Still not many if any of the shows they took from ADV :face_in_clouds:or the ones they got from Geneon or quite a few older shows either.

Black Cat

Now if they lose Flights of Fancy, and Media Blasters finally loses S1, would really like to see Hidive / Sentai get all of Ah! Megamisama! (including Adventures of Mini Goddess and the Movie)

I’m annoyed that they haven’t brought over the shows that are currently airing. I feel I’ll have to bite the bullet and play in April at this rate for Funimation.

I think it was said the others would move over once they were finished. Though I’m not sure if that means the airing or the dubbing for those they were dubbing.

According to Anime News Network and Wikipedia, Media Blaster’s license for S1 has expired.

I REALLY hate the fact there are comments about jumping to piracy as a result of this announcement.

Also, with the first two seasons of Non Non Biyori going away, there’s no more free options to get people hooked on my favorite show! Hidive really needs a free tier at some point for those who are more casual anime fans and don’t see the point of paying money for it.

Someone noticed CR added to the help section they are doing away with the free with ads a week after for simulcast.

https://help.crunchyroll.com/hc/en-us/articles/4962816171412-Changes-to-Ad-Supported-Viewing-

Changes to Ad-Supported Viewing
For the Spring 2022 season and future seasonal releases, Crunchyroll will update our offering on simulcast titles by subscription tier. To view new and continuing simulcasts, a premium monthly or annual subscription will be required. With the exception below, we will no longer be offering simulcast episodes one week after release as an ad-supported, free viewing option. For continuing series, ad-supported viewing on any new episodes will not be available in line with the Spring season, however, previously published episodes are still available to all user types.

To introduce our new seasonal simulcasts, we will be offering initial episodes of select titles as part of a “seasonal sampler” for free viewing for a limited time. For the Spring 2022 season, users can watch the first three episodes of these simulcast titles for free with ads:

  • Spy x Family
  • A Couple of Cuckoos
  • Dawn of the Witch
  • Tomodachi Game
  • Skeleton Knight in Another World
  • Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
  • The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody
  • Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs

The first three episodes of these Spring titles will be available for free, ad-supported viewing one week after their subscription-only premiere until 5/31. After this date, all episodes within our seasonal sampler preview will require subscription.

We want to encourage as many fans as possible to explore new shows and see the full benefits of Crunchyroll premium access. Crunchyroll makes more than 1,000 hours available for viewers to sample free of charge through our ad-supported tier, and will continue to offer free content going forward.

Sony is already moving to maximize its new cash cow.

I was thinking it would happen ,but I was hoping for the crowd that can’t really get a subscription for various legit actually good reasons they’d keep it going the way it is. It’s unfortunately probably going to push more to sail the seas.

If they are going to do this then they really need to come up with a better pricing model or give a better value. My Funimation one paid for itself last year with the discount I got on two figures and a box set for example. I personally don’t think the guy they put in charge of CR gets things with the way he worded some stuff in that last interview.

I wonder if Sony is going to rebrand CR as Aniplex. They finally have enough content for a 24/7 channel in North America.

While it sounds intriguing that they would, it’s fairly doubtful. Aniplex of America has been around for about 12 years now (I believe. Please correct me if I’m wrong about that.), and Sony had previously kept both the Funimation and AOA companies separate. However, with the Sony acquisition of Crunchyroll, Funimation is being amalgamated into Crunchyroll. Where this exactly stands for AOA is anyone’s guess at this time, as they are still operating independently from Crunchyroll for now, but have only announced Kaguya-Sama S3 for the Spring 2022 roster, and Engage Kiss for the Summer 2022 season.

In addition, outside of Asia, Crunchyroll is significantly more well known than Aniplex is. Part of the reason Sony decided to keep CR instead of Funi.

Even though I am a fan of linear (that is, 24/7) channels, the conventional wisdom in the television industry is that linear is going away in favor of on demand (with the obvious exceptions of live news and sports, which by their nature cannot be anything but linear.) Therefore, I doubt that Sony will create a linear anime channel, no matter what it may be called.

Not to mention the last two times it’s been tried–The Anime Network and The Funimation Channel–they lasted only a few years before shutting down.

Also, the branch of Sony that Aniplex is under is like the music department, which Funi and CR is in the movie(?) department (The one that if Disney just wanted to buy the part of Sony with the rights to Spiderman, would buy Funimation and CR as well)

Are you aware of the Pluto streaming service? It has shows on constant repeat. Sony could try something like that. Also I meant to say Animax
