Eps. 01 & 02

Wow, I’m rather impressed.
So far, at its heart, this seem to be your typical good vs. evil magical girl show
Though this one got really dark right off the bat.

Akari killing her own cousin in the first episode.

Ep. 05

So, while this is kinda of dark at times, all in all it’s a bit on the bland side of things.

Though I did have a good laugh at the begining of this episode.

spoiler

The background song for the two in the field and a little bit after that, was rather reminiscent of the LotR OST played when they were still in Hobbiton.

-lol-
This song & part!

Ep. 08

Well now, this just got rather more dark than it has been in awhile.

spoiler

Counterpart cards are the opposite yet same cards that the Elemental Tarot users wield, but once they destroy the counterpart card, the girls cards disappear as well.

So we lose a girl each time a counterpart card is destroyed.
And this time, it was Ginka’s turn to fight herself and disappear.

That was rather sad, as she was part of the glue that held the group together with her Temperance card.

Episode 7 –

spoiler

That card reading was a bit on the ominous side. But the test of courage was pretty funny. I’m glad the girls got a fun day together. Thinking about that card reading again, perhaps it was their last?

Episode 8 –

spoiler

Due to the “pair annihilation phenomenon”, the girls are ordered to flee instead of fight, if they should come across their counterparts. For the most part, the fearful girls agree, for none want to disappear. However, when faced with Ginka’s Temperance counterpart, Ginka is injured before they can escape.

In the end, Ginka goes back alone to face her counterpart again. I know she was curious, but why did she do that? The other girls rush to save her, but can’t convince her to run away, nor will Ginka allow them to fight with her. For some reason, the Daemonia thinks that if it combines with Ginka, it will survive.

The girls can only watch helplessly as Ginka destroys the Daemonia and herself in the process. Both she and the Daemonia disappear and the remaining three girls are left to grieve for their friend. Ginka with Temperance had brought balance to the group, but without her, I wonder if the team will now fall apart.

Episode 9 –

spoiler

It was sad to see everyone grieving for Ginka in their own ways. I felt especially bad for her father. But it is Luna that has cut herself off from everyone, and remains shut up in her room. She is reluctantly given permission to return home for a while. At the last minute, Luna asks Akari to go with her, but Akari prefers to remain at the school. She promises Luna that she won’t disappear while Luna is gone.

Once at the villa, Luna thinks about her missing sister, Serena, and how she had disappeared one night. It was cruel that the members of her family didn’t seem to mind, only because it moved them one stop closer to inheritance. Luna also remembers her awakening and how she never really wanted to fight. And she likens Akari to her sister as well, which makes her feel a little better.

Suddenly, Serena appears before Luna, but runs off, causing Luna to try and follow her. But when she catches up, it’s Akari and not her sister. Luna is happy to see her, but thinks that Akari has come to take her back and Luna doesn’t want to go. Akari assures her that she isn’t there to collect her, and will even stay with her until Luna feels better again.

They spend some quality time together, but then one night, Luna asks Akari about what she had once told Seira. Akari just looks at her with a blank expression. Is this really Akari? Luna goes on to say that she wants to know more about Akari and Akari echoes that sentiment, promising to tell Luna what happened someday. Luna gets up early to watch the sun rise and wishes she could stay with Akari forever.

Over breakfast, Luna announces that she’s ready to return, and wants to protect Akari. The girls decide to return together. Later that evening, Luna tells Akari that she wants to be with her forever, even if Luna were to disappear, and Akari hugs her. But she also tells Luna that she can’t return her feelings, saying that she likes Seira more. This can’t possibly be Akari! Akari continues to insult Luna until Luna has more bad memories surface. Akari’s eyes change color and she stabs Luna with a dagger!

The moon turns red and the dagger turns into the Emperor Tarot card. And Akari turns into Cerebrum! The card buries itself in Luna and causes her to transform into something like a werewolf. Cerebrum says that this is what happens when a Daemonia card is put into an Elemental user. How tragic! And now Cerebrum plans on using her. Will Luna be the next one to die? I can only imagine what Cerebrum has in mind.

Episode 10 –

spoiler

Luna appears to Akari and Seira in her werewolf form. I think they’re going to have a hard time fighting her, knowing that the creature before them is Luna. How can they someone they consider a friend?

Oh no! Now Meltina and Priscilla have met their counterparts. They have no choice but to fight them.

