Majestic Prince / Ginga Kikōtai Majestic Prince

Izuru is greatly distributed by what he saw, but before he can tell his teammates that the Wulgaru are humanoid and can speak, he’s put under a gag order by Suzukaze. Asagi is wondering why the enemy pulled back when they had a sure victory. The GDF looks all but destroyed. Komine just looks annoyed that he can’t order anyone to follow the enemy and keep fighting.

Team Rabbits did well for their first battle, but the poor kids are exhausted. Team Doberman also returned without causality. Suzukaze debriefs Izuru and he remains under the gag order, especially since he mentions the girl at the pool. Izuru is dismissed, but Suzukaze seems angry for some reason. She says that she needs to tell the Commander.

Meanwhile, the girl in question is with the Commander and they are looking at a recording of Prince Jiart and the girl translates what he said to Izuru. Apparently, Izuru is Jiart’s target and the girl says it’s unexpected, so now they need to tell Team Rabbits of the situation – at least some of it. She says that Team Rabbits has to be prepared, but she also says it’s cruel.

Izuru takes a long time to join his teammates and Kei goes to check on him. She finds him sitting dejectedly in the park and wonders what’s wrong. He doesn’t answer so she grabs him and demands an answer. Kei quickly calms down though and just sits next to him. Izuru glances away from her and through the water of the fountain, he sees the girl from the pool! She runs away and Izuru gives chase, followed by Kei. The girl’s bodyguard flips Izuru and runs with the girl. Izuru tries to follow again, but Kei is annoyed for some reason and turns back.

His teammates know something is wrong with Izuru, but he won’t tell them what it is. The battle went so badly for the GDF that they will have to abandon Ceres Base. There just isn’t enough personnel to man it anymore due to all the causalities. In fact, if the enemy strikes now, they haven’t got a chance. Team Rabbits find out that back on Earth, they’ve been labeled as heroes, but they don’t feel very heroic.

Team Rabbits is ordered to report to the Captain and they are surprised to find the Commander with her. He informs the team that their missions will be increasing and he also tells them that he’s decided to give them certain information at this time, but it can’t leave the room. He makes them watch the recording of the Jiart speaking to Izuru. They are slightly surprised that the enemy is humanoid and can speak, but the Commander assures them that they are not at all human.

Asagi brings up the fact that their AHSMB’s are similar to the enemies’ units and the Commander tells them that their units are based on enemy technology. That made them gasp! The commander said that they had received intel that the Wulgaru would attack and they also received the technology to defend themselves. However, the JURIA-SYSTEM is strictly human technology. Izuru asks how the intel reached Earth and the Commander says it was a Wulgaru defector. The girl then enters the room with her bodyguard! So they will all meet her after all. Good!

I’ve gotta say that I’m disappointed by the intro to this one. Geneon & Funimation got much better Angela songs for shows that they licensed

Tamaki gets all hyper over the girl’s bodyguard and this amuses the Wulgaru girl, although it confuses the poor bodyguard. She confirms that she gave the intel to Earth and that her name is Teoria. Her bodyguard is Daneel and has been with her since her time on Wulgaru. Tamaki is under the impression that they are going steady, but Teoria explains that Daneel is her servant – that should put Tamaki’s mind at ease! LOL

The Commander explains that Teoria is of the nobility on Wulgaru and that excites Suruga. Teoria goes on to tell them that she’s come to explain about the Wulgaru and the AHSMB units. Her race has been long lived, but now is dying. All attempts to extend their lives ended in failure. Their scientists manipulated genes and through experiments, created lifeforms that were sent out into the universe. They hoped that these lifeforms would adapt and evolve on other planets, thus saving their race.

The experiment was a success and now the Wulgaru are harvesting those genes to help save their lives. She’s going to tell them that humans were one of those experiments, isn’t she? She refers to the act of retrieving the genes as “Hunting” and confirms that humans were one of those experiments. However, there are some on Wulgaru that are against the Hunt. They think that the species that evolved on their own deserve to live and that they should not be annihilated for the sake of others. Her mother sent Teoria to Earth in order to warn them that they would be next and to give them the technology that would give them a chance to defend themselves.

