I’m not much about legal issues. Do they first have to prove whether the allegations are true/false before they can continue with this suit? I mean, can you sue for defamation if the allegations are true? Or can you only sue if they’re false?
I wasn’t there, I don’t know if they’re true or not, but I’m really curious about how this all works.

Think this says it best. Looks like it has to be a false statement.
- Someone made a statement;
- The statement was published;
- The statement caused you injury;
- The statement was false; and
- The statement did not fall into a privileged category.
