Plot Summary: (TAN) The Japanese call them hikikomori - people who’ve become so socially withdrawn that they refuse to leave their homes for weeks and even months at a time. Sasami Tsukuyomi has been attempting to pass her first year of high school despite being a shut in. Fortunately, her older brother Kamiomi happens to be a teacher at the school she is supposed to attend. With the use of the “Brother Surveillance Tool” she can view the outside world via her computer. Theoretically it should be helping her adjust to interfacing with people again… Instead, it’s giving her an up close and personal view of the very odd Yagami sisters who have various types of “interest” in Kamiomi. It looks like Sasami will have to take off her pajamas and go out into the “real” world to set things straight in Sasami-san@Ganabaranai!

Why no pics of the guy, I wonder?

I have no idea why they’re keeping him a secret.
His face is even obscured in the PV with a book bag.

As it’s TBS series, I expect Sentai will probably pick this up for this coming Winter season.
So I decided to make a thread on it since I actually want to see it.
I would guess that’d depend if TBS themselves will actually own/have the international licensing rights. There’s been a couple of recent shows were TBS Animation were a part of it, but Funi ended up grabbing them.

Haganai and Aria Scarlett Ammo being two of those…

Haganai and Aria Scarlett Ammo being two of those…
Both of which are over a year ago, and Haganai was part of the FUNico thing (Aria was the season before FUNico).

That happened before Sentai started kicking it up in the simulcast department.

After the Fall 2011 season (of which Haganai was in) Sentai has picked up almost every TBS series and simulcasted most of them.
Sankarea, Amagami SS+, Baby, Please Kill Me! & Acchi Kocchi are the only ones I can think of that they didn’t get after that point.

Amagami SS+ is almost a guarentee eventually, since they picked up the first season.
FUNi got Sankarea.
And the other 2 went unlicensed.

So the way it looks to me, the chance that Sentai will grab it is actually pretty large.

Wow, now this series could get very interesting. I have a friend who used to be a hikikomori, and really if it wasn’t for getting groceries and work I’m not sure she’d even be out and about on a weekly basis (except for summer, as she loves taking random wandering walks in warm weather, and her definition of warm weather is nearly enough to make me sweat just thinking about). I’ll admit, if it wasn’t for getting groceries, having a non work at home job, and returning things in the mail (Gamefly and Netflix) I’m not sure I’d be out and about as often as once a month myself, not so much because I dislike people, but because I have so many interesting things to do at home.

Madoka Magica/Bakemonogatari’s Shinbo directs romantic comedy premiering on Thursday

The TBS station’s official website for the Sasami-san@Ganbaranai television anime series began streaming the third promotional video on Wednesday. The video features the opening theme song “Alteration” by ZAQ.

The story follows a hikikomori (shut-in) named Sasami Tsukuyomi (voiced by Kana Asumi) who is unmotivated about even changing clothes or eating. Her brother Kamiomi (Houchu Ohtsuka) takes care of her, even though she despises his slave-like nature. Sasami spends her days viewing the outside world via a “Brother Surveillance Tool” on her computer. In the outside world, the three beautiful Yagami sisters (played by Chiwa Saito, Kana Hanazawa, and Ai Nonaka) and Sasami’s brother are in the middle of relationships worthy of a romantic comedy.

Akiyuki Shinbo is teaming up again with his Madoka Magica and Bakemonogatari studio SHAFT to make the television anime. Katsuhiko Takayama (And Yet the Town Moves, Love, Election & Chocolate) is in charge of the scripts, and Hiroki Harada (Romeo × Juliet, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal) is designing the characters based on Hidari’s original novel illustrations.

The series will premiere on the TBS and BS-TBS channels in Japan on Thursday.

Sentai Filmworks announced that it licensed this anime for North America, and The Anime Network then confirmed that it will stream the series on Fridays starting on January 18 at 11:30 a.m. EST.
