime shorts that debuted on the YouTube website in January to promote Subaru cars.

Hōkago no Pleiades’ Next Stage Teased for TV
posted on 2013-12-28 22:54 EST

The official Twitter account for Subaru and Gainax’s Hōkago no Pleiades anime project teased on Thursday that “Hōkago no Pleiades’ NEXT STAGE is…eh? TV???” The official website still lists the next stage for 2013.

Gainax announced in March that it is working on a 90-minute Hōkage no Pleiades anime film.

The story centers around an afterschool club of magical girls who help recover fragments so that an alien from Pleiades can return home. The Pleiades is the English name for the star cluster that the Japanese call “Subaru” — the origin of the car maker’s name and six-star logo. Subaru and Gainax streamed the original anime online with English subtitles.