The Commander then takes over the story. MJP was a project to develop humans for life in space, but with Teoria’s warnings, it became an organization to prepare for the upcoming war. Half devoted themselves to creating weapons and the other half raised the humans that could use those weapons. After many failures hey finally adapted the alien technology and created the JURIA-SYSTEM that would work with humans. This was just in time too, because the Wulgaru had already reached Jupiter. Teoria stayed and continued to consult with them. But not everyone knows this, so Team Rabbits should consider themselves special.

Teoria now plays the recording and tells the team what the Wulgaru said to Izuru. They take offense at being called “primitive creatures”! LOL Teoria tells them that Red 5’s pilot has been marked as a target and Suzukaze tells the team of the possibility that all of the AHSMB pilots have been marked as “superior prey” for their excellent genes. The Commander says that Earth suffered heavy losses in the Battle of Ceres, so now Team Rabbits will be playing an even greater role in the upcoming battles. The Commander tells them that they must be mentally prepared for whatever happens, hence this briefing.

An alarm goes off and the Commander leaves Suzukaze to deal with any questions. Asagi heard that there is a plan in place to expand the AHSMB team, but Suzukaze won’t answer him on how far the plan is progressing, nor will she tell them when they’ll be sent out again. Tamaki interrupts with a question for Daneel and asks him what he thinks of Earth girls. LOL But he doesn’t know how to answer her – only because they have been kept in seclusion.

Izuru asks Teoria if the Wulgaru know that she’s on Earth and she tells him that it’s likely. Izuru then asks about her mother and Teoria doesn’t know of her mother’s fate, but hopes that she is safe. Kei asks who the pilot was in the recording and against Daneel’s warning, tells them his name is Jiart. It’s noted that Teoria looks like him, but she brushes it off. From Daneel’s reaction, I bet she’s Jiart’s sister, isn’t she? And probably a princess!

Izuru tells Teoria that they have no memories of their pasts, but asks why he remembers her. She tells him that they were once close friends and that surprises Izuru. Before he can ask her more, Daneel steps in to say that she will not answer further on that subject. Teoria promises to have a talk with Izuru once she is allowed to tell him more and Izuru seems content with that, but for now, all she will discuss is the technology. Kei seems annoyed by Teoria and Izuru. Does she remember something too or is she just jealous?

Later, the team discusses the situation. It was a lot of information to take in all at one time. Asagi hopes that the other ASHMB teams will be ready in time. Kei thinks that their names of Team Rabbits is apt. She feels that they were nothing but experimental lab rabbits and the others find it hard to disagree, but Izuru doesn’t care what they are called as long as they don’t go down without a fight. He’s been dwelling on the fact that what the Wulgaru are doing is wrong – treating humans simply as genes for their own survival. Izuru is sure he can win against Jiart and wants to be a hero for Teoria – and Tamaki wants Daneel to be her boyfriend! LOL She has such a lofty goal. Again, Kei does not look happy at the mention of Teoria.

The next morning, Izuru has the team begin a training regimen and seems overly happy. Suzukaze receives a report that Izuru is doing well in adapting to the JURIA-SYSTEM and is exceeding the others in this. Tamaki is also doing well but Asagi’s and Kei’s reserved personalities may be hindering their own adaptation. In any case, Izuru and Tamaki are just too happy and it’s annoying the others.

Elsewhere, Jiart is bored again and Dolgana has summoned to attend the parisada. He decides to go, but he’s going to take his own sweet time to get there. The King is currently praising Dolgana and his top people for a “bountiful harvest” and a job well done. The talk turns to Izuru and Jiart soon arrives and says that he will tell them nothing of Izuru. That particular lamata is his and suggests that the others pick out their own. The King gives Jiart to do as he pleases, but hints are made that someone may steal his lamata. These Wulgaru are arrogant and greedy, if this is representative of the entire race, then perhaps they should be allowed to die out.

It is reported that this prey has intelligence and gives meaning to their existence. They call themselves “Earthlings” and Jiart suggests that they should call them that too. This stuns the others – they have never called the lamata anything else before. Jiart insists that it’s been a long time since they have found such wonderful lamata and should show them some respect. That seems to anger the others and Jiart just ignores them, wondering what the Earthlings will do next to entertain him. I am beginning to see qualities of the ancient Romans in the Wulgaru, especially in Jiart. Their empire fell too. Lastly, the Commander tells Teoria that a Wulgaru craft has been found on Mars. What does this mean?

I’m still trying to figure out what made the “decider” at Sentai go “I want that!” when he learned of this show. I wouldn’t say it is bad, but I wouldn’t say that it is exceptionally good either.

