Clannad and Clannad After Story

Ep. 20

spoiler

Was right about the teacher. I see they get along the same as always. Botan sure had a growth spurt. The scenes with Fuko and Ushio were cute. Thought it was interesting that Ushio is taking walks to Nagisa’s special place. I really hope her getting sick at the end does not mean she has the same health problems as her mom.

I’m worried about that as well.

Episode 20 -

spoiler

I liked the opening scene of Tomoya and Ushio eating breakfast. Ushio kept dropping her food, so Tomoya fed her. So sweet!

Kyou is Ushio’s teacher! Botan sure did get big too. Kyou and Tomoya talk for a little while and get to catch up a bit which was nice.

Yoshino tells Tomoya that Fuko wants to come to his house and play with Ushio if it’s ok. He says that Fuko has been in rehab, is very shy and doesn’t have many friends, but likes Ushio. Tomoya says it’s fine and they set a date.

Ushio left the house alone and went for a walk, ending up at the new hospital. I think I’m getting one of those feelings of mine again.

At night, in bed, Ushio asks Tomoya to sing her “Mommy’s song”. He sings the dango song as a lullaby and thinks of Nagisa. He cries and they both fall asleep holding the stuffed dango between them – like Nagisa was there.

Fuko comes to play and she has a star-shaped purse and stars on her cute red shoes. She speaks in the third person and still wants Ushio to be her little sister, even bribing her with star shaped bread. It was a very amusing visit and the exploding tights were the best!

They all play cards and at one point, Tomoya fades out, thinking how it might have been with Nagisa there. Fuko asks about Nagisa and as Ushio tells her about her mommy, Tomoya thinks about Nagisa and cries. Fuko says that he can call her anytime and she will come over. As Fuko leaves, she tries to take Ushio with her, but Tomoya stops her and she reluctantly gives in, saying that there will be other opportunities. I laughed when Fuko said “Try not to get killed in your sleep”, just before she goes. After the visit, Tomoya says he’s exhausted and Ushio says that Fuko is a funny person.

The next time Tomoya picks up Ushio at school, Kyou tells him about Sports Day and that the parents participate. When he visits the grandparents, he tells Sanae about Sports Day, but it seems they already know. Akio is already in training because he was asked to be the anchor on the Teacher’s Team. He challenges Tomoya and he gets roped into being the anchor for the Parent’s Team. He protests, but once Ushio wishes him luck, he promises to do his best. He starts training too so he won’t look bad in front of Ushio.

Ushio goes out walking by herself again, but this time meets Fuko, who walks with her. They end up at the hospital and Fuko asks her if she likes it there. Ushio says she does and when Fuko asks her why, she says she just does. I wonder if she senses that Akio used to come here when Nagisa was sick, or if it is another reason. I’m just getting a bad feeling from her fascination with this hospital. Why is she so drawn to it?

Tomoya trains really hard for Sports Day so he can impress Ushio, but also so he can beat Akio. The night before the big day, they are all at the grandparent’s house and Tomoya and Akio are posturing about their “grudge” match. Ushio walks into the room, but she doesn’t look right. Sanae asks her if she’s ready for the big day. They all notice something is wrong with her and Tomoya catches her as she collapses. He says that she is burning up with fever. Is it just a cold or did she inherit her mother’s illness? I don’t want to know, but I have a really sick feeling that she has what her mother had. This can’t be good.

Does anyone like my signature?

Most impressive! That is really good work!

I take it you are a fan of clanned (and here is my sign, doh!)

To be clear, those are made by other artists.

Chris it’s a good idea to mention if you made the art or got it online. Normally the art added in this sub-forum is for personal fan art by the members.

This thread probably should go to the Clannad thread or EE, not sure yet as either works, it’s kind of a grey area. I’ll move it to the general Clannad discussion thread since that’s what makes the best sense right now.

I did not create those images. I found them using a cool anime photo website.

You can always delete my post. I thought they were cool and other people might want to see them. Give me Karma please.

Yes they are cool. Just make sure you mention next time, since the Fan Art section is for art made by forum members.

If you make new art for Clannad feel free to post in that sub-forum also.

Mo-verload, of course.

Ep. 21:

Just when you think it was sad enough, get out a fresh box of kleenex. How Tomoya doesn’t just emotionally shut down after this, is beyond me, I certainly can’t begin to imagine being in his position. One episode wraps it up, then we get a couple of bonuses. I wonder how it will work out? I guess I’ll find out in a week.

So what photo is better?

Neither, Tomoya isn’t in any of them!

OK, so what’s up with the sub mistakes on Clannad? I’ve read how people were hoping the dubs were better that the subs, because there were a lot of mistakes on the original sub release. This is actually the first I’ve heard of it.

Sentai Filmworks Announces Clannad English Dub

posted on 2010-03-15

HOUSTON, March 15, 2010—Sentai Filmworks is pleased to announce that the hit series Clannad will be receiving an English dub. Originally released in a subtitled only format, Clannad is receiving the dub as part of an agreement in which several affiliated groups have come together to create English language versions for five of Sentai’s most popular titles.

In addition to the 24 episode Clannad, the four other series that have been selected for this limited program are: the science fiction drama Blue Drop (13 episodes,) the psychological thriller Ghost Hound (22 episodes,) Legends of the Dark King ~ A Fist of the North Star Story (13 episodes) and the 26 episode historical fantasy Tears to Tiara. English dub production duties for all five series will be handled by Seraphim Digital under the auspices of a team of veteran ADR directors such as Steven Foster, who will oversee the English dub for Clannad.

In appreciation of those who supported the subtitled only release of these shows, Sentai Filmworks is developing an “Upgrade” program which will allow owners of the subtitled versions to upgrade their DVD’s for the new release containing the English dub. The shows will also be available both through broadcast, streaming and retail outlets over the coming months. Further details will be announced as they are available.

About Sentai Filmworks:
Sentai Filmworks is one of the fastest-growing anime companies in North America, including hit series like Gintama, Eyeshield 21 and hit movies like Appleseed. Sentai Filmworks is distributed by Ingram Entertainment, Baker & Taylor, Section23Films and other good and fine distributors.

Yeah, there were several typos in the first set, though it improved quite a bit for the second set. I think not only was it a case of the companies being shorter handed, but also it seemed that they had a pretty strict deadline with Clannad. If I remember correctly, it starting shipping almost a month before the street date.

The subtitles were bad at times, but certainly not unreadable, and no worse than I’ve seen on many other DVDs. To be honest, if the title had been dubbed, most would have never noticed, as very few seem to notice the various mistakes in Funi’s subs.

Well, I had a complete brain fart here! But anyway, there is still a strong chance the Clannad dub is already done, or at least the first half of the show. So I’m wondering if the March 25th rerun of the show will be the dubbed version?

Personally, I think it could be a great time to debut the new dub!

Ep. 21

First they give Ushio Nagisa’s disease and then looks like they killed her. Were they trying to make the audience cry as much as possible. Did like the scene with the exchange of screwdrivers. That was nice. Also Akio trying to give Tomoya money to help him out. I expect the death of Ushio will destroy Tomoya’s spirit.
