Free! Eternal Summer English Dub Casts Ian Sinclair, Jamie Marchi, More

posted on 2014-11-16 12:48 EST

Sinclair joins as Sosuke Yamazaki, March as Gou Matsuoka

Funimation Entertainment announced on Sunday that Ian Sinclair (Hetalia’s Romano, Space Dandy’s Dandy, One Piece’s Brook) will play Sosuke Yamazaki and Jamie Marchi (Panty & Stocking’s Panty, High School DxD’s Rias Gremory) will play Gou Matsuoka in its upcoming English dub of Free! Eternal Summer.

Funimation also announced the following new cast members:

• Caitlin Glass as Miho Amakata
• Robert McCollum as Seijuro Mikoshiba
• Christopher R. Sabat as Goro Sasabe
• Clifford Chapin as Takuya Uozumi
• Micah Solusod as Kazuteru Minami

Jerry Jewell will serve as ADR director, J. Michael Tatum will adapt the original scripts, and Alyssa Galindo and Kenneth Thompson will serve as ADR engineers for the dub. Funimation noted that there are still some dub cast roles that need to be filled, and it will make those announcements in the future.

The company is made new cast announcements every day from November 10 through November 16, and it already announced J. Michael Tatum as Rei Ryugazaki, Greg Ayres as Nagisa Hazuki, Johnny Yong Bosch as Makoto Tachibana, Todd Haberkorn as Haru, Vic Mignogna as Rin, Jerry Jewell as Momotaro Mikoshiba, and Josh Grelle as Aiichiro Nitori.

Free! Eternal Summer is the second season of Kyoto Animation’s Free - Iwatobi Swim Club anime. Crunchyroll currently holds the home video rights for the first season, and Funimation stated last month that it has approached Crunchyroll about a collaboration to make an English dub of the anime’s first season and distribute it on home video. At the time, Funimation said that Crunchyroll had yet to reply to their inquiry.

The second season premiered on July 2, and both Funimation and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.

The season features the new character Sōsuke Yamazaki, one of Rin’s best friends from elementary school who understands him well. Yoshimasa Hosoya plays Sōsuke.

The official website for the Free! Eternal Summer anime announced in August that an unaired, special episode will be included on the seventh Blu-ray Disc and DVD volumes of the series, which is slated to ship in Japan on March 18, 2015.

Jerry Jewel as ADR Director? I’ve liked some of his previous work so I’m hoping this will work out. With Tatum as the scriptwriter there’s hope for that “purple prose” that ANN holds him in infamy for.

Solusod and JYB in the same dub? That’s approaching DBZ levels of overcasting lol.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Funi dub list consisting of mostly “the usual suspects”, as this one does.

Free! fans party as Makoto Tachibana celebrates his birthday

I don’t want to start a big discussion in this thread, but if you know anyone who has a big problem with Vic Mignogna being cast in Free! Eternal Summer, please refer them to this week’s Answerman column.

Justin Sevakis has a very good take on the issue. Thought-provoking and well-timed.

I was surprised by some of the wording in that article.

I have just about 0 interest in this show but I am sorely tempted to buy it just to spite the Vic haters. Maybe that’s their plan lol.

Episode to be included in 7th Japanese Blu-ray/DVD

The official website for the Free! Eternal Summer television anime began streaming a digest movie for the unaired episode that will be included in the seventh and last Japanese Blu-ray and DVD volume of the series. The video teases the “survival game” battle in the episode.
Nagisa: I know! Let’s try that together! That
ei & Makoto: Survival game (“sabage”)?
Haruka: A… mackerel (“saba”) game?
Rei & Makoto: No!
Momotarō: Everyone’s playing the survival game? We’ll join too!
Aiichiro: Samezuka vs. Iwatobi? It’s our fated showdown, huh?
Nagisa: It’s more fun if we shuffle the members, don’t you think? Right, Rei?
Rei: Certainly! Now let’s draw lots.
Rin: Let’s go, maggots!
Rin: You can’t run away!
Aiichiro: It’ll hit. It’ll hit!
Makoto: Hey, wait up!
Rei: I have pictures of Gō!
Momotarou: What?! I’m sorry!
Aiichiro: He fell for it!
Rei: Now! Checkmate!
Sōsuke: Get down, Nanase!
Rin: It’s an enemy! Rei!
Nagisa: I’m sorry, Rei.
Makoto: There’s no way out now.
Haruka: Fine. Come at me, bro.
The episode was announced last August, and the seventh Blu-ray and DVD volume will ship on March 18.

The first episode of the sequel series premiered in Japan in July, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Funimation licensed the series, and also streamed it. Discotek Media licensed the first season of the series and will offer it in English subtitles on DVD.
