Never ever use the same plot point more than once unless you throw something new into the mix and a new character doesn’t count, you still have the “Who’s the traitor” mindset and we just went through that in S1. It’s poor writing, because you can’t think up anything new to throw at the group but the same old, Same old? So what happens if another Brave after this one shows up?
It’s Emilio Estevez & Charlie Sheen from Men at Work.
The “Who is The Mole?” theme is part of the show’s premise. Since the show presented “take 2” of that differently (no longer a “locked room” mystery), did advance the rest of the story and because the show didn’t get to finish, I’m willing to “put an asterisk” next to that.
I didn’t mind the ending but it does seem a bit uncool to have left us with a teasing ending if there’s not going to be a Season 2. I’d like to believe that they weren’t doing the old “leave you hanging to sell the manga” trick as, going by the #s I’ve seen, it was pretty clear that the show wasn’t moving the source material.
I hate source material spoilers (even hints of it) so I was rather annoyed when the final episode review was posted.
However, for those that didn’t read it, I’ll post an interesting little tidbit from it.

At this point I will admit that with no further mystery left to untangle, I did look up spoilers between these last two episodes. Since I now have knowledge of what happens later on, I can say that, in hindsight, this ending is nowhere near as bad as it originally seems. If I didn’t know about events going forward, I wouldn’t like it. Nachetanya’s motivations are underexplained, and Rolonia’s existence seems like an incredibly cheap twist. Without spoiling anything, I can only assure you that it’s going somewhere better in the grand scheme of things. However, if this is all the animated Rokka that we ever get, I can’t blame people for remaining dissatisfied with this ending.
Rokka’s true narrative gimmick is that it establishes rote setups only to subvert the heck out of them in dramatic fashion. It does this with genre, too. This first season looked like it was going to be an action-adventure, only to become a locked room mystery instead. The next season (if we ever get it) will mess with our expectations for a second mystery. Without getting too specific, further events also made me eat my words regarding my criticisms of the story thus far. Some of the things that seemed iffy are in fact intentional, fully addressed by the story later on. Light novel author Ishio Yamagata is a talented weaver of plots on both a textual and metatextual level. Despite everything that this ending may suggest, Rokka is not a one-trick pony.
I can only go by what I’ve seen. That’s all well and good that that’s what the show is about, but It still feels like a cheap cop out on the ending especially since I haven’t read the LN or the manga and the show should stand on its own merits.

Any hope of me deciding to actually buy this series eventually just got flushed.
maybe they saw people were more interested in the RE and no one was ponying up ( see what I did here…
) for their “special” CE.
can’t have that…no, no, no…we (japan) know what u (muricans) want
can’t let you have a choice: that’s just…undemocratic…
Wow this just took a sharp turn. What’re you gonna do?
Well at least Aniplex has gotten a clue, as far as regular editions are concerned. Pony Canyon just doesn’t get the market. The only Pony Canyon title I might buy is Sound! Euphonium, depends on how much and what’s offered wth it. A reasonably priced regular edition and it would be an insta-buy.
Yep.
If Pony Canyon’s mission is anything but to make all the other NA distributors look better by comparison then they’re failing.
I’m a bit concerned that a company this “tone deaf” has Sound! Euphonium lol.
You can’t succeed by antagonizing the majority of your market. Pony Canyon has said that they don’t intend to ever serve the Regular Edition market, only the Collectors. This was their first tentative step down from that unfortunate position.
I have to wonder just precisely where do they think that Collectors come from?
If they have tainted their brand in the minds of the majority of the Anime market, then how likely is it that when a fan comes into some extra money they will spend it with Pony Canyon and not Sentai, Funimation, NISA or even Aniplex?
No, they need to apologize - big time - publicly to the market, make amends by actually serving the fans in a reasonable fashion.
People worry about loosing face, Eastern or Western each in it’s own way does this, here we have a prime example of it happening in what appears to be an intentional fashion.

To put it into more perspective:
Aniplex is releasing the Fate Stay Night: UBW BD edition 2 for 179.98 13.5 episodes (I’m counting the included OVA)
Averages out to around $13.33 / episode, Compared to Pony Canyon releases which cost $71.98 for 4 episodes which average about $18.00 / episode.

Ponycan USA Comments on Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers’ Standard Blu-ray/DVD Cancellation

From the brusk tone of that reply to ANN it’s obvious that the criticism of Pony Canyon’s release policies has gotten under their skin.

Translation: We’re delusional. We think that fans will pay a premium for average shows just because we throw some extra stuff in it. We are blind to what our closest competition, Aniplex is doing, even though they have as good extras as we do but are charging, on average, less per episode.
Maybe it’s time for them to see the writing on the wall and let another NA distributor handle this title. Even legendarily tone-deaf Aniplex of America “saw the light” and allowed titles to be handled by other, dare I say more competent, NA distributors.
The basic problem is that unlike Aniplex, Pony Canyon is only able to get an occasional tier 1 title, they are stuck with mostly tier 2 or lesser and the occasional “What went wrong? / Nande ya nen?” title like Rokka appears to be.
Their whole North American venture is an experiment to see if they could make something more monetarily, out of the titles they can get, than if they just licensed them to Sentai / Funimation / NISA. Sadly, I think we just have to wait until someone in Japan says “Enough”.
