The operation goes awry when the fleets arrive at the gate area. Izuru is feeling useless and I laughed to see that Miss Peko had him on a leash so he wouldn’t run off into battle.
The original plan called for Team Rabbits to mark the gate for the Earth forces to target, without the Wulgaru noticing them. I really don’t see how they wouldn’t have been noticed. And of course, once the gate is marked successfully, the Wulgaru will see them anyway.
Unfortunately, just as Team Rabbits approaches the gate, a Wulgaru fleet comes through, and the team is caught. A battle begins and the team has to hold it together and complete their mission. The Earth fleets move in to help, but a few lag behind and I wonder what game they’re playing.
Lutiel goes after Asagi and Tamaki recognizes it as the unit that took out Patrick. Blinded by revenge, Tamaki goes after her against Asagi’s orders. I really didn’t think Tamaki had it in her, but you go girl! Nice too that Jiart decides to stay out of the fight until Izuru shows up. I think he’s in for a surprise. Dolgana’s forces hold back to protect the gate as Lutiel’s forces fall apart.
The Straggle Laser is almost ready, but it still needs its target and the gate remains unmarked. Asagi is almost there, but still has a ways to go. It was cool to see the Godinion split up like that to support Suruga. Lutiel continues to play with Tamaki as her forces try to protect her. I thought we were going to lose Tamaki there for a second, but Suruga saves her and turns the tables. However, Lutiel is ordered back to help defend the gate.
Asagi is almost at the gate, but there is still plenty of enemy to get through and suddenly Lutiel is in front of him, blocking his way. Since Tamaki was just fighting this unit, Asagi wonders if Tamaki is okay. Stay focused Asagi! He manages to dodge Lutiel’s attack and Tamaki shows up to attack Lutiel again. Ange and Tamaki keep Lutiel occupied while Asagi continues on to the gate. Lutiel ignores them and goes after Asagi, but Suruga fires at her as well. With their combined efforts, Lutiel is destroyed. Yay! But the mission isn’t over yet.
The team heads for the gate once again, as Lutiel’s forces join Dolgana’s to protect it. The Straggle Laser is ready to fire and Simon is already ordering that it be linked to Asagi’s target marker. Asagi is almost there! The others are cheering him on and everyone’s hopes lie with him now. I have no fingernails left! LOL Asagi makes it to his target and fires the marker. Success! The marker sends out a signal and the Straggle Laser fires. Nuts! There seems to be a barrier protecting the gate and the plan to destroy it fails.
The confused forces regroup and Simon is informed that any energy based weapon won’t work against that barrier. But at least the marker is still in place, so maybe they still have a chance to somehow destroy the gate. I suppose they will now have to figure out a way to take down that barrier as the Straggle Laser recharges. Unfortunately, Asagi, Tamaki, and Ange are completely surrounded by the Wulgaru now. I know that Izuru is going to end up fighting. I think he’s the only one that will be able to do anything at this point.

The battle over the gate continues. Neither side is giving way, but it looks like the Wulgaru are gaining ground. With Team Rabbits surrounded, some of the Earth forces have begun to pull back. Jiart has joined the fight in the hopes that Izuru will make an appearance. But Miss Peko still has Izuru on a leash. Dolgana has joined the fight as well. Team Rabbits isn’t doing well.
It’s time for Izuru to get out there and he finally convinces Suzukaze to let him go. He promises not to die, but Red 5 may end up killing him anyway. Jiart is pleased to see him and breaks off his attacks against Team Rabbits. They aren’t happy to see him, but he tells them that he’s the hero – “probably”. LOL Even with Izuru fighting Jiart, and Ange up against Dolgana, the surrounding battle intensifies. And Earth is losing. The Straggle Laser is still charging, but what can it do against that barrier?
Doberman joins the fray with the new units and the Wulgaru pull back. The fleet advances and targets the gate. But again, the barrier prevents any damage. Teoria launches her unit and orders the Wulgaru to retreat. Like they’re going to listen to a traitor! Jiart tries to go after Teoria and Izuru swears to protect her. Love this music! The gate control is finally destroyed and the Straggle Laser fires. But the enemy has fired at the Laser and it’s destroyed!
There’s no way to destroy the gate now, or is there? Simon is going to ram Star Rose into the gate! Red 5 has completely awakened now, but can Izuru defeat Jiart without losing his mind? This is so intense!