Seira chooses to fight this Luna creature, but Akari would rather talk to her. However, Luna attacks and Akari tries to protect her from Seira, the result being both Seira and Akari getting hurt. With Seira restrained, Luna bites her in the neck. A butterfly mark appears on Seira’s neck and Luna leaves.

Akari also goes to save Meltina and Priscilla from their counter parts. Her speed was incredible as she whisked them away to safety. However, Meltina, Priscilla, and Seira all end up in the infirmary, unconscious and unable to fight. Seira is the first to wake, but the butterfly on her neck turns red and her Tarot card turns black.

Akari makes her report regarding Luna, and Laplace and Schrodinger reveal themselves to her and tell her about Cerebrum. They tell Akari that as long as Cerebrum controls Luna, they will probably be given an order to kill her. Akari protests as I knew she would. Laplace reminds Akai that her mission is to kill Daemonia and Luna is now a Daemonia. However, I know Akari is going to try to find a way to save Luna. She tries to talk to Seira about it, but Seira tells Akari that she won’t be fighting anymore for she has lost her powers and shows her the black Tarot card.

Akari fights alone now, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before she gets worn out. She eventually meets Luna again, who tries to entice her into becoming a Daemonia. Akari refuses and Luna attacks her. It obvious that Luna is in terrible pain. Akari can’t fight her and is soon restrained just as Seira was. But the Luna inside the monster loosens the restraint and warns Akari to run. Knowing that Luna is still in there is going to make Akari fight all the harder to save her.

But Akari is reaching the point of exhaustion and doesn’t feel she can fight anymore. While visiting her mother’s grave, Akari encounters a little blue-haired girl that is apparently lost. Why do I think that this is Cerebrum? Meanwhile Seira is trying to deal with the frustration of not being able to fight, and she’s feeling rather useless. During her wanderings, she hears a rumor of a wolf in the mountains.

Although the little girl has been looking for her mother, she tells Akari that she doesn’t have one anymore. Akari mentions how she’s all alone as well. The little girl offers to be friends with Akari, but it seems she is also hypnotizing her. Just as Akari seems to fall into making a promise with the child, her phone rings and snaps her out of it. There is an emergency and she is being recalled, but when she turns back to the little girl, the child is gone.

Seira has gone to the mountains. A mob is attacking the school as Akari returns. Cerebrum is behind this and has the humans thinking that the school is to blame for the Daemonia attacks. The mob breaks in and everyone has to flee. When Akari looks back, the school is ablaze. How sad! But at least they have gotten away safely. This is just one more thing that Cerebrum will have to answer for someday.

Episode 11 –

spoiler

Akari and her friends find refuge with her old fortune telling family. Laplace has a cruel streak. How could he talk about Seira that way? Akari wants to look for her, but it’s too dangerous at the moment. Meanwhile, Seira is exploring the old house in the woods, and she finds both Luna and Cerebrum in one of the rooms. But Cerebrum was expecting Akari. Still, he manages to deliver a blow to Seira’s ego, and strikes a nerve.

Cerebrum tries to convince Seira that Luna will never return to normal, and that the only way for Seira to get her powers back is to kill Luna. He leaves Seira with a dagger and tries to play upon her sympathy for Luna, before he exits the room. With so many thoughts whirling in her mind, Seira picks up the dagger……

The following morning, Akari really wants to go out and look for Seira, but is talked out of it. Seira can’t bring herself to kill the sleeping Luna and puts the dagger back down. Etia has a private talk with Akari and tells her about her birth. But in telling her, she’s going against the Leguzario, and Ariel agrees that she should be told. Schrodinger sides with them as Laplace goes off to report them.

It turns out Akari’s mother had fought with Etia and Ariel. And her father was infected by the Daemonia. This is why she can hear them! And her powers come from both sides. It was her all along that Cerebrum was after, and now this means she must choose a side. She decides to go to Cerebrum in order to try to save Luna and Seira. Akari just doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt.

I don’t trust that organization. As Laplace makes his report, it seems that Cerebrum is part of Leguzario as well. Once again, Akari meets the little girl at the cemetery. But Akari admits that she knows who the child really is. It was funny to hear Cerebrum’s voice come out of a little girl. Akari begs Cerebrum to free Luna and Seira, asking what she has to do. Cerebrum plays with her mind and even brings up her cousin.

