That is why disc 7 of the Platinum edition was harder to find ( I believe people that had the original singles or set were buying just that disc for just for that ) and probably why it’s more expensive right now . There is a like new copy on eBay for $39.99 . It’s hilarious , but if I bought it I’d want to track down the other six singles and I’m not going into that at the moment expensive rabbit hole .
The original singles had a few Easter eggs that really did not add to much ,but I believe that was the only one on the Platinum singles .

Netflix subtitles translate Kaworu’s proclamation to Shinji as ‘I like you’ compared to ADV’s ‘I love you’
My mostly joking take after a little thought is they should have translated the Japanese script to Spanish then translated the Spanish script to English . Then used that for the English script .
From the sound of what went on with the Italian dub and what I’ve been hearing about the Spanish dub being really good . It seems like Khara let other countries translations have a lot more freedom when dubbing .
I think so many vocal people are so focus on if it should be love or like it’s making the other issues fade into the background .
I did rewatch a few more episodes of the new dub . The VA’s almost all sound ok . Since at this point I don’t see them putting up the old dub . My two thoughts are if possible Pen Pen’s VA should have voiced a certain redhead and I wish the script was more adjusted to Modern English speaking .
Do you think that would have helped the dub be more accepted, or just personal preference?
Also it is fairly humorous that several side characters are voiced by people fairly prominent in the dubbing world. It’s kinda like they wanted to be attached to Eva somehow, but didn’t want the burden of being compared to the ADV voices
The new dub changed one of Shinji’s most iconic lines from “I mustn’t run away.” to “Don’t run away now.”
The new dub is more accurate to the Japanese script, but in comparison to what sounds better in the context, enough said…
I think it would be personal preference . Most of the other VA’s have other work in voice acting so I can go check out those and better gauge them . With her I can’t . Like I’m curious if is she good or not . I can’t tell from just this .
Though to be honest my personal preference would have been the rebuild cast . Though I don’t think they would have fixed the issue with the flow .
I think that after listening to the VA’s that have other stuff they’ve done in those . I think it’s basically they needed someone else to come along and say this does not sound right in English . Here say it this way it holds the same meaning ,but it will flow better . Though I will say reading it is easier to take then hearing it .

Evangelion’s original English scriptwriter has some harsh words for people complaining about translation choices, but also a pretty good point.
That made me laugh way harder than it should have.
People just can’t be satisfied anymore, can they? I, for one, don’t mind the Like / Love translation difference because it still feels “romantic” (really good job on Clifford Chapin btw).