Simon will ram Star Rose into the gate as the fleets, along with Teoria and Daneel defend it from the Wulgaru. Jiart is told to retreat, but he’s having too much fun with Red 5. Izuru looks to be losing it too. All of the Team Rabbits members are feeling the stress – not only to their units, but to themselves as well.
As Izuru fights Jiart, Jiart feels fear for the first time in his life and is fascinated by it. Izuru is trying to hold on to his sanity, but his instincts seem to be taking over. He ignores the order to pull back and wants to keep fighting. His body is just moving on its own now. If this keeps up, he won’t survive. Asagi sends Kei to go and get Izuru.
Kei approaches Izuru and tries to talk to him, but he doesn’t seem to hear her. He just wants to fight. Asagi and the others add their voices to Kei’s. It seems insulting Izuru is the only way to reach him. Suddenly, Izuru is himself again. Red 5 complies with the order to retreat now, but Jiart doesn’t want to let his prey go, and blocks his way. Izuru just can’t get away from Jiart, no matter which way he goes, so he’s back to fighting again. Kei gets between them and Jiart attacks her, damaging her unit. That just puts Izuru right back in a fighting mood.
Star Rose is almost to the gate, as the surrounding skirmishes continue. The rest of Team Rabbits go to get Izuru and Kei, and try to pull them back, but Izuru tells them to take care of Kei and he goes after Jiart again. Izuru doesn’t want to die and is determined to survive for his friends. He wants to protect everyone and be the hero. Red 5 transforms again and this time, Izuru is in charge! Unfortunately, Jiart transforms into his ultimate form as well. It seems that the entire war has boiled down to this one intense fight.
With Start Rose so close to the gate, Amane orders everyone to retreat. That includes Team Rabbits, but Izuru continues his fight with Jiart. Teoria is another stubborn one. She will stay with Start Rose and Daneel with stay with her. Star Rose will hit the gate in one minute, and Dolgana is still determined to stop it. Red 5 is ignoring the continuous order to retreat. Simon is told to abandon ship, but Dolgana and his men come to stop the collision at all costs. Ange comes to lend a hand, in his usual manner.
Lumes now orders all the Wulgaru armies to retreat. Dolgana has been damaged and his men pull him back. Star Rose hits the gate and it explodes, taking everything in the surrounding area with it. The gate begins to collapse and the operation is determined a success. However, the price may have been too high. It looks like Simon, Teoria, and Daneel have been lost. The Red 5 unit took a lot of damage and Izuru is unconscious. But Jiart is still after him, even though he is damaged as well.
Izuru wakes at the last possible moment, and is able to defend himself from Jiart’s latest attack. Jiart just won’t give up, but at least Izuru can meet him blow for blow. He’s still determined to survive and return to his friends, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Izuru gives Jiart one final punch, and their units explode just as the gate collapses.
Even with the gate gone, the Wulgaru will find a way to survive – this isn’t over yet! The Godinion detects heat signatures and Teoria and Daneel appear. I’m happy to see that they are alive! And they have Simon with them! However, Simon wanted to die and feels now that he’s lost everything, but Teoria tells him that a new hero has been born, and Simon nods.
Team Rabbits is out there looking for Izuru and the Godinion is trying to find some trace of Red 5, while everyone holds their breath and watches. Finally, Red 5 is detected and everyone cheers. Team Rabbits race to retrieve their comrade. By some miracle, Izuru is still alive and manages a smile when he sees his friends around him. What a wonderful end to the show! But there is still so much more of the story to tell. I hope it gets another season. The story is just too good to end it here.

Watching episode 13 I kept thinking you could make a great parody commercial out of it.

So I can check out if Sentai’s “gundam” is better than actual gundam. May 30th is still a long ways away though so maybe I’ll be able to squeeze the Gundam 00 dub in between then and now, for comparison’s sake. Surprisingly I have only seen that show subbed (the way I’ve ended up watching virtually every mecha show, come to think).
Episodes 1-12 (Dub) are live at ANO
Just saw this news blurb on Crunchy where the implication is that fans have just “reverse engineered” the dub cast of this based on a Sentai dub trailer.
I’m not sure why Crunchyroll is treating this like a “WikiLeaks” thing, or why anyone is supposedly using the dub trailer to figure out voices when the actual dub is out.

I’m still not sure how to take this show. Episode One was summed up by that “can’t tell if serious or not” meme IMO.
