HOUSTON, September 10, 2012 — The wildest samurai adventure ever made is back, this time in glorious and gruesome high-def detail! Sentai Filmworks’ is pleased to announce their latest acquisition, the classic anime masterpiece: Ninja Scroll!. Directed and with a screenplay by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Demon City Shinjuku) the movie that’s been called a “gateway drug to anime” features character designs by Yutaka Minowa (Devil May Cry, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) and music by Kaoru Wada (Inuyasha, Gilgamesh). The anime that set the standard will be available for the first time ever on Blu-Ray, featuring an all-new, high-definition transfer straight from the source!

Jubei Kibagami has always been the master dealer of death, but in rescuing a ninja woman from a monster he sets loose a chain of events that puts death in his own veins and sends them on a nightmarish odyssey through a surreal and devil infested ancient Japan. How do demonic possessions, an annihilated village and a man Jubei thought safely buried in his past all connect? If Jubei can’t piece the blood-soaked clues together, his only consolation will be that he won’t live to regret it for very long! Prepare your mind and steel your gut for the insanely gore-packed orgy of violence that still stands alone and unchallenged as the ultimate anime action feature: the epic milestone in animation that is the legendary NINJA SCROLL.

I really have to buy this. I’ve somehow managed to avoid buying this title over the years, even though I’m a huge Yoshiaki Kawajiri fan. Gotta gotta gotta get that Blu-Ray

I bought this last week and am waiting for it to arrive. I’m expecting it to be a good movie.

Madhouse CEO Hiroyuki Okada posted an update about the anime studio’s planned Ninja Scroll project on Friday. Okada announced that director Yoshiaki Kawajiri finished a script in May 2013 for a feature film that includes the Ninja Scroll Burst “3-episode short animation.”

Madhouse and Kawajiri agreed on a revised script, and the film project received the tentative title Ninja Scroll Kocho. Kawajiri completed storyboards in December and is currently drawing key animation.

Okada revealed that “there are some candidates for financial supporters but no one in Japan has been found yet.” He explained that the reason may be that while Ninja Scroll was popular in the United States, the anime was “not a big hit in Japan.”

Part of the scripts and storyboards for Ninja Scroll Kocho will debut at Tokyo’s Asagaya Madhouse shop in March. The world premiere of the Ninja Scroll Burst “full-short films” will also be held in the shop.

A teaser trailer for Ninja Scroll Burst began streaming in July 2012:

Another one of those “popular in America, but all but bombed in Japan” anime.

I bought Sentai’s bluray of this but I still haven’t gotten around to watching it…

That’s a nice slipcover. There should be a way for those that bought the first BD printing to get it. Maybe post all the pics on the website and let us make it.

Yay! Craft time’s fun.

Now we need a BD of NInja Resurrection. That’s right, I enjoyed it, no apologies.

You’re not the only one!
I’d definitely double dip on that, like I did for Ninja Scroll.
