Netflix News

I sometimes wonder why Netflix never lets us in on the anime NEW RELEASES during the monthly headlines.

Anyway good to see new to Neflix episodes moving along nicely. This explains why Nicktoons yanked it off when they did.

###2015 Netflix Original Series Premiere Date’s & Marco Polo Season 2 Announced

Netflix has announced a new ten-episode Season 2 order in the adventures of “Marco Polo” and upcoming premiere dates for some of its new original series, including “Marvel’s Dardevil,” which also released a new standard poster and motion poster, both of which you can check out below!

Creator John Fusco’s tale of Marco Polo’s journey will continue for 10 all-new episodes as Marco navigates Kublai Khan’s world of greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry. Fusco serves as executive producer along with Dan Minahan. Academy-Award-nominated directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon Tiki) also serve as executive producers.

“Marco Polo” is produced by The Weinstein Company, starring Lorenzo Richelmy as Marco and featuring Benedict Wong, Joan Chen, Zhu Zhu, Chin Han, Olivia Cheng, Tom Wu, Remy Hii, Uli Latukefu, Mahesh Jadu, Claudia Kim and Rick Yune.

Netflix also announced upcoming premiere dates for the following new original series, including “Marvel’s Daredevil.” Here’s the full list, all of which will be available globally upon release in all territories where Netflix is available:

“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” – Friday, March 6, 2015

From creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, this half-hour single-camera comedy series stars Ellie Kemper as Kimmy, who escapes a doomsday cult and decides to reclaim her life and start over in New York City. Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers, and a couple of way-past-due library books, Kimmy’s ready to take on a world she didn’t even think existed anymore. Wide-eyed but resilient, nothing is going to stand in her way. The 13-episode series, produced by Universal Television, also stars Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane and more. Fey and Carlock serve as executive producers, along with David Miner and Jeff Richmond.

“Bloodline” – Friday, March 20, 2015

When the eldest brother and black sheep of the Rayburn family returns home, he exposes the emotional demons that lie at the core of the family, threatening to tear them apart. With a stellar cast headlined by Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz, Jacinda Barrett, Jamie McShane, Enrique Murciano, Sissy Spacek, and Sam Shepard, the 13-episode series is from executive producers Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler (“Damages”), and produced by Sony Pictures Television.

“Grace and Frankie” – Friday, May 8, 2015

In this irreverent and touching series, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin star as Grace and Frankie, a pair of frenemies whose lives are turned upside down – and permanently intertwined – when their husbands leave them for each other. Together, they must face starting over in their 70s in a 21st century world. The series also stars Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Brooklyn Decker, Ethan Embry, June Diane Raphael and Baron Vaughn. Created by Marta Kauffman (“Friends”) and Howard J. Morris (“Home Improvement”), the 13-episode series is produced by Skydance Productions and executive producers Kauffman, Morris, Fonda, Tomlin, Paula Weinstein, David Ellison, David Goldberg and Marcy Ross.

“The Fall” – January 16th, 2015

In addition, they’ve also released a teaser for Season 2 (coming January 16) of “The Fall,” starring Gillian Anderson (“The X-Files”) and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), which you can also see below!

Netflix Reportedly Producing Zelda Television Series

A television series based on The Legend of Zelda is reportedly in the works at Netflix.

The Wall Street Journal has heard from a “person familiar with the matter” that the alleged series will be a full-blown live-action production that aims to be like a family-friendly version of Game of Thrones.

As one would expect, the popular streaming service is working closely with Nintendo in the show’s production. After all, this is one of the Big N’s most prized and recognizable franchises.

Neither Netflix nor Nintendo have commented on the matter, so we’ll have to treat this as rumor for the time being.

Netflix Developing ‘Left Shark’ Anime Series
February 12, 2015

LOS GATOS, CA – After a string of successful original productions such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, as well as the success of the exclusively licensed Sidonia no Kishi anime, Netflix is following up its recent announcement of an official launch in Japan this fall with news that it is producing an original anime series based on the popular “left shark” incident from Katy Perry’s widely discussed halftime show at Superbowl XLIX.

According to the production team, Hidari no Sharku “will focus on two roommate sharks who perform at various events and shows; while one shark is professional and successful, the other is a klutz who always manages to get into trouble and create comedic situations for the duo.” Netflix is reportedly also in contact with Sunrise and Bandai Namco to possibly feature Shark cameos in their respective idol franchises Love Live and The Idolm@ster.

Additionally, Netflix already uploaded the first episode of the new show to their site, but it was quickly removed 15 minutes later. But it was totally up there, we swear.

Netflix To Launch 13 Episodes of ‘Dragons: Race to the Edge’ in June

Providing a narrative bridge between DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon and its sequel, DreamWorks Dragons first premiered on Cartoon Network in 2012 and launched a second season in 2013. The show’s move to Netflix was announced in 2014.

“We are happy to be adding Dragons to our growing slate of original series for kids,” Netflix vp of original content Cindy Holland said at the time. “This is one of DreamWorks Animation’s most beloved set of characters and we know that kids and families will be enjoying them for years to come.”

All 13 episodes of DreamWorks Dragons: Race to the Edge will premiere worldwide on Netflix on June 26.

‘Full House’ revived on Netflix as 13-episode series ‘Fuller House’

Netflix has announced that they will be clearing up an earlier rumor that a Full House reboot would be joining the streaming service.

