15:40:18 <bay|AX|Sentai> Q: Doing Lithographs? A: A lot of things I want to do, we just started doing merchandise for HSotD
15:40:39 <bay|AX|Sentai> there is other merchandise coming for hsotd
Curious to see what other merchandise they have coming. Plus I want one of those shirts.
Guessing since it’s stopped the panel is over.
So with Section 23 done I am going to look back at AX now.
The con opened awesome for me, NIS America grabbed the two biggest licenses to me, Kimi ni Todoke and Enma-kun Mera Mera
Aniplex USA announced a sub only release for a mainstream series and Madoka is coming “sometime dubbed or subbed in some sort of release” so while great, way too vague.
Funimation licensed a show where a girl wants to bang 100 guys and a show with cat girls, plus decided Otakon wasn’t worth announcing stuff at. Yep, a bit mad at them, better make it up at Otakon.
Bandai announced a show we knew they had earlier this week.
Section 23 announced an interesting movie, and Greg Ayeres finally gets to go back to his orginal role, and stuff that I don’t really know about.
NIS America this is for me, your first con win tying you with Discotek last year at Otakon.
One thing I forgot, Funi grabbed B Gata, Section 23 grabbed Ro-Kyu-Bo, both these shows are considered great sellers, we are entering a dark period of anime licensing.
Well
I’d say Rightstuf was my winner because of the rescues they got. The Nadesico Home Media version and the never before released here Gekiganger III would have been fine ,but they also are putting the rest of Dirty Pair back on the market.
NISA and Funimation is tide for Number 2. NISA for Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera and Funimation for Deadman Wonderland.
Sentai is at Number 3 they would have been higher ,but Ro-Kyu-Bu really lost them some points with me. If not for Clannad Blu-ray Loups-Garous, ef: a tale of memories , ef: a tale of melodies , and more Golgo 13 they’d be even lower.
Aniplex USA is Number 4 because honestly one title I don’t really have interest and the other there is no real info other then they have it.
Viz comes in 5 because of the Layton movie.
Bandai is probably last because they really did not do much other then show up and say what they’ve said before and give a little more info on the New Gundam I really don’t think I’m going to care for.
So, now that it’s all said and done…
They only thing of ineterst to me was the license confirmation of Madoka
Overall, I’m fairly disappointed with AX overall. Sentai picked up some titles I’ve been waiting for, but everyone else fired blanks for me. I’m somewhat interested it Deadman’s Wonderland, but a Funi dub knocks it pretty far down my list, especially with my limited budget. I really have very little interest in the titles that Aniplex, NISA, and Bandai acquired. Other than ef and Saiyuki, there wasn’t anything that surprised me this year.
Regardless, I’m still psyched for ef and more Saiyuki (without Bang Zoom’s butchered dub.) I wonder if Sentai might pick up the seasons that ADV and Geneon each had.
Another little interesting tid-bit from the ANN Sentai coverage…

“Williams then gave away a number of DVDs, and Blu-rays to trivia winners. During this time he revealed that when Right Stuf’s Nozomi Entertainment licensed Dirty Pair recently, he offered to dub the series but was declined.”[/quote]
That is shocking. I’m sure they would have done the dub for cheap.
All in all a lackluster year as far as I am concerned. As should be obvious by my previous post, Nozomi is the winner this year because I REALLY want Project Eden and the Gekiganger OVA. Second place is a tie between Bandai (if only because there’s finally a date for releasing the original Mobile Suit Gundam sets) and Funimation (for the new Last Exile). Everything else was not very exciting.