Luna has awakened and her chain disappears. The first thing she sees is Seira and jumps to her. It isn’t long before she’s trying to attack Seira. The dagger is knocked to the floor near Seira, but can she use it? Cerebrum tells Akari that he will save Luna and Seira – if Akari goes with him. However, she can never return, and she will never see Luna or Seira again. Or anyone else for that matter. Akari will have to give everything up. Can she make that sacrifice? Will it even matter? I don’t think Cerebrum has any intention of saving Luna and Seira. And Seira is now defending herself against Luna with that dagger. I hope Akari knows better and doesn’t go with Cerebrum!

Episode 12 –

spoiler

Cerebrum wants to mate with Akari! That’s what all this has been for? Seira is still fighting Luna, but is trying to avoid her attacks as much as possible. I know she really doesn’t want to hurt her friend. Cerebrum makes his offer to Akari again. He swears that he will save Luna and Seira if Akari goes with him. Akari accepts his offer!

Cerebrum transports Akari and himself to the Sephirothic Tree, where Cerebrum activates some kind of device. Is that the Clessidra that Laplace spoke of? Seira is still trying to fend off Luna, but it really isn’t working. She’s going to have to start using that dagger a little better. But as Akari takes Cerebrum’s hand, Luna is transformed. I really didn’t think Cerebrum would keep that promise.

Akari is home again and Fuyuna is alive. She’s reliving the day that Fuyuna transformed and died. However, Cerebrum will have her relive this day over and over until she can accept him. As Luna and Seira head to her location, it seems that Akari may be going crazy from repeatedly reliving the horror of killing Fuyuna. Luna and Seira find the Clessidra and see that Akari is within it, but their voices can’t reach her. The girls are then attacked by Daemonia that look like trees.

Cerebrum tries to convince Akari that Fuyuna became a Daemonia because of her and her “dark” feelings. Akari cries as Cerebrum tells her that Fuyuna would still be alive if they had never met. I know this is killing Akari. She’s been trying to change the reality each time she relives it, but she can’t, and Fuyuna keeps dying at Akari’s hands.

Laplace has brought back a key from Leguzario and Schrodinger explains to Etia and Ariel that the organization doesn’t want Akari and Cerebrum to reach the “next level”. Etia accepts the key for Akari’s sake and it’s all very mysterious. Luna and Seira have defeated the Daemonia, but are captured by the Sephirothic Tree. However, the pieces of the defeated Daemonia come together to form one giant tree Daemonia. Ginka (she’s alive!) appears from nowhere and attacks the Daemonia. She also frees Luna and Seira. The stunned girls watch as Ginka defeats the Daemonia. Where has she been?

Ginka seems to know a lot about Akari’s current situation, among other things, and the girls are truly happy to see her alive and well, as am I. She tells them that she will explain things later, but they first have to save Akari. Akari herself isn’t looking too well. This torture must be driving her to the brink of insanity! I hope she can be saved.

Episode 13 –

spoiler

The girls continue to attack the Clessidra in order to save their friend, but Akari may be reaching her limit. And Fuyuna spoke to her this time. That night, as Akari waits for Fuyuna, Cerebrum tells her that it will be the last. This time when Fuyuna comes, she and Akari actually talk and Akari discovers how Fuyuna really feels, which is just what she wanted. Things have changed and Akari is confronted by an angry Cerebrum. He has no choice but to kill her now.

Akari’s death will ruin the Tarot deck and the Daemonia will win. The other watch as the Clessidra changes. Etia and Ariel use the key, and then their combined powers to break the Clessidra. Akari is saved! And her friends welcome her back. But Cerebrum is up to his old tricks again and tries to cause a rift between the girls. It doesn’t work this time, and Akari faces Cerebrum in a final fight. He transforms and the rest of the girls get involved in the battle. Priscilla and Meltina arrive to help as well.

Even with everyone fighting, it looks like Cerebrum is winning. But the power of friendship is stronger and the girls band together to defeat this monster. As Akari goes after Cerebrum’s card, her mother is with her, giving her strength. Akari attacks the card and it is destroyed. Cerebrum is defeated! Akari is saddened that she couldn’t hear a voice this time.

Everyone gathers back at the house, and Akari wants to keep fighting with everyone so that she can someday save those possessed by the Daemonia. The school will be rebuilt and in the meantime, the girls are traveling to other branches. In checking for her passport, Akari comes across a last, inspiring message from Fuyuna. It was a nice way to end the series. Another show that surprised me a bit and that I ended up enjoying very much. It even ended a bit open – just enough to continue the story if they do another season. And that would be very nice!