John Stamos announced on Kimmel that Netflix has ordered a 13 episode first season, that is currently set to launch in 2016.

While many familiar faces are set to return with the series, rumors are that Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin and the Olsen twins are currently still in progress.

Considering the show hasn’t aired in over 20 years (a 1995 abrupt finale took the show off the air) it seems strange that now suddenly marks a good time to relaunch what was arguably a distant memory. It doesn’t necessarily feel like a nostalgic fit for the older crowd, and the younger generations are likely completely unfamiliar with the original.

The new show focuses on the recently widowed D.J., a mother of two boys with a third child on the way. She gets help from her younger sis, Stef, and best friend, single mom Kimmy, who both — you guessed it — move in to help Deej in her time of need.

Netflix Orders ‘Green Eggs and Ham’

Netflix has placed an order for 13 episodes of a new series inspired by Dr. Seuss’ classic Green Eggs and Ham. The toon will focus on the adventures of standoffish inventor Guy and plucky Sam-I-Am as they set off on a cross-country trip.

Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production, A Stern Talking To and Gulfstream Television are producing in association with Warner Bros. Animation. DeGeneres will exec produce with Jared Stern, Jeff Kleeman, Mike Karz and David Dobkin.

Netflix Re-Ups ‘BoJack Horseman’

Netflix will be launching a new 12-episode season of its darkly hilarious animated adult comedy series BoJack Horseman, available exclusively through the streaming service on Friday, July 17 at 12:01 a.m. PST in all territories where available.

Will Arnett once again stars as the voice of BoJack, a ‘90s sitcom star struggling to find his way through a quagmire of self-loathing, whisky and failed relationships. Now starring in his dream project — a biopic about Secretariat — but humbled by the events of Season 1, BoJack attempts to use his professional second chance as a springboard to a better self. But, new challenges on set and in his personal life as well as the demons of his past prove major obstacles to achieving a new and improved BoJack.

With Arnett, the series features the voices of Aaron Paul as Todd Chavez, Amy Sedaris as Princess Carolyn, Alison Brie as Diane Nguyen and Paul F. Tompkins as Mr. Peanutbutter — with many surprise guests set for Season 2. BoJack Horseman was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg and designed by graphic artist Lisa Hanawalt. The show is produced by The Tornante Company, with animation by ShadowMachine.

Netflix Premieres 4 Original Animated Series

Netflix has announced it will premiere four original animated shows: Kulipari: An Army of Frogs, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane, Cirque du Soleil – Luna Petunia and Puffin Rock.

Each show will launch all of its episodes at the same time around the world, for all Netflix subscribers to watch.

Here’s how the network described the shows:

Cirque du Soleil – Luna Petunia (Fall 2016). From Saban Brands and Cirque du Soleil Média comes Luna Petunia, a new preschool series. Inspired by Cirque du Soleil’s unique brand of innovation and creativity, the animated series will chronicle the adventures of Luna Petunia, a girl who lives in our world but plays in a dreamland where she learns how to make the impossible possible. The first season of 11 episodes will premiere worldwide exclusively on Netflix, kicking off a franchise roll-out that will include a consumer products line, interactive digital content and a potential live tour.

Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane (2016). From 41 Entertainment, Executive Producer Avi Arad (Arad Animation) and with animation from ARC Productions comes a new kids series based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ collection of stories about his iconic characters, Tarzan and Jane. In this modern-day remake, 16-year-old Tarzan returns from the African jungle to a London boarding school where he is a fish out of water and challenges conformity. There he meets Jane, Tarzan’s ultimate partner, who helps him solve environmental injustice, crimes and mysteries. The eight-episode season will premiere worldwide exclusively on Netflix during the second half of 2016.

Kulipari: An Army of Frogs (2016). Kulipari: An Army of Frogs is based on a trilogy of books created by American football star, Trevor Pryce, and is inspired by his childhood fear of frogs. A story about bravery and heroism, this animated series targets grade-school boys and follows poisonous frogs, scorpions and spiders who must go to war to ensure their power — and the survival of their entire world. The story of Kulipari inspires belief in oneself, one’s abilities, and the power of true friendship — even when odds are stacked against you. The 13-episode season, produced by Splash Entertainment and Outlook Company, will premiere worldwide exclusively on Netflix in 2016.

Puffin Rock (Sept. 1, 2015). A new animated preschool series, Puffin Rock is set on a beautiful island off the coast of Ireland. Oona is a charismatic and plucky young puffling, who along with her ever-curious little brother Baba, explores the diverse array of sea, sky, land and underground creatures. The series introduces a combination of preschool themes and soft natural history learnings to young viewers. Acclaimed actor Chris O’Dowd narrates the English language version, with a diverse group of international talent narrating in other languages across the globe. Penguin Random House Children’s, Dog Ears, and twice-Oscar-nominated animation studio Cartoon Saloon partnered on the 13-episode season, which will premiere exclusively on Netflix in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Benelux, France and Germany this September, and in all other Netflix markets at a later date.

In addition to the new original titles, Netflix is also adding three new first-run exclusive series for kids to enjoy. The award-winning Russian phenomenon, Masha and the Bear, will premiere this August in the United States. This month, Canadian animation company Nelvana Studios introduces The Day My Butt Went Psycho to grade-school kids in the U.S., U.K. and Mexico. And Elias, the little rescue boat from the popular Norwegian preschool series of the same name, is now streaming exclusively on Netflix in U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand.