I’m still trying to figure out what made them decide to add it to the “hit series” in About Sentai section in their PRs (12 days after it premiered).
Series that usually get listed there either already have a dub, or are going to get dubbed.

Maybe they’re prescient (despite not picking up Psycho Pass) and know that it will be a hit? Perhaps if they keep telling us its a hit it will become one?

If this should get a dub then I’ll watch it, but I seriously doubt that my opinion of the show will be elevated from the solid “meh” that it is at currently. I have difficulty imagining anyone else thinking that this show is either truly outstanding or more outstanding than some of its contemporaries that have yet to be licensed. It doesn’t really seem like a show to list in the PR being a standout license. There are similar recent shows that would better fit the bill IMO, but then again, maybe Sentai is on to something here…?

Maybe the people who would cause this to be a hit are being quiet, but the folk talking about the show have the “meh” opinion about it. I know that for now, the show is interesting enough for me to keep watching it now, but nothing that would make me want to watch it a second time if it’s dubbed.

The dub itself wouldn’t inspire you to watch it again so you could hear the dub?

If it comes to VoD, maybe.

A Wulgaru capital ship has crashed on Mars and Team Rabbits is being sent to retrieve any data they can. But the ship is in a dangerous spot, hanging over a ravine, so they only have twenty-four hours to complete their mission and Daneel will go with them.

Once they get to the ship, it’s protected by enemy fighters, but they’re a little on the weak side. Between the storm and the gravity, they are all having problems. Izuru and Asagi get into the ship with Daneel and he guides them to the bridge. On the way, they learn more of the Wulgaru from Daneel. Once on the bridge, Daneel memorizes all the information available. However, the ship is beginning to deteriorate. Izuru and Asagi have to protect Daneel until he’s finished, but they don’t have much time.

A cave in occurs and the three are trapped on the bridge. The team is ordered to pull out, but that’s going to be a problem. A quick plan to use Suruga fails, but Tamaki helps and the plan works. The three are saved just as the ship falls into the ravine. That was close! All the units are retrieved by Godinion and the data is reported as safe. However, there is one more problem.

Tamaki’s unit is in trouble and is about to go critical and Tamaki is trapped inside! It takes a while, but they finally get Tamaki out and she seems okay. I think she appreciates her maintenance team a little more now! Suzukaze reports to Gato that they have the data and he tells her to analyze it quickly. He seems to be looking for the Wulgaru gate.

It’s a day off, but the girls are working just as hard at being “stars”. And it’s all publicity for the GDF. But the guys don’t have it much better. LOL I really feel sorry for the girls being at the mercy of Miss Peko though. Poor things! At least Tamaki seems to be having fun, but Kei is just too shy for this kind of spotlight.

Anna has dragged Asagi on a shopping expedition, but I think she’s having a little trouble acting like a grown up lady. LOL Izuru has finished his manga, but it doesn’t look like there’s anyone around to share it with. And Suruga – well, I wonder what he’s waiting for.

The girls are exhausted, but had a good day and I think they’ve bonded a bit as well. Asagi actually enjoyed his day with Anna (and her little gift) and Izuru found someone to read his manga, but I don’t think his readers liked it much. And I’m still not sure what Suruga was doing. But the Rose Eatery sure is popular!

Considering that this is one show I’ll push back when I’m playing catch up… I know if this is dubbed, I will skip it. Might not be able to watch the whole thing anyway now.

I still think that I will wait for the dub on this one. I saw the new ANN review for eps 7 - 12 where their reviewer recommends it but doesn’t really give a compelling reason as to why.

It definitely sounds like a type of show that I would find to be “poor to meh” in the sub but “meh to exceptional” in the dub. As I am watching Horizon I am once again reminded that Stephen Foster has in his possession the (classical) “philosopher’s stone” as he can turn the worst shows into gold. As such, I doubt that, no matter how “meh” I may find this show to be, I won’t enjoy it.

I don’t like that I keep hearing that this show has episodes where there is nothing relevant going on, that the characters are “taking a break”. I’d prefer it if more shows took the Titan approach and didn’t have, at least as far as I’ve seen in Titan, those sort of episodes. I like it when the shows keep their comic relief/fanservice stuff in the “main narrative” and keep it reasonable, that is to say, not like Needless.
