Bandai Visual News (Bandai Entertainment)

Bumping the thread as there is only a week or two left of Bandai accepting purchases orders from stores.

Only last week at TRSI, several tiles were under the " we’ll get it for you " status. I think most of these titles are now restocked but those who want their Bandai DVDs better act now.

Time to get Eureka Seven !

I was at that Otakon panel, and it was a great panel, but in hindsight it was a bad panel. Gosick and Nichijou got announced, neither came out. It was fun but the licenses were lame.

In fact I went to a panel of theirs that November, after they had been decided to be shut down and they acted like there were no problems and in fact told me Nichijou and Gosick would be out the next year(2012) sub only most likely.

I’m not sure if it is a bad panel because those 2 shows didn’t come out. Though I went to the panel for the entertainment factor, I barely even remember the license releases (and I’m glad they didn’t try to have us dance to the theme song of one of them again…) as I took that time to count all the cool free stuff Bandai gave us :D.

Bandai After Dark ruined all other Bandai panels for me, it was so awesome that none of the other panels I went to measured up. Besides some fan going into a ragefit at Katsucon 2011 in protest of the idea of a Bandai DVD/BD combo pack (In retrospect I can kind of understand this as the Sentai hate of the combo pack irks me continually) I don’t even remember a one that I went to being notable.

I miss Bandai. Not as much as Geneon or ADV but it still hurts that they’re truly now gone. I’ve bought all their releases that I know that I want, but as with ADV/Geneon there’s bound to be a release of theirs that I don’t know that I want now, but will in the future, when it’ll be sold out. “Known unknowns” suck.

They’re only gone from the US. The parent company is still alive and producing more series. As for the release of theirs that you’ll realize you want just after it sells out-I know that feeling well. I have to wonder if I’ll ever get the last two box sets of You’re Under Arrest!

True, Bandai Visual and all “those guys” still exist in Japan.

But those weren’t the guys who sent Bob Napton and the Bandai crew around to cons for years. They created the Bandai properties that I liked but they weren’t the ones who really brought it to the US market.

To me the Bandai left is just a stranger with a similar name; the Bandai I knew is dead.

On the plus side, it means that their shows can be picked up by Sentai/Funimation. On the downside it means that their shows aren’t virtually guaranteed to be picked up and released stateside.

I wish that they had been able to bring SRW:OG over with a real release and a dub. It was a fun, cheesy show that made me remember the games. It also featured what is, as far as I know, the best JAM Project song.

By any chance, do you mean this?

RIP Bandai.

Well, I got all the stuff I wanted basically. I hope we start seeing a few of their more popular titles license rescued pretty soon though. It’s a shame to see some of them go OOP. Media Blasters needs to pick up one of their old cash cows to avoid a similar fate.

And now the intro song to the best title Bandai ever released and if you missed it , you really missed out …

If Sentai Filmworks or Funimation goes out of business anime fans are in trouble.

Bandai has been treading water for a long time. People expected it to be gone already honestly. I think Sentai’s business model is working great. They haven’t slowed down since reforming. I see nothing to be worried about anyway.

I know I did, I am surprised Media Blasters, Aniplex usa and NIS America is still out there.

I consider Funimation and Sentai to be the big Two in R1. The next tier is Right Stuf, NIS, and MB.

Viz is still more so a manga company. Their anime releases aren’t much.

Don’t really have much to worry about . The main issue with Bandai is/was the Japanese side after the merger of Namco and Bandai and the failure of Bandai Visual USA they almost appeared to be tying them up , taking them to a high mountain , and leaving them hanging from a rope from the top with peanut butter smeared on the rope while some slow eating rats ate away waiting for Bandai Ent. to fall on top of some sharp rocks below. Sorry about the run on.

I’m gonna say Sentai is doing just fine.
Why u might asked…because…

  1. They’re releasing sub-only shows on the very niche titles.
  2. They’re starting to do more dubs, even on shows one would think they wouldn’t, based on their past releases: like Dream Eater Merry or the Ef series.
  3. They’re going back and dubbing past sub-only shows, Princess Resurrection being the latest example.
  4. They have their shows on the various cable providers, even Comcast: Broken Blade and Highschool of the Dead, even if it is for a limited time.
  5. U can watch their shows at home (online, VOD, etc.) or on the go (iPhone/iPod/other smartphones0.

…um, their might be more but that’s all that I can come up with.

For now…

Sentai hasn’t put off a release like Bandai with Turn A Gundam so until something like that happens I think they will be okay. I think I heard they are surviving month to month but with them grabbing a bit higher profile shows like Angel Beats, I think they are okay.

I agree with you on your comment but Bandai released K-ON, Haruhi Suzumiya season 2 and movie last year, also don’t forget about Gundam animes, Sadly all are higher profile shows then Angel Beats and Bandai still failed.

But here’s the thing, “high profile” shows don’t automatically mean high sales.
Just cause it’s huge in Japan, that doesn’t mean it will be huge here.

You know it took them years to admit that running the original Gundam after Gundam Wing on CN was a huge mistake. You’d think that would have been a huge duh moment that running a show from 79 after one from 95 was a bad idea. I believe they even said that Gundam Wing was really the last huge selling Gundam series they released. Rest did ok but never reach the sales Wing did. My personal opinion is Superior Defender Gundam Force running instead of Zeta probably did not help matters either.

Heck I had all of the Gundam Wing 1/100 models they sold at Toyrsrus. It was one of my favorite things to do when bored. I was really disappointed when they stopped selling the model kits when the original Gundam failed. Also I remember the article in Toyfare talking about Zeta coming to CN only for them to show Superior Defender Gundam Force. After that the Universal Century Gundam Shows got a huge set back and it took them years to even release Zeta. Now it’s looking like I will never own ZZ or V.

I’m more disappointed then anyone can comprehend about Turn A not getting released. I hope someone else will rescue the Gundam shows but I have more then a feeling we will see a overpriced “IMPORT” with English subs before Sunrise lets anyone here have Gundam.
